Re: [videoblogging] Re: Shotgun Microphone?
In the meantime, the cheapest, easiest way to get good sound into your camera on the fly is to keep the camera close to the subject, typically 3-6 feet away. Wikipedia also has a good entry on microphones, that might help to determine what kind of microphone best suits your needs. I.e. Omnidirectional, cadioid, hyper-cardioid, bi-directional, shotgun. We've been using a camera mounted shotgun microphone for our FEZ TV stuff. We've recorded some interviews using radio microphones, (not yet edited) but this was cause the guy who does camera is a sound recordist in his day job and had the equipment on standby. A few questions about that: My camera is a a Panasonic PVGS39. You have to plug the microphone in the front - there is no mount, therefore I'm having a hard time finding a good microphone. Any idea where I can find a good, relatively inexpensive $75 to $175 shotgun microphone that will work with my camera? RE: [videoblogging] Re: Shotgun Microphone?
Hi Jan, Thanks for the tip. Actually I've put carpet in the room. Have the cameramax three feetaway (usuallly only 2.5) . Turn on the built in zoom microphone. Used an external microphone. And still peoplesay the soundquality is not good enough. it's very frustration. I'l give the zoom microphone a try. My house has vaulted ceiling throughout - it'slarge -tile throughout -thin blinds throughout (live in Florida) - and very sparse modern decor. So maybe that's why. But I'm not willing to hang heavy drapes, or put down more than aLARGE throw rug in the room I film.I hope theshot gun microphone works. "A shotgun mic *may* help you. As I has posted before, a self-poweredlavalier microphone is going to be your solution to filming in anempty room like that. The shotgun mic is still going to pick up allthat echo." Oh, I see. Thanks David. I'll buy that instead. I've been saving all or the helpful replies from the board about mics, but haven't yet thoroughly read them. I suppose you could try it out and just return it if the quality sucks. I'd love to hear how that one performs. I saw a similar one in Radio Shack, er. 'The Source' and was curious.
