This is a discussion thread from this mailing list dated March 7th 2005.
Since the "Google Revisited" thread has caused some more talk about the nature of videoblogging and vodcasting.... thought it might be interesting to see some of what was said several months back.
There are several other threads as well... too bad yahoo group search sucks... but my gmail has it all archived so i find this stuff easily.

Anyway, i just woke up from a wine induced day.... on my way to my bed...  enjoy x-mas.

"I have to go with Verdi on this subject. Let's not try and define
ANYTHING at the moment. Let it grow. The reason why podcasting is such
a buzz word is because they didn't define whether it's a stream, or a
rss feed, etc. It's just audio shows basically. It's not new either!
>From a marketing stand point if you start trhowing all these terms
around, people won't know what the hell on vlog is to a vodcast.
Regular people  know don't even know what a BLOG is for crying out
loud. Let alone what the differnce is between a vlog and vogcast."

This is very contradictive.  In order to avoid the confusions you
speak of, talking about it and maybe defining some terminology would
offer some clarity.  I think Michael Verdi addressed that he was just
trying to motivate people to vlog and he is not opposed to the
discussion on this.  In fact, he and others are interested in teaching
videoblogging.... so in order to do that... you need to show and TELL.
We shouild have some definitions and there is nothing wrong with
that... it doesnt degrade integrity of the vlog form and as a group
about videoblogging, we better damn well talk about what it is in
addition to doing it =)

Jim, yeah I still like vodcast as you see it.  makes sense to me.  VOD
is not new term and always has referred to video on demand... and
thats what vloggers tap into on the sending and receiving ends.
vodcasting vlogs.  Cable companies vodcast movies with their On Demand
service.  Thats what they call it.  bloggers use video as their
primary content, so they are vloggers and if they choose to use rss +
enclosures, they are vodcasting their vlogs.  This paradigm makes
sense to me.  PODCAST means same thing but it was derived from the
audio/radio world and I just dont like applying it to video,
especially when VOD was already well established term for VIDEO. Why
should we latch on to the buzz podcast word?  my opinion.
