    If it's really rigid styrofoam, it might not stay on the mic over 
time as the styro gets pressed into shape.  I remember building one of 
these using closed-cell foam - the dense kind of stuff that they sell in 
sewing stores for making cushions.  I've also used that tubular foam 
stuff that's pre-slit for putting onto hot water pipes.

    As for the cube, I've variously done that out of foam core (it's a 
craft-board material that's two layers of stiff paper laminated on 
either side of a foam sheet), matte board, and I think gator board.  All 
of these materials can come from a craft shop, or an office supply.  The 
interior foam doesn't need to look perfect, but the cube should be made 
to close tolerances.

    For the graphics I would just print stuff out on the computer, 
sometimes laminating it with shipping tape so it would be a little 
shiny.  I've only ever made them for quickie uses, like props.  If I 
were making one for keeps, I'd have one of those services print my logo 
art onto a vinyl sticker that I could apply myself.  Or I'd just see if 
I could beat B&H's price on an actual pro unit.  :)
