Hello Everyone and thank you all for your contributions to this thread.

I Downloaded both SoundHound and Shazam and, so far, have found Shazam a bit
more responsive and accurate. What took me one try with Shazam took 4 tries
with SoundHound in order to get the correct information.

Just so you know, what I did to acquire the information I needed was to
first initiate the listening feature of the app, then, hold the phone in
front of the speaker of my television and play the section of the video I
was watching.

While SoundHound is more comfortably accessible with VoiceOver, as is the
case with many apps, Shazam, while usable with VoiceOver, does need some
work in terms of labeling buttons and limiting screen-bleed-through.

I will provide the direct links to both the free and paid versions of Shazam
below but first I ask that you join me in requesting better VoiceOver
accessibility for Shazam by sending an email to the developer at:
apple.supp...@shazamteam.com

Okay, the link to the free version of Shazam is:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shazam/id284993459?mt=8

The paid version of Shazam is called Shazam Encore which cost approximately
6.99 USD. Shazam Encore has no advertisement banners. The link to Shazam
Encore is:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shazam-encore/id337288863?mt=8

Thank you all for your support.

Mark

Mark, your initial post was plenty clear but I guess I got in game mode from
the Name that Tune reference. As others have mentioned, Sound Hound is very
good for what you want as is MusicID with Lyrics By Gravity Mobile. It sells
for $.99 and the version I use is accessible although not quite as
proficient as Sound Hound at identifying songs. Sound Hound is also one of
the few that claims to be able to identify the name of a song you hum into
your phone.

Hello Alan and thank you.

However, based on the description on Apple Vis, Music Quiz Guru sounds more
like a game than a utility.

What I am seeking is an app that will identify a currently playing song that
I am hearing off-device.

My apologies as I should have been much more clear in my initial post.

So, for example, I am watching television or listening to a radio station in
the car. A song comes on and I like it and I want to determine what the
title of the song is. So, I pull out my trusty iPHone with the name of the
mystery app on it, launch the mystery app, let it listen to the currently
playing song via the phone's microphone, and it returns, hopefully, the
correct information.

Do you know of any app that does this?

Thank you,

Mark

I like the app which I believe is now called Music Quiz Guru although the
app name saved on my computer is actually Song Guru. Here's a link to an
AppleVis page discussing it:

http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/games/music-quiz-guru-name-song-trivia

You can play the game to identify either the song name or the artist name or
maybe even the album name. The app requires a wi-fi connection and will play
up to 30 seconds of the song from the entire online iTunes songbook and give
you a four option multiple choice from which to choose. The app is fun and
accessible. It looks to be selling for $1.99 for the current version.

Subject: A Name That Tune App Question

Hello Everyone,

I seem to remember that there used to be a VoiceOver accessible app that
would allow you to play the snippet of a song and then it would give you the
title of the song.

Does that app still exist and if so, can you tell me the name of the app?

Thank you,

Mark
