GetLatestVimScripts and compressed scripts

Hi, I hope to get some calrification about a recent change in vim's behaviour. I just started using :GetLatestVimScripts and vim now ignores any *.gz plugin scripts in my ~/.vim/plugin directory. It e.g. does not source the project.vim.gz script anymore. When I gunzip it, and it gets so
