It appears you have Shift Command Down Arrow doing 2 different things.

standard much, then adding shift to navigation key combinations, should
induce slection of that you navigate over. Mac started this, and it spread

What kind of BT keyboard do you have? Is it a Mac base or Win base device? The
reason I ask is in order to select text on an iDevice, you need to use VO
commands. I'm not the best with highlighting text to copy either, but I'll give
you a couple of commands.

I know this isn't your question, but if you set your roter to lines,
you'll be selecting larger chunks of data when using the pinch gesture.
