Hi all. I'd like to address the issue of the iPad app and the more than 10 messages it generated from it. I see two sides to this and I'm not sure where I stand. I won't make any sort of list policy because this isn't worth it. Only you, the list member can choose how to handle this, but the bottom line, sending continuous messages to the list to express your opinion about how it should or shouldn't be done is serving no purpose and just wasting time and energy. Below are some suggestions for both a person giving information, and a person reading the information.

1. If you are posting information about an app, or some news which you feel is important to share with the list, perhaps you can consider giving at least 1 or 2 sentences about what you are posting about rather than just the link. For example, if i find a new app which i think is the best check book app of all times I might post a message with the subject of "new check book app", or the name of the app. In the body of the message I might say, hey all, I found this new check book app which I think might work for everyone. I don't know if it's voice over friendly, or if it works with low vision users. Here is the link. That way a person who reads the list and isn't interested in reading about check book apps won't bother with the link. Or if a person is looking for one, and is interested, will already have the name of the app or at least some information, along with the link.

2. If you are reading a message that someone posts and they only give a link then my suggestions follow. First off, only you can decide to enter on a link to follow it to see the information. If the message is too boring for you, or you can't take the 30 seconds or so to find out what it is by going to the page, then feel free to skip it. Go ahead, no one on this list will care if you delete a message without having read it. If you agree or disagree with the way someone posts on list, please feel free to take it up with that person directly rather than airing your displeasure on the list. Doing it on the list just adds to the high traffic and doesn't really solve anything.

So, the bottom line for both poster of information, and reader of information is, try to consider the other person's feelings, and mode of posting. Not everyone is good at tapping or clicking on links and reading information from a web browser, yet at the same time, we as information givers, don't always have time to write out or paste the information which is already on a web page just to make it super easy for those who can't or won't visit a link. So, why not that middle ground compromise? If you the information giver follows my suggestion and gives a brief explanation about the app or link, and if you the reader tries to cut other posters some slack, I think things will go a lot more smoothly.
