Okay, I figured it out. In case it happens to somebody else, you have to go
into the groups section, into icloud, and tap show contacts. This is stupid,
why should it do such a thing! I definitely was in panic mode when I sent that
first message.

I still have my contacts through the contacts tab within the phone app,
Have you checked there also?
