Re: Bose frames

I have the orange lenses for my Tempo frames. It needed huge efforts by my
sighted wife to swap them out!
With RP I need to cut out the blue end of the light spectrum.

Re: Question about Dice world sounds and hearing aids

2021-06-02 Thread regina alvarado
Once he sets the audio routing to what he wants, I put mine too always hearing
aids or whatever it is, I then turn my phone off and back on and that clears
up the problem of not hearing the sounds in the hearing aids. I hope this
helps.

Any suggestions?
He’s tried the audio routing in the rotter and that didn’t work either.

Youtube switching between portrait and landscape orientation iPhone12 pro max

2021-06-02 Thread Shai
Hello,
I have a friend using an iPhone12 pro max with VoiceOver latest
version of iOS. They have the rotation lock set in control center and
they report that when watching a Youtube video and rotating the phone,
VoiceOver will switch between portrait and landscape modes.
I have tested this on both an iPhone10r and 8+ but I am not
experiencing this issue.
Is anyone else on here experiencing this and how did you resolve?
Thank you in advance for any responses.

Re: Search field gone twitterrific

2021-06-02 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi all, For those of you who were wondering like me where the search feature
has gone in twitterriffic homefeed, I found it finally:
If you double-tap on the home heading at top of home feed screen you get a
bunch of interesting actions, including the "find" feature that you can use to
only show tweets that match your search in your feed.
Very glad to have figured this out.

RE: EnVision Smart Glasses Vs. OrCam

2021-06-02 Thread zhi.huang
Hi all:

In the US, the 2 premiere dealers for the Envision glasses are Access Ingenuity
and Florida Reading. In short, Access Ingenuity handles west of the
Mississippi, while Florida Reading handles the Eastern parts.

Both companies provided presentations on the Envision Glasses the last few
months.

Here’s a link to the audio presentation from Access Ingenuity:

  Meet the New Envision Glasses.m4a

Here’s the same presentation with video:

  Meet the New Envision Glasses.mp4

Here’s a link to a Florida Reading demo.

Live Envision Glasses Demonstration - YouTube

I will sum up what I know about the Envision Glasses vs the OrCam. I should
mention that I do work for Access Ingenuity, but will be as down the middle as
possible.

Options: Envision Glasses only have one set of Google glasses; however there
are 2 frames. One with a frame but does not let you include lends and one
allowing you to include lends for sunglasses, prescription, and nonprescription.

OrCam has several devices. They have ones for just reading text, another for
text and bar codes, Etc.

Price: Envision Glasses are $3500, if you get the Smith Optics frame, to allow
you to add lends, it’s an additional $500

OrCam’s most expensive product, the direct competitor to the Envision Glasses
is $4500.

Requirements: Envision Glasses require you to use the Envision AI app on a
smart device.

OrCam is stand alone

Scanning text: both do it and do it pretty well.

Envision Glasses has an online and offline mode. Offline is faster, but online
increases accuracy. It also lets you send scans to the Envision AI app
allowing you to then share the file via txt or pdf to your other devices or
others. As for file size, this is text so it does not take up a lot of room
and you can pretty much store as much as your smart device allows.

OrCam has more limited storage since it’s on the actual device.

Scanning barcodes: Envision Glasses currently do not do this with the Glasses,
but the Envision app does have this feature through your smart device.

OrCam does have this feature

Calling someone through your glasses to provide them video in the point of view
of the glasses: the Envision Glasses can do this, but you do need the person
to set this up with the Envision Ally app first. This is only through your
glasses and not with the Envision AI app.

For those who say, I can call with my smart phone. Yes, you can, but this puts
things in the point of view of the actual glasses. Its not a big deal for
everyone, but convenient and helpful for someone who may not have the option of
holding their phone since you actually ware the glasses. Also helpful for
someone who is not good at aiming their phone camera. In the case of the
glasses, if the person says its in front of you, it is assuming you are wearing
the glasses, then it would be in front of you.

OrCam does not have this feature.

Battery life: Envision Glasses is about 5-6 hours with active use.

Most OrCam models have 1.5-2 hours with active use, while OrCam Read has 4
hours of active use.

You can add a charger from Amazon to extend the battery life here:

OrCam MyCharger - Wearable Power Bank Especially Made to Charge Your MyEye
Device: Electronics

Those are the basics. Please feel free to check out the links and let me know
if you have any additional questions.

I'm interested in learning about these glasses too. I do know that Access
Ingenuity sells them but I guess you can go to letsenvision.com to find other
dealers there should be a link labeled distributors.

Hi Rick and everyone; Rick can you tell me or can anyone tell me what style

Hi. The Frames Tempo doe not have the directional features of the earlier
models. Not sure why Bose decided to abandon that idea. The Frames do have very
good microphones and work re4ally well for making and receiving phone calls. I
wear my Tempos literally all day.

I am a month behind in reading mail from this list. Hope you will forgive me
for asking questions on Bose Frames.
I didn't know about them and am absolutely fascinated by the idea! I want
headphones I can wear while walking outside that would allow me to listen to
GPS directions from my phone as well as sounds in the environment. The open
ear technology sounds like it will do that.

Since I have no vision, not even light perception, the lenses are not important
except that polarized do seem to be better than non-polarized.
The Tempo seems to be highly recommended by list members. However I noticed
that the older alto has two features not mentioned in any of the newer models:
Integrated microphone
Multi-directional motion sensor

Do the newer models have microphones for taking calls or giving commands to the
phone?
What is the advantage of a multidirectional motion sensor, either in general or
for me as a blind user?
I hope someone has tried the alto and knows what this does.

Thank you in advance for your help, as well as for bearing with me on this
subject.

Sounds like she was a low level support person reading from a script. What
would your modem settings have to do with the accessibility of an app. i
assume that you are referring to the iPhone app, and not the web site.

problems with the MLB app, not being able to go back in the calendar to a
previous month. I just talked to MLB‘s Accessibility person, and the
conversation was ridiculous. She wanted me to uninstall the app, reset my
modem, do all kinds of garbage that’s totally not related to the fact that
the app is not fully accessible. So either I’m missing something, and maybe
that’s where the Apple accessibility people can point out some thing that I’m
not doing right, or there’s just no way to do it. But her advice was absurd.
I mean unlabeled buttons are not a problem that’s going to be solved with
all the garbage that she had me doing. So I didn’t do it.

Re: Lyft, adding a stop during a ride

I do the same thing. I often have to setup round trips via Lyft or Uber to drop
my kids off somewhere, though I find this easier to do in Lyft, and I just set
the final destination the same as my pickup location and add stops from there.

A New Challenge With The Captchas

2021-06-02 Thread Arnold Schmidt
In actuality, this will make things easier for us, but it takes a little work.
In a few cases, before I knew what I am about to write, when I noticed no audio
challenge opportunity was present, I clicked the verify button and it went
through, but not every time. Apparently, the bots have gotten too good about
solving the audio challenges, so they have had to come up with another way.
Now, you have to put an accessibility cooky into your browser which is good for
24 hours. Your ip address is monitored, and this cooky only can be used a
limited number of times within that 24 hours, or you will be permanently banned
from using the system. To get this cooky, go to

https://www.hcaptcha.com/accessibility
and read how to do it. They will send an email, you verify you are you, and hit
the set cooky button. Be sure to save that email to use it to get another cooky
when the old one no longer works. Unfortunately, those with IOS 14.5 have to
turn off cross tracking for this to work, I hope I never forget to turn it back
on when I am finished. But the one site I could not get into before I got my
cooky let me in afterward.

I would say most times they try to help.
They may be at least willing to do a screen share so they can see what is
happening and let you know if they think it is an MLB app issue, or an Apple

I only have MLB audio and have not tried to get into archived games.

Mary; I’ve called Apple about third-party apps. It really depends on the

Apple accessibility and third-party apps

2021-06-02 Thread Mary Otten
I wonder if anyone has any experience calling Accessibility at Apple regarding
voiceover with a third-party app. I wouldn’t suppose they would be much help,
but I’m just wondering. I mentioned before that I was having problems with the
MLB app, not being able to go back in the calendar to a previous month. I just
talked to MLB‘s Accessibility person, and the conversation was ridiculous. She
wanted me to uninstall the app, reset my modem, do all kinds of garbage that’s
totally not related to the fact that the app is not fully accessible. So either
I’m missing something, and maybe that’s where the Apple accessibility people
can point out some thing that I’m not doing right, or there’s just no way to do
it. But her advice was absurd. I mean unlabeled buttons are not a problem
that’s going to be solved with all the garbage that she had me doing. So I
didn’t do it.

RE: OT Sonos, google assistant and apple music

2021-06-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't think Google Assistant can connect to Apple Music, but I am not 100%
sure. Alexa definitely can and while we have several Google speakers around the
house, all our Sonos speakers are set up with Alexa because we like the fact
that we can then play Audible books as well as use our Apple Music
subscription. You can always call Sonos support at 800-680-2345 to find out.

2021-06-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Expedia is a general travel booking service, an online travel agency so to
speak and you can book pretty much anything with it, from a hotel in your own
town/city to domestic or international flights, rental cars and more. You can
always go to the Expedia website.

Hi Sieghard

Does this app deal with only international travel or domestic / national travel
also?

I'm just thinking of a second option for here in NZ travelling within the
country rather than out of it,

Mind you we don't have a lot of places to go anyway!

Expedia works well, I have also used a couple of specific airlines apps and
most seem pretty accessible. All of these are free so nothing lost if you try,
Applevis may also have some more detailed eviews.

If you do not have iMessages set to save your voice messages that it’s going to
expire after two minutes what I would do is the following.

Go to settings go to where messages is located scroll down until you get to
audio messages there should be an option to never expire you wanna double tap
that one and then you’ll be able to see voice messages for much longer. If this
does not help write in again and someone will hopefully be able to help you out
there.

Re: Thermostats for the Blind

2021-06-02 Thread 'Andrew Walker' via VIPhone
Hello Mike. I have the Tado thermostat which works well with Voiceover. I
can set schedules, alter temperatures in the app. It can also be used with
the Amazon Echo and may be used with Google but I have not tried this. It
can track your movements and turn on or off if nobody is at home. I have
had this for three or four years.

I have had the Tado thermostat for three or four years now. The app works
with Voiceover to set schedules, alter the temperature etc. The Tado can
track your movements and turn on or off automatically should nobody be at
home. It also works with the Amazon Echo well and may well work with
Google, but I have not tried this.

RE: Blind Tech Guys Invites You To Be A Part Of The BTG ClubHouse Community

2021-06-02 Thread marco.curr
Hello everyone,

Blind Tech Guys now has a club on ClubHouse and we invite you all to join our
ever-growing community.

You will find the podcast here, where we discuss Android, iOS, and any other
technology product or service from a blindness perspective.

The Blind Tech Guys are two blind podcasters who make it their mission to bring
you this content. Blind Tech Guys is published weekly, with occasional bonus
midweek episodes.

We are aware that it can be difficult to find technology resources from a
blindness perspective. While there are other podcasts out there, we believe
that the landscape is fragmented, and our strengths lie in providing you with
tech content and commentary that is useful and easy to understand. We know you
can go elsewhere for your content consumption, but we are positive that you
will find what you are looking for by being a part of our community.

To join the ClubHouse BTG community, click on the following link.

I hope to see you all around on the ClubHouse streets!

Warm regards,

Marco Curralejo
