Try increasing the 'redrawtime' option.
Just a wild guess though because I've been hitting that a lot on my old
computer recently, so it's fresh on my mind. It likely won't work.

Just upgraded from a VERY old copy of Cygwin (with a pre version 8 gvim) to a
much newer version with vim 8.
I have a custom syntax recogniser for my primary language (VME SCL) which has
been quite stable for the past however lomg it’s been.
Now however, the colours al go away after an
