The late Bob Donalds of the old Boston Engine wrote a blog for VW repairs. He stated in a Vanagon head gasket replacement blog that it was best to use the sealant that supplied by the gasket mfgr for the rubber head gaskets, and stated that silicone sealers may attack the metal of the head.
