OK. I will see about writing the atbat folks. But for those folks who have the 
atbat app and have notifications active, have you found a way to get the 
individual video highlights that are pointed out in notifications? Thus far, 
when I go there, I double tap on things and I’m not getting any audio.

I'm not sure which bug they were referring to; but the one I'm still bothered 
by is still there.
When you turn the rotor to messages and flick down say to message 3 of 5, focus 
may jump back to message 1 or 2. It can take two or three tries to get the 
focus to stick on the third message; or the 5th out of 10 etc.

Exactly, it's all speculation and who cares. They announced it won't happen and 
that's that. All the speculation about people being upset and all that is also 
just over-rated. It's a very small percentage of all people who will be upset, 
they are the ones who keep tabs on this type of stuff. The other 95% or more 
probably don't even know Apple was working on this and happily go on with their 
lives.

I'm not sure Apple gets sued any more than the other big guys, and they bring 
their own share of law suits. Sounds to me like people are just feeling sorry 
for Apple. Remember, no one has provided any evidence that this product was 
dropped due to law suits, and the fact that it was delayed would indicate 
issues with supplies, quality or other technical difficulties.

No, if you’re talking about using a credit card with Apple Pay, you certainly 
can. I don’t even have a debit card in my Apple Pay wallet, but I do have two 
credit cards. And they both work so far as I know. I make fairly regular

credit card and gone through all that. Now what do I do to actually do the 
transaction? I have poked around in the  Wallet app and can’t figure it out.

Well, I don’t think I understand. Last year I had MLB TV through T-Mobile, just 
like I do this year. And last year I got these notifications for condensed 
games. And what you got when you hit the condensed game could be a mix of audio 
and video. Sometimes it wasn’t even your home team broadcaster. But at least it 
was there. Thus far, when I get a notification for something that’s going on in 
the game, and I go there, and it’s apparently a video, I can’t figure out how 
to play it. So altogether it’s kind of a bummer. And are you saying that in 
order to get the audio you have to have a separate subscription? I thought the 
TV subscription covered everything like it did last year. Color me confused.

bring their own share of law suits. Sounds to me like people are just 
feeling sorry for Apple. Remember, no one has provided any evidence that 
this product was dropped due to law suits, and the fact that it was 
delayed would indicate issues with supplies, quality or other technical 
difficulties.

somebody is getting condensed games, what you did to make that happen. I miss 
it. I went to bed yesterday, thinking my Dodgers were going to win, only to 
wake up and find out that they lost in extra innings game, and no way to get 
the audio highlights. Sure, I read the summary and dad gave me what I wanted to 
know. But I would still have liked to of had the audio highlights.

Also, comparing Voice Dream Scanner with Seeing AI is like comparing apples to
oranges.
Voice Dream scanner allows for multipage documents, you can save them as one
document, it is fast, accurate, and does it all on the phone.
Seeing AI; which is fantastic for some things, is not designed really as a one
function app, but a toolbox for multiple things.
I would use Seeing AI for product bar codes, wanting to know immediately what a
document is with the short text, and maybe a couple other things; but I would
never use it for multipage documents now that Voice Dream Scanner is available.
Seeing AI requires that you stop and share each document scan and then piece
them together later.

components to it, such as hand writing short tax documents product 
identification color identification and currency identification. Voice stream 
scanner is for reading documents it does not have all the other components, so 
they aren’t who totally different apps in that sense.

VoiceDream Scanner reads the whole page like Seeing AI does in document mode 
but VoiceDream does it faster and much more accurately.  It also keeps the 
information on your phone so things like credit card numbers are not shared 
with the world.  VoiceDream Scanner has been the only device that I have been 
able to read serial numbers off Braille Writers.  Before this I have been using 
one of the apps that call upon sighted readers. I am going to buy it tomorrow.  
Maybe even before that.

astronomical, especially after the Qualcom loss.


Patent owners have got to be looking to cash in, whether they have a claim

Pre-orders for Apple's second-generation AirPods have been shipping out over
the last few days and in-store stock also popped up yesterday. If you have
used the original AirPods, your new ones will default to the name "AirPods
#2." Follow along for how to rename AirPods.
The name of your AirPods will show up in Bluetooth settings for all of your
Apple devices, and also be seen on the Today View on iOS.
Whether you've used the first-generation AirPods and your new ones have
defaulted to the AirPods #2 name or you're totally new to AirPods, it's easy
to customize the name.
How to rename AirPods on iPhone and iPad

1.
Open Settings and tap Bluetooth

2.
Select circled "i" (info) to the right of your AirPods

3.
Tap Name, enter a new one, and tap Done

Notice something weird about your Apple Watch since updating to watchOS 5.2?
There's a software bug affecting the Explorer watch face on the latest Apple
Watch update.
The Explorer face, recognized for its bold red watch hands, is only
available on the cellular models of Apple Watch Series 3 and later; GPS-only
models and older watches don't feature the special analog watch face.
If you do have the Explorer face, you may notice that the minute and hour
numbers are missing since updating to this week's watchOS 5.2 software
update. The Explorer watch face is presented correctly in the Watch app on
the iPhone, but minuter and hour numbers have vanished on the actual watch
face running on the Apple Watch.
Since the Explorer watch face is still presented correctly on the iPhone's
Watch app, we can only assume this is a software bug and not a design
change. Comically, the second and third style of the Explorer face are
barely distinguishable without the optional hour numerals present.
Apple has a new watchOS software update shipping to developers today for
testing, version 5.2.1, so we'll dive in and see if the Explorer bug is
resolved in the new beta release.
In the meantime, you're not alone if your Explorer face lost its numbers.
The good news is that the watchOS update expands Apple's ECG app beyond the
US into Hong Kong and 19 countries across Europe.

Shortcuts 2.2 brings support for Apple Notes with handwriting recognition
The Shortcuts app has a few new features to make your experience better than
ever.

Apple has released version 2.2 of the Shortcuts app, bringing with it new
actions for the default Notes app, updates to the Travel Time and Adjust
Date action, adds support for Baidu Maps, and includes a number of smaller
features and some critical bug fixes.
Overall the update brings some much-need stability, a new set of tools for
everyday users to play around with and discover how to integrate into their
workflow, and opens up transportation automation for a huge subset of users
worldwide. Here's how.
Support for the Notes app
With the new support for Notes, users can use Create Note, Append to Note,
Find Notes, and Show Note in the course of their custom shortcuts, allowing
for programmatic interaction with the thoughts and ideas they've jotted
down.
It's now possible to create notes in the background without displaying the
Notes compose sheet, to add to the same note over and over with Append to
Note, to bring the text of your Notes into Shortcuts and act on them, and to
open Notes to any individual note that you're working with (used in
combination with one of the other three actions).
Plus, anytime you are working Notes content as a variable in Shortcuts, you
can tap on the variable to extract further details like only the body, the
Folder it resides in within the Notes app, and the Creation or Modification
date.
Even further, we've discovered that the Find Notes action brings in the full
text of anything that's been hand-written in your notes - as long as iOS can
recognize the word. This means that users of iPads and the Apple Pencil (or
with other styluses or using your finger on iPhone) can write things out by
hand, use Find Notes to grab that note, and copy out what they've written.
Previously it was only possible to search for Notes and have it return the
words it recognizes, but now that OCR (optical character recognition) works
in conjunction with the Shortcuts app, and any other potential endpoint it
can hook into. This is a huge leap for handwriting on iOS, because any
advanced support required third-party apps - and now, it can be scripted
into your shortcuts, and even triggered with Siri to grab that text out of a
note, which is pretty powerful stuff.

More actions and updates
Alongside the Notes actions, Apple added Get Numbers From Input, support for
Baidu maps, updates to the Travel Time action, and the addition of Get Start
of Calendar Week to the Adjust Date action.
Get Numbers From Input works as a way to find any values inside content and
extract just that data, ignoring all of the text or other information that's
non-numeric. Using this, people can scrape out information from inside
larger chunks of content, strip out the units for any measurements they
might be working with, and get just the numbers they might need. This action
drops in alongside other "Get  from Input" actions like those that grab
email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, dates, text, dictionaries, URLs,
addresses, and images too, which can be handy for information workflows.

Shortcuts has also added support for opening into Baidu Maps if you have it
installed, which means you can use the Show Directions action in either
Driving, Walking, Biking, or Transit mode. For the millions and millions of
Chinese users who rely on this for transportation, this is a huge boon for
their automation potential. Curiously, however, Baidu Maps isn't supported
within the Show in Maps action.

But for those using Apple Maps and the Get Travel Time action, there are
some welcome additions to the information provided. Beyond just getting the
total length of the trip, users can tap on any Travel Time variables and
further extract the Arrival Time, Route Name, and Distance to the
destination.
That means it's much easier to set up commuting shortcuts that tell your
family when you're getting home, or have Siri inform you which route to take
by asking the HomePod as you prepare to leave, or estimate how far it is
between two destinations.
And in a small but helpful update, the Adjust Date action can return the
start of the current week in addition the the start of the minute, hour,
day, and month. Previously it'd require fancy date and time math to
calculate when the previous Sunday is based off the current date, and now
it's a feature in the app.
While the usefulness of this depends on your needs, it means it's much
easier to build shortcuts that estimate weekly ranges - say you do a weekly
report and want the dates for Sunday and the next Saturday to display at the
top of your report, now you can Adjust Date set to Get Start of Current Week
and use another Adjust Date to add 6 days to it. Or you could curate a
weekly playlist in Apple Music with a nicely-formatted description
specifying the date range.

Scans are as good as originals for most purposes (but I have no idea how one 
would be able to judge in an accessible fashion!). you hadn't mentioned a 
particular weight goal, since you had spoken of printing and scanning, I 
suggested their MFC (multi-function copier) series.

 

As for snapshots, while some of the apps do a fairly acceptable job, it's 
fundamentally harder/less accurate to have to shoot at an angle and correct vs. 
the scanner having a truly flat scan surface. So if you are trying to eliminate 
paper, I'd go with a scanner.

 

if lightweight is critical, something like the Epson WorkForce ES-50 Portable 
Scanner may do the trick.

 

If you have a lot of paper to convert, Epson and Fujitsu make duplex scanners 
(that is, both sides of the page in one go). The Fujitsu ScanSnaps are highly 
rated, but run about $400-500 (new). For full sized paper, these are easier to 
use than flatbeds. However, if you are doing small paper (e.g. receipts) the 
flatbeds may be easier. But before destroying the originals, someone should 
verify that the scan is clear and readable ... and I have no idea how one would 
do that in a properly accessible manner.

 

Book pages are probably most easily captured with a manual scanning device 
(some are pretty inexpensive) but its pretty hard to ensure good results. I've 
got a small vuepoint https://www.vupointsolutions.com/magic-wand which *can* 
produce a good scan, but it takes good hand/eye coordination (and sometimes a 
couple of tries) so I'd rate it as probably a bad bet w.r.t. accessibility.

 

Meanwhile an architect friend says get rid of all paper. digitize everything. 
Are scans really that good or at least snapshots of anything you scan don't 
lie, do they? It's only if you need accurate optical recognition where it gets 
tricky.

Snaps usually can be spotted vs. a scanned image. If the goal is to have it 
look as much like the original as possible ... I'd avoid snaps. 

 

So, do you want/need a combined unit (printing/scanning)? Do you need color 
(print? scan??). Can you get by with only the normal operations being 
accessible? (having an assistant for the less common operations?). Do you have 
a ton of existing paper to convert, or just a document or two infrequently? If 
it's pretty infrequent, using a local Kinkos might not be a bad solution.

Hi,
I also have KNFB and just downloaded Voice DREAm Scanner. I also updated VDR. I 
am totally impressed with Voice Dream Scanner. I was worried that I would be 
disappointed because of all of the hype while it was in beta. Even on the KNFB 
list. In my opinion, after using Voice Dream Scanner on some difficult 
documents that even KNFB would not touch, Voice Dream Scanner is totally worth 
the hype.

I suspect it is a matter of hours before it will show up in those countries 
whose language uses Latin characters.
That is the only limitation he stated in the app description.

Thank you, Sieghard, for your reply.  You bring up a good point when
you mention how easy it could be for someone stealing a phone to gain
access to an account if the "comma pause" feature were to be
implemented.  This drawback coupled with the possible difficulty of
precisely managing the number of commas to be inserted before the
string of auto-dialed digits might well dissuade my friend from trying
the feature; but I'll tell him about it anyway.

AIRA is probably your best bet or maybe one of the apps that uses AI
could help some how. MMM I must admit I miss swimming. I plan on

I get that exact thing sometimes when listening to a YouTube video. I don’t 
know why it works that way sometimes and not others. It seems like it’s more 
likely when I click on a link within a Mail message and it begins to play in 
YouTube.

Hi all.  I’m hoping I can describe this in a way that makes sense.  
Occasionally my phone starts to vibrate in short vibration bursts.  This may go 
on for a minute or so and I can’t figure out what it means.  I close out all 
apps but the vibrations continue.  They’re almost like the vibrations when I 
get a call and the phone is muted, but I don’t see a missed call.  Any 
thoughts?  I’ve seen this 3 times in the last week or so. Thanks in advance.

everything I need to read except labels on cans, etc.  Actually, I am not sure

O, I thought you were looking for something to do OCR with your phone.
The Pearl camera doesn’t work with the phone does it?

You could use Jaws build-in Convenient OCR to capture the computer screen, 
right?

You no longer have to go through your Apple ID to deal with subscriptions
Open the App Store, double tap on my Account, and you will find a manage 
subscriptions.

It is purely designed to do documents.
You would need a tripod type stand like perhaps what Sieghard had recommended 
to focus on a monitor.

As far as I know, in order to use person-to-person money transfer, you must 
have a virtual Apple Cash card setup on your account.  

Also, unless I am mistaken, the recipient must also have Apple Pay Cash setup 
on her/his account.  

In order to setup the Apple Cash card, you must have 2-factor authentication 
enabled, for security purposes.

When the Apple Card is released, it will combine itself, Apple Pay, and the 
Apple Cash card into some kind of cohesive unit.

Keep in mind that in order to setup the virtual cash card, you may have to 
provide your social security number and other personal info for identity 
verification.

AIRA is probably your best bet or maybe one of the apps that uses AI
could help some how. MMM I must admit I miss swimming. I plan on

This is actually not neat, it's about time because I always thought it was 
incredibly ridiculous for Apple, who always claims to put such focus on

on a mini cassette tape. I never used this feature and would use WhatsApp 
instead because at least my recording was high quality.

I got the AirPods 2 a few days ago, and to be honest it doesn't affect me 
negatively not to have the wireless charger. if anything, I move around a lot, 
so both classic and wireless methods of charging require a cable of some sort. 
having a cable that works also as my iphone charger makes it simpler, less 
clutter etc.


The airpod2 are quite faster in connecting and the sound is much better both 
volume and quality, so I'm quite happy with this purchase :)

some people do, but it's just a product from Apple. Apple still supports 
wireless charging on their latest iPhones. IMHO, the fact that Apple

No, if you’re talking about using a credit card with Apple Pay, you certainly

The other thing to check is to make sure your phone is not in fact muted, since 
you described the problem as if it is acting like a call coming in when the 
phone is muted.  

 

The mute switch could easily get bumped if you don’t have the phone in a case, 
or if the case you have leaves it exposed.  The case on my 8 Plus has a door I 
have to open to access the mute switch.  I frequently bumped the mute switch 

On the 5S I used to have, even with a case.

Janet did use another phone to call herself on the Xr phone, and the call did 
come through though.
apple pay requires an update, if you see your iPhone can't use apple pay until 
it has been updated, you will need to update.  If you restore or erase your 
phone you might not be able to activate your device if you see these alerts, 
you will need to take your device to an apple store.
Janet did check Apple pay through settings, and the message from that says; 
I've reached the maximum of 12 cards, and I will need to remove at least one 
card before I can add another one.  Janet says I had only one card added to 
Apple pay though.

Digital Signature

Hello,

 

I have recently started working for a company in which I need to submit
monthly reports that I will have to sign. Does anyone no if there is an iOS
app that is accessible for signing my reports? I know that DocuSign is out
there and that it is probably the most used app for this, but I have tried
to use this with Voice Over and it doesn't seem to be fully accessible,
unless I am doing something wrong.

 

Any suggestions for this type of task will be greatly appreciated.

odd vibration happening

Hi all.  I’m hoping I can describe this in a way that makes sense.
Occasionally my phone starts to vibrate in short vibration bursts.  This may
go on for a minute or so and I can’t figure out what it means.  I close out
all apps but the vibrations continue.  They’re almost like the vibrations
when I get a call and the phone is muted, but I don’t see a missed call.
Any thoughts?  I’ve seen this 3 times in the last week or so. Thanks in

No, if you’re talking about using a credit card with Apple Pay, you certainly 
can. I don’t even have a debit card in my Apple Pay wallet, but I do have two 
credit cards. And they both work so far as I know. I make fairly regular 
purchases with one of them.

You no longer have to go through your Apple ID to deal with subscriptions
Open the App Store, double tap on my Account, and you will find a manage 
subscriptions.
But calling Apple Accessibility is the best thing to do when things don't make 
sense like this.

I know how to manage my subscriptions in the itunes and appstore clicking and 
activating my own appleid.

I’ve been using my iphone for 5 years now and in that time I have signed up for
