Hello Esther,
I have an iPad 4 running 7.0.4. Why do you think my buttons are not working
with VO. Like I said only the number buttons announce.

All those buttons work for me, and I didn't relabel them. From the bottom
right corner, I hear VO say, equals, plus, hyphen (for the minus
sign), divided by. None of these buttons were relabeled. I checked a
first generation iPad Mimi running iOS 6.1.2 and a 4th generation iPad (not
mine) running iOS 7.0.4.

Both iPads installed the app under iOS 6 and were upgraded.

Do you have one of the newest model iPads?

The only keys I relabeled were for the Memory register M minus because the
hyphen wasn't pronounced, and the x squared and x cubed buttons, which
had a first label of x and then either a2 or 3 if you flicked again.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: Fleksy Keyboard Makes Its Way To iOS Through Third-Party Apps

2013-12-20 Thread Mary Otten
Right. You do one of the angle gestures, you find the suspend talkback thing,
you do that then hopefully you're back in Fleksy. You use Fleksy. And I suppose
you turn the screen often on to get talkback back. And you go on about your
business. If people want to do that, that's great. All I'm saying is, when
saying that something can be done on a different system it's good to know all
the steps so people won't make apples and oranges comparisons.

Fleksy Keyboard Makes Its Way To iOS Through Third Party AppsIf there’s
one thing about Android is that it is not as restrictive compared to
iOS. This means that users are able to customize their device to their
liking, sometimes without even having to root their phone. For example
customization could be a change in launchers, or keyboards, or even
changing the default camera/browser app. Well the good news is that it
looks like some of that customization could be headed iOS’ way in the
 form of Fleksy keyboard
 http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/12/fleksy-keyboard-for-android-leaves-beta/.
The app has been available on Android and recently left its beta phase,
but its developers have not stopped there and have released an SDK for
 iOS developers.

While Fleksy will not be able to replace all of iOS’ keyboards,
developers now have the option to include the keyboard within their
 apps. Speaking to The Verge
 http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/12/5201868/fleksy-wants-to-become-your-new-ios-keyboard-everywhere,
Fleksy’s founder, Ioannis Verdelis, was quoted as saying, /“With every
new version of iOS the work required on our part to build a keyboard SDK
has reduced significantly […] We’re [now] doing stuff on iOS that
integrates the keyboard deeper than it’s ever been integrated.” /As it
stands there are a handful of apps that have already integrated Fleksy
into their apps, such as GV Connect, Blindsquare, Wordbox, and Launch.
If you’re wondering what those apps might be like to use with a keyboard
different from the default iOS one, go ahead and check them out.

Hi,

Yes, the Kindle app is accessible. You can't buy books from within the app, but
you can download samples and then have a link emailed to you that takes you to
the page where you can buy the book. Or you can search for and buy the book
using Safari to go to amazon.com.

Re: Simple calculator for iPad

2013-12-20 Thread Esther
Hello Ed,

I'm really puzzled about why you are not hearing the buttons. I wish
someone else who has an iPad would try this out and report back. I tried
deleting the app from the iPad 4 running 7.0.4 and re-downloading it, and
the buttons are still announced by VoiceOver. The only thing that is
different about the situation is that the initial download of the app was
done under iOS 6, and then the iPad was upgraded to iOS 7 by software
download, and the app was updated to the latest version. At this point the
only thing I can try is deleting the app and downloading it again, but all
the buttons are announced when I do this (except on the paper tape where
the sections for ads are announced as button and then if you flick right
you'll hear the test descriptions of the contents -- double tapping on the
text gives the same result as double tapping on the initial unlabeled
button announcment).

I don't suppose you know anyone else with an iPad who could try to install
this app? Even if they removed the labels from the buttons on the other
keys in the most recent update, I don't understand how these could be
present in the versions I have. After all, I didn't label all those other
buttons!

Is you iPad nearly full? Maybe if there is limited storage space or a
faulty section of the memory, part of the program code is overwritten?.Have
you tried deleting and redownloading the app? Honestly, I don't have any
more ideas. This app should just work. I only relabeled three buttons to
have more convenient lables -- not because these were unlabeled when I
started.

If an app gave me this much trouble, I would probably just move on and try
a different app. Sorry not to have better suggestions. I may ask on
another list if someone will try downloading and checking this app.

Best,

Esther

Hi Claudia,

Yes, there's a Kindle app you can download. If you read through Justin
Romack's post about this at Fedora Outlier, you'll find out pretty much all
the features of the Kindle app:
• BREAKING: Amazon’s Kindle for iOS Updated with Accessibility
http://www.fedoraoutlier.com/breaking-amazons-kindle-for-ios-updated-with-accessibility/

You have to visit the Amazon web site separately to buy the books. But
once you purchase them they will show up in the Kindle app, and you can
read them there.

Re: kindle App

2013-12-20 Thread Ann
Morning, what you do is bookmarked the Kindle store and your Safari browser,
then it's time you want to purchase a new book you can just go straight to it
through your bookmarks and buy your books or books. They do magazines too but
I've never bought any magazines or newspapers.
What I do also, is I use the regular Amazon.com application, then I find books
that I like using the search function, then I bookmarked them to a wish list
that I can go to later. If you need step-by-step help one-on-one help, don't
hesitate to send me an email. Happy reading, you'll love it!

Re: kindle App

2013-12-20 Thread Teresa Cochran

Hi, Claudia,

You can get the Kindle app in the app store. You will need to use the
web browser on your computer or device to buy books.

Hi,

Is there a Kindle application that I can download onto my Ipod, in order to
read Kindle books?  And, if so, how do I pay for those books, through the
application itself?

Thanks.

Claudia

Re: Uber

2013-12-20 Thread patrickneazer
Hello Deb and all:

Thank you so much for the information.

I was wondering if you or any one else had experiences with the apps of any of
the other car services. If so, how would you rate the accessibility?

Take good care and I wish you enough.

I love Uber and I love the app. You can request a car in the app, it
will show you how long it will be before it comes. You can call or
text the driver directly which is very handy if you're in a crowd etc.
It's the most fabulous car service I've ever used and they've made
their app accessible. It was not initially and it does have frequent
updates so occasionally it will have minor access issues, but they
always fix it right away. I highly recommend trying it. Read all the
details about pricing and types of vehicles for your area on their
site, because there are possibly various options. but at least with
respect to what we discuss here, you can go for it with no problem.

 Hello,

Has anyone used Uber car service? I’ve taken advantage of a Amazon Local
coupon for a free $25 ride. I was curious if any other blind iPhone users
have feedback about the Uber experience.
