Sounds weird. I don't see how can be a connection between their having the
battery charged and the EarPods not disconnecting are related. You shouldn't
have to lock an iPhone in order to charge it, or the battery case.

Re: KNFB Keeps throwing me out

2016-12-23 Thread englishrider91
I've tried deleting and reinstalling, as well as closing all apps in the app
switcher before starting, and neither of those things really helped. I get
tossed out of KNFBReader pretty often. What also happens a lot is that I get no
field of view report. It just mays "no report available." Also, another thing
that'll happen is that when I get a successful picture and then press the back
button after all the text has been read, it just sits there and doesn't go back
to the main screen. I have to completely close the app to restore functionality.

Thanks,
Ari

I love the FlightView app for getting gate info ant other info about my
flights. It does real time tracking but I've never used this feature. It
comes in a free, a 99 cent, and an elite version but I don't recall their
differences. I have the elite version and it works great with VoiceOver and
I find its interface intuitive and easy to use.

Good luck.

Are there any good alternatives to knfb reader? I sometimes need to

things about this app.

Also any idea how to get my money back from the app store :) ?

From what I heard from a computer savvy friend of mine with high partial
vision who’s played with it, I don’t think I’ll buy it unless it comes down
quite a bit further in price.
It’s pretty finicky about your stuff having to be flat for one thing, and
it’s also sensitive to lighting for another. He tells me that LED lighting
gives it trouble because of their color profile or something. Also, if you
have a light above it, say a chandelier above a table, as he has in his
dining room, and you put a document down on the table and hold your device
above the document, it can create a shadow which impairs OCR. This is
something that might not occur to a blind person who might not understand
why they’re not getting any results.
He says it does work a good part of the time, although not flawlessly, even
if lighting is good and the document is flat, but with these kinds of
caveats you shouldn’t expect too much.

RE: KNFB Keeps throwing me out

2016-12-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I have a 6S Plus as well and this has never happened to me. I would delete KNFB
and reinstall it, I believe somebody else also mentioned that maybe because iut
does use a fair bit of resources (all the OCR is done on the phone and not in
the cloud) that it is a good idea to close some apps if you have many of them
open. I habitually close my apps throughout the day so I rarely have more than
2 or 3 of them open.

RE: getting started with knfb reader

2016-12-23 Thread Chip Orange
Hi Donald,

There's another OCR app, designed especially for the blind, which is free as
well. It's name is Braigo.

I haven't spent much time with it myself, but if KNFB isn't an option for you,
or you can't get it to work, I'd give this a try.

Hth,

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. So far none of them has helped.

Are there any good alternatives to knfb reader? I sometimes need to
read stuff when my wife is unavailable, and I thought I had heard good
things about this app.

Also any idea how to get my money back from the app store :) ?

RE: iPhone 7 lightening port and audio

2016-12-23 Thread Larry Lumpkin
I have played audio either through the shipped apple buds or through the
adaptor and have had the problem of the buds being dropped and sound falling
back to the speakers. I discovered that I wasn't charging the apple smart case
and when I solved that problem, I haven't had the bud problem since. I
discovered that I had to leave the phone on in locked mode and plugged into the
wall in order to charge both phone and case.

Hi Michael,

It may not have a trial version, but as you can tell from most replies people
get excellent results. I think Evan’s concerns which are based on one opinion
don’t hold too miuch water since almost everybody I know including myself get
fantastic results. You can always find examples where it may not work, the fact
is that for a blind user it is by far the best and most easy to use OCR app out
there. It seems to go on sale at least a couple of times a year so you have to
decide if you want to wait for one of these sales or if paying full price is
worth it to you. If you are not in a hurry I suggest you look for 20% deals on
iTunes gift cards, buy $60 or $80 worth of them and then when KNFB is on sale
buy it. If it goes on sale for 25% off and you use gift cards purchased at 20%
off you essentially get the app for almost half price.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi there,

Don't worry! You have not wasted your money! I have been using this app
since it came out and get brilliant results with it. I should say, perhaps, I
don't see at all, so am using the app without the benefit of a little vision. I
would say, to a new user, do the following:

1. Make sure that "tilt guidance" is turned on. This will ensure that you are
holding the phone nice and horizontal.

2. Make sure that "flash" is turned on, then you don't have to worry about
shadows etc. The only time you don't want flash is when shooting a PC display
screen.

3. Start by using a nicely printed sheet of text, just to simplify things.
place same on a table, position the phone, camera facing down, in the centre of
the paper (I can give you tips as to how to find the centre if you need help)
Make sure the phone is in portrait, reflecting the paper.

4. Lift the phone about a foot. The rule of thumb is: you need to lift the
phone, roughly, as high as the paper is long. If the tilt guidance is not
buzzing, press the down volume button and you should be hearing the text.

Things to avoid, don't put your fingers in the way of the camera aperture.
Don't worry about the 'field of status report" just take the shot!!

Good luck, and, I repeat, don't worry, this ia brilliant app, although I have
given these instructions and they may seem finicky, once you have some success,
you will do these things naturally, without thinking.

quite a bit further in price.

It’s pretty finicky about your stuff having to be flat for one thing, and

a light above it, say a chandelier above a table, as he has in his dining room,
and you put a document down on the table and hold your device above the
document, it can create a shadow which impairs OCR. This is something that
might not occur to a blind person who might not understand why they’re not

He says it does work a good part of the time, although not flawlessly, even
if lighting is good and the document is flat, but with these kinds of caveats
you shouldn’t expect too much.

RE: How do you uninstall scripts that work with iTunes and Jaws

2016-12-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi John,

You should be able to uninstall these via Programs and Features or the scripts
may have their own uninstaller in their programs folder. If you can’t get them
to go away you should maybe reach out to John via the BlindTunes website and
ask his advice. As Arnold said, if you removed Jaws and told it to remove your
user folder they should also be gone, but this of course is a pretty drastic
way since you will also delete all other user settings that way.

RE: getting started with knfb reader

2016-12-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

When you uninstalled it, did you uninstall your personal settings, too? I
remember that I had to uninstall everything related to jaws that it would let
me uninstall. Those scripts go into the jfw folder somewhere, so I would hope
uninstalling everything jaws says it can uninstall will work. If this doesn't
work, contact the blind tunes people and see what they say. I still think these
script writers should provide a way to uninstall them. Any other opinions on
this subject are welcome.

How much space was Voice Dream using before you deleted it and reinstalled it?
I have 176 items, some are files, most are books from BookShare and it is using

I have several third party voices.
Are you sure it was Voice Dream using all that space?
It could be that your phone was not properly managing the storage. Who knows.

Re: Restoring an unresponsive phone

I am using windows. Actually, I have removed and reinstalled all apple
products. I'm reluctant to try connecting the phone and repeating this
process again just because I don't want to have to head for the apple
store again if I can avoid it. However, thank you so much for your
gracious response.
I will add one detail. When a sighted person looked at the phone, it
was stuck at connect to iTunes. However, when I connected, the
computer did not see it. I suppose at one point I'll make sure I have
an appointment in place with apple and bite the pervervial bullet when
I try this again.
Thanks again as always, this is a fine list to be a part of.
In the meantime, I'm doing my backups through icloud with my iphone 6.

Re: getting started with knfb reader

2016-12-23 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone

Sandy.
