A commercial CD is not in MP3 format. MP3 is what is called a Lossy
format. At some point some smart people at the Fraunhofer Institute in
Germany figured out that the human ear/brain does not hear certain sounds

In preferences under general you can adjust the import settings. You might
consider having iTunes ask you if it you want to import a CD when it's inserted
but there's a number of choices in there you can choose from. Others may be
