This means you are double-tapping with two fingers. Go to settings, general,
voice-over, practice area and practice the various gestures. iOS will tell you
what you are actually doing rather than what you think you are doing.

Karen,
From any screen generally, it is possible to do a double tap with two fingers
to start and/ or stop playing music.
So this can even happen from the home screen, is it possible that you are doing
this, given the larger screen size of the iPad Mini etc?

I have experienced something strange in several apps on my Mini. When I
attempt to tap a button in an app, other than the music app, music will
start playing. I have no idea what I'm tapping that's causing this. And
can't seem to find a way to turn it off without going into the Music app.
Hi Karen,
It sounds like you may be touching the screen with 2 fingers when trying to
start an app. A two-finger double-tap starts playing music. Be sure to
double-tap with one finger, or split-tap by touching the app you want to start
with one finger and tapping the screen once with another.
Karen,
Are you sure you aren't tapping with 2 fingers by mistake? It's very
easy to do as the screen is quite sensitive. the 2 finger tap is the
gesture for playing and pausing audio.
Best,

I had the same, two finger problem, when I got my first iPad. You'll get used
to it, I promise. :-)
