Hi Todd, have you checked that QuickNav is off? If it's not, in the presently
released build of iOS 8, you won't be able to input text. Toggle it by pressing
the left and right arrow keys toget
It used to toggle automatically when going into a text field, but it doesn't
anymore. You either have to use the control-option keys with QuickNav off in
order to navigate, or remember to toggle it off when you want to type text.

I have two external keyboards and a Braille display. The keyboards are a wired
keyboard and a bluetooth one. All three devices are flakey with iOS8. I find
that having QuikNav on and always showing the keyboard are both very helpful
settings.
