Can anybody recommend an application that makes it easier to answer my phone. I
do woodturning on a lathe and my fingers have a fine layer of sawdust on them
and sometimes my phone won't answer when I slide or double tap the screen.

Remember that a two-finger double-tap is how you answer the phone if VoiceOver
is running. You could also wear headphones when you're working with the lathe;
then you tap the center button to answer a call.

As far as I know this is only possible if you jailbreak your phone. I know that
is less than ideal and most likely not even an option right now but it's the
only thing that I know would work.
