You can get the IPSW file at www.IPSWDownloader.com
Please make sure you know exactly which phone model you have so you can
download the appropriate file. It is not enough to know that you have an
iPhone 5C or 5S since there are different models of these for different
markets/carriers. The model

No, you will have to get a sighted person to tell you the model on the back

The model in Settings/General/About is not a letter and four digits and that's
why I was asking.

Anthony,
In the case of iOS 8 I could think of quite a few reasons. If somebody is
not very tolerant when it comes to dealing with bugs and they rely heavily
on using a bluetooth keyboard for example this would be a valid reason. Yes,
new softsware (and old software) will always have some bugs,

Hi,
To find the model number of your device without sighted help:
1. Navigate to settings general about.
2. Find the serial number and make a note of the last four characters.
3. Enter them on this http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
page. NB: the page is fairly cluttered, so I tend

I learned something today. That's pretty cool and I bookmarked that site
because now I'll never need anybody to look this up for me again. I can always
get to my serial number and now with that and the help of that site I can find
the model number.
