Here is what I do; After I compress, I open the movie in Quicktime pro
and scale it to 640x480--I don't acutally change the pixles in the
movie I just scale the window so it is playing back at this size. Then
I save it. Now when the movie plays back in a browser window or in
quicktime it will play
Why not future proof yourself and go in a widescreen format - iPods can handle 640x360 in mpeg4. File sizes are larger than H.264 but quicker to encode.DonOn 14 Mar 2006, at 05:33, sdorfman.rm wrote: --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, "Steve Watkins" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: So 640x480
If you just want one format, go with the iPod video format.
We encode, .mov, .m4v, .mp3, flash, and .wmv. With .m4v being about

The problem is that there isn't just one good universal format.
Flash comes the closest to being a universal format for Web viewing,
but it doesn't work on most portable devices. If you want to be sure
that your stuff can be seen on the iPod then choose one of the 3
formats work with it: MOV,
And don't forget DivX. We don't play on ipos or psp's (yet ;) ), but
we have more than 50 million certified CE devices out there. That is
more than every version of every ipod sold (video and non-video). We
have a web player for windows and for mac.

Yes mpeg4 rather than h264 offers greater compatibility with older
machines versions of quicktime etc.
Your mpeg4 files wont necessarily be any larger than h264 ones, its
just that at any given bitrate you can get better quality fromh264
than mpeg4. But many people use around the same bitrate

So 640x480 wont work because that would be 307200 pixels. But a
resolution like 544 x 408 that Taylor mentioned in an earlier post,
will work and is the right 4:3 aspect ratio.
Thanks, Steve. I did some searching
