Re: notifications repeating

2019-12-19 Thread Nicola Sanders
Re the scrub gesture: Keep in mind that it can be a very small movement, and
certainly doesn't have to cover much of the screen area at all. I place two
fingertips close together, anywhere on the screen, and make a quick "right left
right" movement, with both fingers moving together. It's just as if I were
trying to scrub something clean. As Sieghard said, it doesn't have to be right
left right, it can be down up down, left right left, etc. No need to make a
zigzag, I usually move my fingers over the same area with each of the three
parts of the quick movement. it's just a straight line: right left right, in my
case. The main thing to remember is that it's a short, quick, compact gesture.
Hope I haven't confused things even more and that this message helps someone.
If not, feel free to scrub it.
Best,
Nicky

if you are near your phone when the notification comes in you can swipe down
with one finger until you hear dismiss. it is when you are doing something
else and are not able to get to your phone that it drives you round the bend.

RE: notifications repeating

2019-12-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It’s not done in any corner of the screen and in fact it’s probably one of the
most forgiving gestures because you can do it just about any which way as long
as you move 2 fingers across the screen in a zigzag or Z-shaped sort of way.
Start left to right, right to left, up and down, down and up, it all works.

The scrub gesture is done in the left corner of the screen. It is a three line
movement back and forth. I have done it successfully only about 4 times. That
is why I changed the scrub to another gesture which we can do in 13.3. I now
tap with 3 fingers 3 times and the scrub is done and the notification is gone.
Works beautifully with the new gesture, but I sure couldn't do it with the
gesture Apple gave it.

Do a sort of zigzag gesture like the letter Z
It is done with 2 fingers on the screen, I usually start near the top left, I
move both fingers to the right, then back over to the left and down and back
over to the right.
Instead of left to right, back to the left and right again you can also do it
up and down:
Start near the bottom left, move two fingers up the screen, then back down a
bit diagonally and back up
Or start near the top, move them down, back up diagonally and back down.
Just go into the gesture practice area and practice it until you get it right,
it’s not so hard.
Or of course now in iOS 13 you could assign a different gesture to it.

Yes, you need to install the version through the Microsoft Store.
Easiest way is to open a browser, go to Google and search for “iCloud for
Windows on Microsoft Store”.
But, here is also a direct link, this opens the US Microsoft Store, but that is
the website not the actual store.
Look for the “Get” button, once you activate it you will be asked to open the
Microsoft Store app, click Yes or Allow or whatever it says.

Get iCloud for
Windows

I should warn you that I am experiencing a problem with the Photos download
which you may or may not experience.
I have my default Pictures folder which is normally under your user name
redirected to point to a Pictures folder I have in my OneDrive folder.
In iCloud the folder path given for downloading photos is for the iCloud Photos
folder in OneDrive\Pictures, but I get two error messages as follows:

My Photo Stream can’t be updated.. iCloud Photos can’t update because you don’t
have permission to add files to the download folder. Open iCloud to pick a new
folder…
The upload folder for iCloud Photos is missing.. The upload folder for iCloud
Photos has been moved or deleted.

I spend quite a bit of time on the phone with a very helpful person from Apple
Accessibility who connected to my computer, but she also could not figure this
out. I also tried to pick a different folder, I created an iCloud folder just
in my Downloads folder, and when I pointed the app to that folder it gave me
the same error message.

Michael,

Could you explain what it is you want to do with iCloud Control Panel?
Do you use Windows 10 or are you still on Windows 7? If Windows 10, then which
version of iCloud did you install, there is a desktop version and a Windows
Store version. You need the Windows Store version, it is more or less
accessible.
I should mention that I use Jaws, I have no idea how well it would work with
NVDA.

I hope someone knows. I uninstalled it because it ended up dragging down my
system with its continuous running in the background along with being useless.

Re: notifications repeating

2019-12-19 Thread regina alvarado
The scrub gesture is done in the left corner of the screen. It is a three line
movement back and forth. I have done it successfully only about 4 times. That
is why I changed the scrub to another gesture which we can do in 13.3. I now
tap with 3 fingers 3 times and the scrub is done and the notification is gone.
Works beautifully with the new gesture, but I sure couldn't do it with the
gesture Apple gave it.

Hi have any of your out hear noticed since the latest update of IO'S 13.3.

That your battery goes A bit faster then it did in the past version.

I am running the iPhone 10 XR and since i have upgraded with the latest update
of IOS 13.

May battery seems to go faster then it did before.

I didn't change any settings on my phone so should I go and get the iPhone 11
witch has A bigger battery or will my battery improve over time?

Now witch of the I phone 11s has the biggest battery and how much more time
does that batter give you then the one that is in the 10 XR?

RE: Why do you use the outlook for IOS ap?

2019-12-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Maybe I have to give it another go and see how I like it now.
As far as 2-factor authentication is concerned you can still enable this for
your Outlook.com account or even your work exchange account. I have 2-factor
authentication enabled for both my personal Outlook.com account and my Office
365 exchange business account and all I have to do is generate some app
specific passwords to use for the Mail app.

I switch to Outlook for IOS three years ago for my work account. We were
required to do so for security reasons. Outlook for IOS works with 2factor
authentication whereas the IOS Mail app does not. Since then, I can say that I
prefer Outlook because that is what I use at work on the PC and at home. I set
up a separate account in Outlook for Windows for my personal account. When you
do this, a separate inbox is set up in Outlook to receive all personal emails
designated for that account. Outlook sets up a complete new set of
corresponding folders for that inbox. You will have a separate Sent items,
Trash, Drafts, and a spam folder.

Ah, thanks for the responses. I had no idea what a focused inbox was.
Honestly, I, too, would prefer seeing all my e-mails, and generally enjoy the
native app.

My issue with the native app is that for my personal e-mail address, where I'm
subscribed to a bunch of mailing lists, I'm ok with my messages being threaded,
whereas with my work inbox, I actually prefer them not to be. As far as I know,
this level of customization is not yet available.

RE: the latest version of IOS 13 and battery drain

2019-12-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
All you have to do is go to Settings > General > Reset (at the very bottom).
Double tap on Reset and then flick until you hear "Reset Network Settings" and
double tap.
You will be asked to confirm, after you do your phone will restart.
Once your phone has rebooted and you put in your PIN you have to do 2 things:
1. Go to Settings > General > About and you will see your iPhone's name is now
simply "iPhone". Double tap on the name and change it to whatever you want such
as "Reggie's iPhone" or "My iPhone" or whatever, once done tap the "Done button
at the bottom right of the keyboard and you are good to go.
2. A Reset Network Settings will wipe out all Wi-fi passwords. You have to go
to Settings > WiFi and reconnect to your WiFi by tapping on it and entering
it's password. If you regularly go to other places where you had been connected
to WiFi like at the house of a friend or family member then you will also have
to reconnect to the WiFi there.

That's it. I also suggest you close all apps from the app switcher before you
do the Reset Network Settings.

Best regards,
Sieghard

I have a question Sieghardt. I have noticed the same battery life issue. If I
reset my phone what do I need to have to reset my the settings for my network
correctly? I have never done this and I am uncomfortable. However, I think it
needs to be done. It went to 50 percent from being at 100 percent last night.A

There are so many factors affecting battery drain, just wait it out, you could

In the beginning mine did not drain any faster, but I've noticed this week that
it has been draining a little faster. Last night when I was asleep I saw
battery use of two percent per hour. So not sure what's going on with that.

I have been using the iPhone for 10 years.
I have never been able to figure out how to use the scrub gesture.

Wayne, just do the scrub gesture and the notification will disappear. I made a
new gesture as the scrub I never had success with. I just tap 3 times with 3
fingers and it's gone. Still if not at my phone it will just keep on repeating
so I just put in another request they fix because of that. The person

Michael,

Could you explain what it is you want to do with iCloud Control Panel?

Do you use Windows 10 or are you still on Windows 7? If Windows 10, then which
version of iCloud did you install, there is a desktop version and a Windows
Store version. You need the Windows Store version, it is more or less
accessible.

I should mention that I use Jaws, I have no idea how well it would work with
NVDA.

For all who hate these recurring notifications, call Accessibility. If they get
enough crabbiness they'll tell engineering to do something. Crabbing here does
not fix the problem! They gave me a workaround which does work, but I told them
it needs to go back the way it used to be. If we all call they will have to
find a solution.

RE: Reminders: Complete Guide to iOS 13, MacRumors

Reminders: Complete Guide to iOS 13

The Reminders app has never been one of the most popular built-in apps, mostly
due to its limited functionality in comparison with other reminder and to-do
apps available from the App Store.

In iOS 13, Apple overhauled the interface of the Reminders app, adding a new
look and new capabilities that may encourage more people to check it out. In
this guide, we'll go over all of the new features in the Reminders app and what
it can do in iOS 13 and iPadOS.

Design
Reminders in iOS 12 and earlier offered a simple no-frills list-style view that
organized items by list, but iOS 13 has an entirely new interface that's more
intuitive. There are four main Reminders sections, which incorporate all of
your reminders across all of your lists so you can see everything that you need
to do in one view, whether it's for work or family.

There's a "Today" section for reminders that need to be addressed immediately,
a "Scheduled" section for reminders that have a date attached, an "All" section
for viewing everything all at once, and a "Flagged" section for your reminders
that have a flag added to separate them out.

Along with the four main sections where you can access all of your reminders
organized into different views, you can also see your content organized per
list using the "My Lists" section. You can use Reminders in either dark mode or
light mode, and there are unique looks for both.

Lists and Reminders
As with the previous version of Reminders, you can make as many lists as you
need in the Reminders app. You can have separate lists for family, friends,
work, and whatever other topics you want.

If you want to keep track of all the household chores you need to do along with
your grocery list and your work projects, the Reminders app can handle that.
Adding a list is as simple as tapping on the "Add List" button.

All of your lists are displayed individually in the "My Lists" section, while
the individual reminders in that list are also available in the different
sections of the Reminders app.

Adding a reminder to a list can be done by tapping into a list and then tapping
on the the "New Reminder" button, or by tapping into the Today, Scheduled, or
Flagged categories at the top of the app and then choosing "New Reminder."

Ultimately, adding, organizing, and accessing lists is a more intuitive in iOS
13 than it was in iOS 12. Reminders located in the Scheduled tab and the Today
tab are organized by date and time, but there are no manual sorting tools to
allow for different organization.

Customization
The Reminders app in iOS 13 adds new customization options to your Reminders
list. There are additional colors to choose from to color code your lists, and
there are also new icons that you can assign to each list for a visual cue.

There are all kinds of icons to choose from, including food, sports,
work-related icons, shapes, and more.
. How to Customize the Look of Your Reminders Lists in iOS

Reminders Toolbar
When creating a reminder in the Reminders app in iOS 13, there's a new quick
access toolbar that lets you add times, locations, and more to your reminders.
There are four available icons, each with a different function:
. Clock - Lets you schedule a reminder for today, tomorrow, this
weekend, or a custom date.
. Arrow - Lets you set a reminder to activate when you're arriving
home, getting in the car, getting out of the car, or arriving to any custom
location that you choose.
. Flag - Lets you add a flag to a reminder so it's easier to locate.
. Camera - Allows you to take a photo to add to a reminder, add a
photo from the Photo Library, or scan a document. Adding attachments to
Reminders is new in iOS 13.

Reminders can also be annotated with notes and URLs to provide additional
context, and each reminder can also have subtasks associated with it.
Reminders can also be set to repeat, and you can adjust the priority for each
one, choosing between Low, Medium, High, or None.

Accessing all of the Reminder options can be done when tapping on the "Custom"
option when setting a time or a date for a newly created reminder or by tapping
on the "i" icon on an already existing reminder. Some of these

authentication whereas the IOS Mail app does not.

Re: Why do you use the outlook for IOS ap?

2019-12-19 Thread Jim Fettgather
In the Outlook for IOS app, you may have conversation view disabled,
so that you have individual messages.
I find the Calendar to be highly superior, as when you tap the
Calendar Tab, you can just flick up with one finger, and all events
are read beautifully.
And, for even more fun, if you have an Office 365 account, you may now
enable Cortana, tap on Play my Emails, and Cortana will gladly read
you your messages, pausing long enough for you to skip to the next
message, or reply to the current one.
You cannot at this time send a new message using Cortana.
Thanks.

Re: the latest version of IOS 13 and battery drain

2019-12-19 Thread regina alvarado
I have a question Sieghardt. I have noticed the same battery life issue. If I
reset my phone what do I need to have to reset my the settings for my network
correctly? I have never done this and I am uncomfortable. However, I think it
needs to be done. It went to 50 percent from being at 100 percent last night.A

In the beginning mine did not drain any faster, but I've noticed this week that
it has been draining a little faster. Last night when I was asleep I saw
battery use of two percent per hour. So not sure what's going on with that.

RE: Why do you use the outlook for IOS ap?

2019-12-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
We are all different, focused Inbox which is supposed to learn what is
important and not hides certain emails and replaces the Clutter feature in
Outlook which I also never liked. I make a special point to ensure it is turned
off, but as I said, we are all different and I personally want to see all my
emails in my Inbox and deal with them personally. In the same way I also don’t
like unified Inboxes, I have 2 accounts set up on my iPhone, personal and
business, and I much prefer it to look at my two Inboxes separately rather then
to have all new emails show up in one Inbox.
As for threading, Chermeen, why not use this feature with the native Mail app,
it works well and as I said in my reply to Janet, I like Outlook on my PC, but
never found it superior to the Mail app on iOS. But you should try for yourself
and as I also said, it’s been a few years since I tried to use it so I’m sure
it’s changed since then as well.

Hi there,
For those of you who use this app, can I ask why? what advantages to
you find that this app has over the native mail app? One of the
reasons I am thinking of getting it is so that I can have my messages
threaded in my native mail personal account, while viewing them as
un-threaded in outlook, but that on its own doesn't feel like a very
good reason.

Anyway, I'm interested in your thoughts.

RE: Outlook For iOS Question Please.

2019-12-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I assume you double tap on the message? As a work-around, why not just forward
the message to your friend or, if he or she is there with you, turn off
Voiceover and let them tap on the message although I am not sure why doubling
tapping on the message wouldn't display it on the screen as it does in the Mail
app.
I am a big fan of Outlook and use Outlook.com email addresses and all that, but
while it's been a few years since I tried Outlook for iOS, I just never found
it necessary since the Mail app works so well and I like the workflow of the
Mail app better.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Outlook For iOS Question Please.

Hi Everyone,
Can someone please tell me how I can let a sighted friend look at a particular
email on my Xr iPhone? I use Outlook for iOS, and I want a sighted person to
see an email, but when I show my friend the Outlook inbox, they see only maybe
about 5 or 6 emails, in which is not the particular email I want to show them.
Although, VO reads me the particular email and many more. I've looked in the
Outlook for iOS app on my phone, and I don't see anything that would be related
to my issue, and I've also looked in settings, as well as in the display
option, but again, I can't seem to find anyway to have Outlook to show all
messages.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Janet

Peace Be With You.

For me, its the focused inbox feature. Upon setting it up you may need to train
the app but anything to filter down my inbox is greatly appreciated.

Get Outlook for iOS

Hi there,
For those of you who use this app, can I ask why? what advantages to
you find that this app has over the native mail app? One of the
reasons I am thinking of getting it is so that I can have my messages
threaded in my native mail personal account, while viewing them as
un-threaded in outlook, but that on its own doesn't feel like a very
good reason.

Anyway, I'm interested in your thoughts.

Strange problem with announce messages and AirPods pro

Sent from my iPhoneWhile using my new AirPods pro, I received an iMessage,
which was read out to me. Unfortunately, it was read out really quietly, much
more quietly than voiceover or Siri would normally be. Has anybody else
