This morning I went to sync my iPhone 6+ with iTunes which I don’t do very
often. I couldn’t find my iPhone on the computer but when I unlocked my phone
while still connected I saw the “trust computer” dialog. I double-tapped
“trust” and the dialog disappeared. But my iPhone still didn’t show up and this
scenario was repeated again and again as I unplugged my phone and plugged it
into the computer several times. So I went searching for a solution and found
the following. It may not work for everybody but it worked for me. This
solution is for Mac users. I apologize that I didn’t grab the ones for Windows
users at the same time; only just realized that now. If anybody needs a Windows
solution and can’t find it, I can look in my history for safari and try to find
the link. Sorry!

1. Unplug your devices from the computer and close iTunes.
2. Copy and paste the following in terminal and press enter. You will have to
enter your password for which you will be prompted.
sudo chflags -R nouchg /var/db/lockdown

3. Now you want to get rid of all the files in your /var/db/lockdown folder but
you don’Mt want to get rid of the folder itself. There are two ways to do this.

a. In terminal type:
sudo open /var/db/lockdown
and press enter/return.
B. Do cmd-a to select all files (the original instructions mentioned
alphanumeric file names but I included all files including the configuration
property list).
Move all to trash.
Empty trash.
If you do this with sudo, you probably won’t be asked for your password again
when emptying the trash.

Or
B. From the Finder, choose Go > Go to folder.
Type /var/db/lockdown and press Return.
Choose View > as Icons. The Finder window should show one or more files with
alphanumeric file names.
In the Finder, choose Edit > Select all.
Choose File > Move to Trash. You may need to enter an administrator password.
Note: Delete the files in the Lockdown folder; don't delete the Lockdown folder.

C. You could also do
sudo rm -r /Var/db/lockdown/*
(the star is very important).
But I don’t advise this because it’s probably a good idea to actually see what
is in that folder first and leaving out the star accidentally could delete the
folder instead of just the files.

Finally, whatever method you used, restart your computer.

This did work for me but i have no way of knowing whether this is a permanent
fix or whether I may have to do it again.

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper
thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:
"This I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord
never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness."
(Lamentations 3:21-23 ESV)
