Re: [videoblogging] Re: quoting, tagging and smallest narrative elements

2006-01-08 Thread Michael Meiser

I like the idea of allowing users to annotate videos with the quote tool... Think flickr's annotation tool, but ours is time based.  Someone makes an edit and then enters a comment. Then on the video page it appears down below the video with the other comments not on the video like flickr does with photos. So, the user can not only read the annotation... but click on a link and watch the annotation... Right there in the page.  Oh, and perhaps they could tag the annotation too. Pretty cool. It's all very conversational.Perhaps somehow we can make it so people can add it to their blogs... with a link or something. Or perhaps a _javascript_ thingy they drop in their vlog post... perhaps a link thingy that they enable like feedburner's feedflare that shows up in the RSS... it's all very doable.So... why would people use this? In a word, panels, speaches, conferences You can directly reference a portion of a video and comment on it. Panels, speaches, and conferences rock.Well, peace,-MikeOn Jan 6, 2006, at 9:17 AM, Devlon wrote: The quoting at Mefeedia was a bit clunky.  It was too slow to scan to the quoted pieces. On 1/6/06, duncan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On 1/6/06, Enric [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Well, tagging segments of video that can next be linked, aggregated and re-connected, etc. is a project I've been conceptualizing, drawing some prototypes and starting to work on (initially in Flash.) sounds good, and great to know people are looking at these possibilities.. i built a similar system in director a few years ago.. the main problem is the aggregation of online material. it was fine for marking material that i imported in manually, but how do we work with material in peoples feeds/blogs?  i think peter was heading in the right direction with his quoting system.. [videoblogging] Re: How to format .avi files for Google video?

2006-01-08 Thread gmjoyce_y
So what's the solution? Use AAC and hope Google accepts it?

Jim Vinson suggested Divx, because they are teaming up with Google,
but I can't find any official word from Google yet that you can upload
Divx-formatted files. Maybe Google plans to take your video and
encode it with Divx themselves?

BTW, I downloaded the Divx encoder free trial, did a simple
drag-and-drop of my .avi file onto the Divx converter -- no messing
with dozens of settings, no arcane language -- and the result was
really, REALLY good. High quality in a small file size.

If Divx were as ubiquitous as WMV or QT, things would be much easier
for everyone.

[videoblogging] Hello from Winnipeg!

2006-01-08 Thread Polly Washburn

I've been lurking for several weeks now, but I've decided it's time to introduce myself. I'm Polly Washburn, and I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada (still half-American though). My creative outlets include writing, filmmaking and web design. My vlog is called "A Week in the Life", basically life here in Winnipeg and fun and travels with my partner. My hope is to post weekly - so far I've posted 7 episodes: http://weekinthelife.blogspot.com Thanks for all the advice y'all so generously dispense. It's definitely helped me pick out a camera, find other people's vlogs, think about the nature of vlogging, etc.I've been on the road much of December, but I'm finally almost caught up on the discussion, and look forward to joining in as inspired...Cheers!Polly
