Does anyone know who to contact for the PPR for the film Nothing But a
Man (1964) dir. by Michael Roemer with Ivan Dixon, Abbey Lincoln, Yaphet
Kotto?I've found that New Video Group and TCM are selling the DVD,
but can't find the film listed in the usual places.
Many thanks.

Michael Roemer still teaches at Yale and can be reached by sending an email to
the Film Studies Program administrator,

he retains the rights to the film, but by asking him you'll get the most direct
response.

Colleagues,
I'm searching for a DVD of Mein Krieg (written and directed by Harriet Eder
and Thomas Kufus). It was released by Kino on Video in 2000 but apparently is
out of print. Four third-party sellers are offering it on Amazon, but the price
is prohibitive (almost $300 for a new copy, and
If you don't hear from him try to contact the DuArt labs in New York. Irwin
Young, head of DuArt, was among the producers of the film, and his brother
Robert, is credited as cinematographer but according to some versions of the
story might be thought of as co-director.

We've had some requests for telenovelas (if that's the proper plural form...)
on DVD and haven't been able to find a source for them. This seems odd to me
since when I screen the offerings on the Spanish language tier of my cable
company's listings, telenovelas seem to be everywhere. Can
It's not in DVD distribution. Make a DVD replacement copy under Section
108 of the copyright law. The law requires initial attempts to purchase a
legit replacement at fair market, but I am certain that it can be
demonstrated that $300 is not fair market.
The one catch is that 108 mandates that

Well we always disagree on this Gary. What you suggest is pretty much a
license to transfer all VHS copies to DVD if there is not a $30 retail copy

you want to change the law you can lobby Congress, but the law clearly
Does anyone know if individual films from the recently released Elia Kazan

I'm pretty sure Wild River (1960), a wonderful film included in the set,
has never been available on video or DVD before. That one would also make
the set worth getting if the films aren't available separately.

Seattle,
From press release: The studio confirms that at this time singles will not
be available. So anyone wishing to purchase the previously unreleased titles
may only do so through this set.
That said, many are already available as separate DVDs. Looks like you'll need

The key words here are at this time .
As a long time authorized distributor for all labels, I can tell you that we
have seen many incredible availability changes.
So many, in fact, that we've learned to be patient and keep a keen eye on the
weekly release notices for reissues in
Fox does not own AMERICA, AMERICA and this set has a number of other films
that were clearly licensed specifically for the set and do not belong to
Fox. They do own Wild River, Tree Zapata, but they probably don't see any
money in separate releases.
