contacts do not delete

I have more contacts in the phone than I want. I have so far been unable to remove them. Clicking delete under the edit menu for each contact results in the following the linked contact will not be deleted I am still presented with a delete button. However, the contact is not removed. What

contacts do not delete

I removed facebook from the phone but all the contacts snagged from facebook remain. I have tried to delete contacts but I have gotten a message that linked contacts would not be deleted I hit the delete button again but the contact remains. Why? How do I dump these contacts and not have
