Fastest interfacing with Java

Hi, It seems that the eclim project uses vim scripts that communicate with a java server running on a local TCP socket. The vim script(s) then sends messages as per defined protocol to the java server which in turn talks to Eclipse. I would like to know if there is a faster, more direct way
