The City of Chicago has announced it will holding a parade for the Championship Blackhawks that will end at Grant Park in the South loop and start at the United Center West of the loop. Bottom line getting to McMormick place is going to be VERY ugly as hundreds of thousands of people maybe more will be going into and leaving downtown Chicago. There is a commuter train from downtown to McCormick, the Metra which many of the revelers will take but you will likely be reverse commuting. I suspect this is the best option provided you leave for McMormick before I would guess 2PM. Coming back from McCormick should not be an issue on the train ( Metra) I would avoid cars and buses. Those going to VRT dinner should try walking from their hotel or possibly a subway. It will be a madhouse. If you are flying in on Friday I strongly advice you to take blue line subway to downtown and if you must go to McCormick walk over to Millennium park Metra strop (literally two blocks) Just stay off the roads and use trains. Again you will be reverse commuting ( going out before or during parade and returning after from a station that no one but ALA people will be at) Anyone in Chicago can feel free to add details and correct this -- Jessica Rosner Media Consultant 224-545-3897 (cell) 212-627-1785 (land line) jessicapros...@gmail.commailto:jessicapros...@gmail.com This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual to whom they are addressed. Re: [Videolib] Blu-ray/DVD combo packs

For the branch libraries, we separate them, catalog each under the appropriate bib record and shelve them separately.Basically, the decision was made to separate because customers don't always have a Blu-ray player and because of the replacement cost issues. Some of the smaller member libraries (e.g., Riverside Library) have chosen to keep the combo packs as is. Each member library purchases their material and controls their own collection. At our Headquarters, Blu-rays are shelved away from the main DVD collection and each is housed in a security box. Right now, only four of our branch libraries have small Blu-ray collections and each is doing something different for security. One branch pulls all the discs and holds behind the circ desk. Another uses the security cases and a two leave the Blu-rays in the boxes like DVDs. [Videolib] borrowing restrictions for movies
Hello everyone, I would like your opinion on an policy that has bothered me since I took this job approximately seven years ago. Each year we revisit it and each year we keep the same policy. I work in a medium size public library that serves a population of 55,000. The borrowing policy of the library prohibits patrons under the age of eighteen from checking out any DVDs or videos. We also charge an Insurance fee of .50 for residents and $1.00 for non-residents per item. I know what ALA would say about restricting access to these items. However, this is not a perfect world where parents watch what their children check out from the library. We have had enough controversy at this library and I don't think we want any more. Heaven forbid if little Johnny should take home a movie that shows a breast! We do have a vocal conservative element in the community. So my question is, what should we do? Keep the policy? Change it to allow everyone access? I should tell you that because of this policy I buy some unrated movies and plenty of R rated. We wipe each disc as it comes back to us with a soft cloth. If it is really scratched we use some liquid car wax I purchased at Walgreens for $3.00 a bottle. We are buying Blu-Ray now. They are somewhat popular but certainly not as popular as DVDs. This holiday season I believe the players will start to go down in price and become more popular. Keep in mind that you can play a DVD on a Blu-Ray player so really you are just opening up your options by buying a Blu-Ray player. It would not bother me if a film was offered in Blu-Ray only.
