Hello everyone, when it comes to the iPhone, I am all thumbs, and, all fingers.
To really get things right I need a good Bluetooth QWERTY keyboard. The only
kind of screen input I can do is the keypad on the phone in dialing numbers.
When it comes to dictation it it gets it all wrong when it

For me, the reason I like using my thumbs is that since the phone is anchored
to both palms, my thumbs are always in the same position relative to the
phone's screen. It's easier for me to keep my thumbs oriented to the screen. If

I tried using my thumbs to enter text on my phone & found it to be unnatural

Hi all. Interesting thread. When using the onscreen keyboard I primarily use my
right index finger. I also use M Braille or dictation. I make myself use the
onscreen keyboard for short messages just to keep in practice.
God bless!

I do not have that kind of case, have another kind without a flap. I hold my
phone in the left hand, and while I do use my thumb, sometimes to open apps or
go through weather, stock, etc, I use my right forefinger to type on my phone's
keyboard, would not have a peripheral.

I also do use Siri for dictation. I think he is great as well. Esther

wow, that's pretty neat. I use what is called a split tap. I put one finger on
the letter, then with the next finger I use it to type the letter in. I really
like that method. Sometimes I even dictate, but I try to use the split tap
method just to keep in practice. Esther

I have tried using my thumbs to type a couple of times just because I have
heard that lots of people type that way. However, I found it to be extremely
awkward. Whenever possible, I use my M braille app to enter text. Its great
and so much faster than typing on the keyboard. In fact, I used
I do use my thumbs. My sighted children showed me how to do it. I place the
phone so that each bottom corner is in the palm of one of my hands. My fingers
reach around behind the phone to cradle it. I then use my thumbs to type, with
my left thumb reaching the keys on the left and so on.

Hi all,
I wish I had my daughter’s thumbs. She can type very fast with them. Lol.
I use my right index finger for most of the typing that I do on the onscreen

How could I've forgotten about "Braille Screen Input!"! I use this method too
sometimes! It takes practice, though.

Holding the phone in my left hand, I use the 3 fingers (Index, Middle, and
Ring), and depending on what letter I'm typing, the finger: for the A, Q, W, S,
i, I use the Index; for the E, D, F, R, etc., the middle but sometimes the
Index. And for the rest of the letters, I use either the Index or
I also use my pointer or index finger to type as well. Hope all of you have a

No, nor could I use my thumbs to type. I hold the phone in its case in my left
hand and type with my right index finger. In this way, if I accidentally hit
the adjacent letter, I can just slant my finger over to hit the correct key.

Tom. I highly recommend that you get the Hable One braille bluetooth
keyboard. The Hable when you type on the keyboard is based off of
braille screen input. However, you can type on actual buttons, and
not the phone keyboard itself. Good luck.

Any tips on using the Braile screen input? I tried it before, but it seems I
always have the screen turned the wrong way. No matter what I do, it seems
like the Braille screen input doesn’t work for me.

Wow, I couldn’t imagine using my thumbs to type. They’re way too big for those
small letters. I use my pointer finger usually, but also use other fingers if
they’re closing to, say, the delete, L, O, or return keys.

I use braille screen input. I can type on the regular keyboard, but I am very
slow. So, if it is more than a very few words, it is braille screen input.
Ocasionally, I use dictation if I am in a quiet environment. I almost never

Hello All,
A friend of mine and I got into a discussion about how we type in iOS, when
sending text messages.
It started when she asked me if I use my thumbs to type. Even though I know
that a great many people use their thumbs to enter text on iPhone,
personally I find the technique slow and
