I would agree with your assessment to avoid YouTube. I would also include vSocial as a great place to host your video. They provide a simple interface, the uploads have always been quick reliable and they provide a flash version.
After trying out about 12 different free hosting services blip.tv, vSocial and ourmedia are the ones i prefer.
