Try Siri. I just discovered that you can simply ask What song is
playing? and it will figure it out almost 100% of the time.
One less app to buy.

The last version of Sound Hound didn't appear to be as accessible, so Music
Id is my choice. You can also set up Siri to do that in the latest version
of IOS 8.

Apple acquired shazam so it is now part of iOS 8, so you can simply ask Siri
what song is playing and so long as the microphone on the iPhone is picking up
the music, Siri will attempt an identification for you.
