[videoblogging] SDHC recording time
Hey folks, thinking about purchasing the Kodak Zi8 and get back on the vlogging horse. It can apparently take a SDHC card of up to 32GB. My question is, how much recording time do I get out of that at: - 1080p, 30fps? - 720p, 60fps? - 720p, 30fps? - WVGA, 30fps? CNET says We calculated that when you record video at the highest level (1080p), you eat up anywhere from around 110 to 150MB per minute, depending upon video content, or about 14 to 18 minutes of video on a typical 2GB card. (Kodak quotes 20 minutes per gigabyte, but that's for 720p.) Similar to most competitors, videos are encoded as generally compatible QuickTime MPEG-4 MOV files, using H.264 compression. However, my googling gave me wildly varying estimates. What gives? I also looked at the material at www.kodak.com/go/zi8support but could not find anything of value. [videoblogging] Vlogger starter kit
Hey y'all. I am thinking about producing a talking head vlog à la rocketboom and I am trying to figure out what kind of gear I need. I saw http://epicfu.com/2008/12/how-to-make-a-kick-ass-web-sho.html and tried to look online for the definitive n00b's starter kit, but couldn't find a clear answer. I only have a Canon SD1000/Digital IXUS 70 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_sd1000.asp) to shoot with and I am guessing my first need would be a proper external mic... any suggestions on what could be a good value for little money and could work with this camera? Is there some cheap way to diy-engineer some good lighting? Btw, I live in Finland, so I do not have access to all the good online stores, not without significant delivery/customs cost anyway... I don't have a mac, and do not want to spend money on software. I have used Pinnacle Videospin with some success, can someone suggest any such free alternatives?

Im glad Heath started this thread. Maybe we need to identify what people don't like. When someone says i dont like the blog...is it just the nature of posts from Recent to old? When I first thought about posting video online, Peter Van Djick showed me how to blog because i didnt know how to code html. he recognized that it would be too difficult for me to code a website everytime I wanted to post a new video. That's why the blog as a CMS was so smart. Youtube is a CMS. all these videos sites we use are content management systems. I also have wanted more control of how things looked on my blog. I wish I could just drag and drop different elements on my blog in real time. I wish i wasnt hampered by this is the sidebar...this is the headerthis is the footer... and to change any of this stuff, I have to go into the code to change it. I would love to have a CMS where I can overlap things, and rearrange content everyday just by dragging it around. Jay -- http://jaydedman.com 917 371 6790

I gather there are quite a few folk in the video universe who prefer to combine VirtualDub with Movie Maker so I was wandering what sort of capture to publish protocol they followed? Hi Jay, thanks for your kind review. After a wait-a-minute moment, I realized who you were. Not too long ago you gave me some encouraging advice about vlogging and I set this up. It's done on Joomla. You are right about the context. I tried to dress up the YouTube channel, but it's true, you can only do so much. My hope is that someone will see a video in the wild, will see the watermark and will head over to www.myfirstmemory.org for more. I really don't have the urgency or energy to set up any forums or commenting system, so the site will probably stay as it is. If I could do one thing, I would like to find an easy way for people to send me their video so I can put it in the series... This, and the fact that I don't think I will ever do any high-quality video, lead me to think that YouTube is fine for now... frankly, I like to actually talk to people and find out their first memory a lot more than I like promoting the vlog. I would like to collect more memories than viewers... Cheers, MFM --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Jay dedman [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I am a newbie in this vlog-whatchamacallit thing, so please be kind and forgive me if this is a stupid question. I checked out your videoblog: http://www.myfirstmemory.org/ cool project: aksing different people their first memory. and nice layout...did you code that page yourself? or is that a service? And yes, some of us post on sites like Vimeo or blip because the quality of compression is better. Also, blip hosts your original file and lets you cross-upload to archive.org so there's a double backup. also, it's easier to talk with sites like blip if there's an issue because they will actually respond. all depends on what is most important to you. When I checked out your site, it looks important that people see the videos in context of your page...versus someone finding in the wild on Youtube. Jay -- http://jaydedman.com 917 371 6790
[videoblogging] Re: YouTube alternatives - vlog review.
Rupert, you are right. Right right right. What I was also thinking in the beginning is to not have anything significant below the fold in the site... and with syndication and tag cloud added, there wasn't much space. And so I guess I stuck with that mentality. I just wish there was a way to embed the comments section from YouTube, just like we can embed the video... Perhaps I could add a link to discuss this memory, which would point to the comments section of my channel (easier?) or each video (harder). Any other ideas? Cheers, MFM --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Rupert [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I liked the look of the site, too. But I really wanted a comment section. But you don't have a facility for conversation or involvement on the site, which is really what a lot of vlogging and social media is all about - and this would surely benefit from it. There are a bunch of Joomla commenting extensions that should be fairly easy to install. Just google for Joomla comments. Disqus have one - I use that on my Tumblr blog and it works well and took about five minutes to set up.
