When running gvim (version 7.1pl298):
gvim -p a*
... 12 files to edit
only 10 tabs are displayed.
I've expected 12. Are there any limitations ?

yes, the maximum for tab pages defaults to 10. But you can change it
with the 'tabpagemax' option:
