I remember building one of these using closed-cell foam - the dense kind of stuff that they sell in sewing stores for making cushions. I've also used that tubular foam stuff that's pre-slit for putting onto hot water pipes.
As for the cube, I've variously done that out of foam core (it's a craft-board material that's two layers of stiff paper laminated on either side of a foam sheet), matte board, and I think gator board. All of these materials can come from a craft shop, or an office supply. The interior foam doesn't need to look perfect, but the cube should be made to close tolerances. For the graphics I would just print stuff out on the computer, sometimes laminating it with shipping tape so it would be a little shiny. I've only ever made them for quickie uses, like props. If I were making one for keeps, I'd have one of those services print my logo art onto a vinyl sticker that I could apply myself. Or I'd just see if I could beat B&H's price on an actual pro unit. :) -- Bohus Blahut (BOH-hoosh BLAH-hoot) modern filmmaker ------------------------ Yahoo!
