If you use Fantastical II, then you can have both reminders and calendar appointments in the same place. Also, Fantastical lets you set more than 2 alerts before a calendar event. At times, I have set 3 alerts for a doctor appointment, 1 a week before, and the other two leading up to the

OK, I will try to give you some answers. The biggest difference in the Calendar app and the Reminders app is that once the time of an event in the Calendar goes by, you will not see it again. But in the reminders app, each reminder has a checkbox, and it will remain in your reminder list
