Well, the top row is the function keys. They don't do much, though a couple of them should adjust volume, play and pause audio, rewind etc. I've never had an issue with the escape key. If it at least doesn't activate the back button when there is one on the screen, perhaps it is a bad keyboard

I'm using a 128-GB AT iPhone 6S running iOS 9.3.1. I didn't realize how far behind I was on iOS updates! I've kinda been putting it off because of needing to have the absolute latest version of iTunes, and version 12 has gotten progressively worse in terms of managing what's on your iDevice.
