RE: Waltr2

2020-02-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Even with iTunes WiFi connectivity is flaky at best and very slow. Always liked
the idea as well of my iPhone being able to sync with iTunes (even before it
more or less didn't become necessary any more), but it never really worked and
I wonder how good WiFi connectivity is through Waltr2.

As someone else pointed out, you do have to connect the phone first before the
other controls will appear. However, can anyone show me how to set up the wi-fi
transfer? That is a nifty little feature I would love to utilize since my
iPhone uses a smart case that requires disassembling in order to plug directly
to the computer. Thank you guys for all your help.

Re: iMessages question

2020-02-20 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
I just wanted to reply once again to
that which Richard pointed out.  So often we think we shouldn't
report something to Apple because what if it's only happening to
us or conversely what if others have reported it already then we
maybe shouldn't or don't have to do so. I just reported this
issue to Apple and it was easily replicated by the agent on his
device and when he checked the system it was a known issue Apple
was investigating but he added my case to the ticket so as to
give the issue more weight. So if anyone else can replicate this
issue please join me in reporting it to Apple so this
functionality we formerly had can hopefully be restored.
Thanks.
Robin

Re: Waltr2

2020-02-20 Thread Richard Turner
Because it isn't a replacement as much as a supposedly better interface, but
Apple isn't going to allow someone direct access to their devices, so I'm
fairly sure WALTR2 does everything through iTunes in the background.

Walter2 is accessible and working with the latest jaws. You need to have your
phone connected to the PC first and if prompted let your PC be a trusted
device. Than you should have no issues.

Hi, I purchased Waltr2 on Jonathan Mosen’s recommendation on a recent podcast.
I couldn’t get the trial version to work, so I decided to take a risk and
upgrade to the full version. The software still does not work with JAWS. I’m on
the latest build of Windows 10, and for whatever reason when I tab around the
screen, the only thing I can activate is the main sub menu with items like
About, Check for Updates, Support, etc. What are other people doing to make
this thing work? On the podcast, Jonathan was tabbing about just fine through
the various controls. I’m highly interested in replacing iTunes as a file
transfer source, so any suggestions on how to crack this accessibility issue
would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!--Joe

Re: Apple Watch reading books

2020-02-20 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Ann,

Not BARD, but if you add books to the reading list in Voice Dream Reader, you
can listen to them on the watch. This only works with text-based books, such as
those from Bookshare, not audiobooks.

Best,
Anna

RE: Amazon Music App Issue:

2020-02-20 Thread Alan Lemly
Yes, I've dealt with the Amazon Music app steep decline in volume by removing
its access to the microphone. Of course, this removes access to Alexa with the
app but it corrects the volume issue and since I don't use Alexa with the
Amazon Music app, it works well for me.

Have that a lot. Usually, like you, I can start music and all sound comes
right. Sometimes it does after a little time even if I don't start music. I
think the best way to deal with this is to have a piece of music open and start
playing it by opening and using a two finger double tap. This assumes the app
is in the app switcher and not really closed. Once music plays, everything
works fine.
Frustrating, but that's how it is, and you're not alone. On Feb 20, 2020 1:51

Re: YouPlayer

2020-02-20 Thread Duane Steele
I also liked theYouPlayer APP. But perhaps the developer felt we could
navigate YouTube without it. When it really worked, it was really great for
searching YouTube content and refining our searches. I truly can't recall when
it was last updated, and I couldn't get it to work at all when I redownloaded
it just a short time ago. I wish there was another option. But there doesn't
seem to be one.

Re: YouPlayer

2020-02-20 Thread Kay Malmquist
I'm still using it. The search field is a bit flaky, but you can get it to
work. It does look as though it is being discontinued because more and more
things are coming up with errors and it is not because they aren't there.
This is a real shame because I liked that app for its simplicity.

Karen, I suspect that the youPlayer APP has been discontinued because it
doesn't work for me, either, and because it hasn't been updated in ages,
whereas, over recentmonths, YouTube itself has undergone a number of
updates. As frustrating as YouTube can be, it seems to be the only game in
town anymore, in a manner of speaking. I could be wrong, and if I am, I'll
bow to those more knowledgeable on such subjects. Meantime, good luck, and,
if you find a way to use youPlayer, let us know. I liked the APP when it
worked properly.

I use an excel spreadsheet on my computer because I can hear the column title

I wish Numbers or Excel for iOS would do that.

Your phone screen is gross. Here's how to clean it These techniques are the
absolute best to keep your iPhone or Android screen smudge-free.
First Posted: August 31, 2019 6:00 AM PDT CNET editors pick the products &
services we write about. When you buy through our links, we may get a
commission.

Make sure you're cleaning your phone the right way.
Smudges and grime cling to your phone's screen. It's really disgusting, but
most of us have learned to live with the grease because keeping phone screens
clean is hard. Maybe you'll give it a cursory wipe on your jeans or the hem of
your shirt, but that won't really get the screen clean. The best approach isn't
hard, and will only cost you a few bucks.
On the flip side, there are the cleaning agents and techniques that you never
want to use, because -- although you might initially see good results
-- they can be too harsh and damage the screen you're working so hard to
protect.
We're going to tell you which products to avoid, and the best ways to clean off
fingerprint smudges, sand and lint from the ports, tenacious makeup off the
screen (hint: never with makeup remover) and even disinfect your phone after
contact with raw meat while you're cooking. We also tell you how to care for
phones rated for water-resistance.
Note that CNET may get a share of revenue from the sale of the products
featured on this page.

We're not here to shame you, but drop that bottle of Windex, stat. This is how
not to clean your screen.
Window cleaner
You clean your mirrors and windows with window cleaner, and they're squeaky
clean, so it must be OK to use on your phone? Wrong! Some newer phones, such as
the iPhone XR ( $749 at Amazon ), have a protective coating that resists water
and oil, which can wear out over time.
Using harsh cleaners can strip the coating and could leave your phone more
vulnerable to scratches. James LeBeau, an associate professor of materials
science and engineering at MIT, told us that any cleanser with an abrasive
agent will likely scratch the surface, so those should be avoided entirely.
Kitchen cleaners
A screen's scratch-resistant properties won't get ground down by cleaning
agents, but stripping that protective coating is still a problem. That's why
Apple also suggests not using household cleaning products to clean your iPhone.
Bar Keepers Friend, for example, states that its abrasive formula may harm the
protective layer. Bon Ami states not to use on glass with coatings.

Paper towels
They may be the go-to for cleaning your desk, but keep them away from your
phone. The paper can shred, making the debris on your phone much worse.
Paper towels can even end up leaving scratches on your screen.
Rubbing alcohol
Since many newer phones have a protective coating, rubbing alcohol can wear it
away quicker over time, causing your phone to be more prone to scratches.
Make sure to check for alcohol in product ingredients on any "safe to use"
phone screen cleaners. Apple says to avoid alcohol when cleaning its devices.
Makeup remover
Some makeup removers may have chemicals that can be harsh to an electronic
screen. LeBeau suggests avoiding makeup remover and instead use a soft cloth
with a little bit of water.

Compressed air
Your phone is delicate, so blowing an intense amount of air into its portals
can cause some damage, specifically to your mic. Tech companies, like Apple,
specifically warn not to use compressed air.
Dish soap and hand soap
While your dish and hand soaps may be gentle, the only way to use them is to
combine them with water. Most phone companies suggest to keep water away from
your phone, so again, stick to a damp cloth.
Vinegar
This is a no-no. Vinegar will strip the screen's coating. You could, as
Lifehacker suggests, use a very diluted vinegar to cleanse other parts of your
phone. Android Central suggests a 50/50 mix with distilled water for cleaning
the sides and back.
Disinfectant wipes
The warning label on these reminds you to wash your hands after each use, so
using them to clean something that touches your face often isn't a great idea.
According to MIT's LeBeau, these wipes typically contain alcohol that will
strip off the oleophobic (oil-repellant) and hydrophobic
(water-repellent) coatings.

How to clean fingerprint smudges from your screen Fingerprint smudges are hard
to prevent because your skin constantly produces oils. That means that every
time you pick up your phone, it's bound to get fingerprints all over it.
The safest and most effective way to clear your screen is with a microfiber
cloth. If the screen is in desperate need of cleaning, use distilled water to
dampen the microfiber cloth and then wipe down your screen --

One way of doing this would be to buy an iPhone, take it to a repair
shop and simply instruct them to remove the cameras. Remember of
course that you'd loos access to functionality such as Face ID though.

RE: IPhone without camera

2020-02-20 Thread Carolyn
Yes, Richard, I really doubt that there is any phone now without a camera,
other than an old land line phone. We saw one today at the Salvation Army Store
for $9.99.

And, BTW, I bought a 5 volt wireless charger for 99 cents? We think it could
have been tagged wrong, but it charged my phone big as life. So, now, I have
one by my living room chair and one by my computer here.

You will not find any smart phones without cameras.
You may be able to find a flip phone without a camera but I doubt it.
Have you tried a web search for cell phone without a camera?

iPhone uses a smart case that requires disassembling in order to plug directly

Re: YouPlayer

2020-02-20 Thread Duane Steele
Karen, I suspect that the youPlayer APP has been discontinued because it
doesn't work for me, either, and because it hasn't been updated in ages,
whereas, over recentmonths, YouTube itself has undergone a number of updates.
As frustrating as YouTube can be, it seems to be the only game in town anymore,
in a manner of speaking. I could be wrong, and if I am, I'll bow to those more
knowledgeable on such subjects. Meantime, good luck, and, if you find a way to
use youPlayer, let us know. I liked the APP when it worked properly.

Peace & Blessings,

Re: App to track books you read

2020-02-20 Thread Richard Turner
For those of us who are not into the social network thing, it looks like with
Good Reads you can make everything private.
I use an excel spreadsheet on my computer because I can hear the column title
as I move across a row.
I wish Numbers or Excel for iOS would do that.

Re: IPhone without camera

It would help if we knew why you wanted a smart phone without a camera.
This information may also be useless, but you could get a smart phone
and just put some tape or a case over the camera lens. I know people who
do this with the camera lens on their laptops.

The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.

If you have any questions or concerns about

RE: Call’s seem to be timing out

2020-02-20 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Then I’d suggest talking to the person your calling and see what it is they are
doing / possibly doing at the time the call goes dead.

To me it’s a them rather than a you issue.

Actually just thinking about it,

Are these calls to the same person each time?

Could the person / people your talking to have issues at their end rather than
you at yours?

The reason I ask is that you say the call ends so I assume you can hear it end
when it does.

Well, the only other thing I could think of is to take your phone to an Apple
Store to get it thoroughly diagnosed to see if it has a problem with the
hardware.
Good luck,

Richard;
I’ve done all of the above.
I even have a network extender that connects to my Wi-Fi.
I just can’t figure this out.
I’ve called Apple Accessibility and I’ve called Verizon as well.
However I can’t seem to stay on the call scoring enough to diagnose it.
Please help thanks

Have you checked your cellular bars at the top of the screen?
If they drop to 1, you likely will not be able to stay on a call.
Or, have you called either Verizon customer service, or Apple Accessibility to
try and sort out what is happening?

Hi everyone;
I am having a problem which is really baffling me.
When I am on calls on my iPhone 11 pro after a few minutes The calls go silent.
I turned Wi-Fi calling off and that seemed to help.
However now I don’t know what is going on but after about two minutes the
callsjust go silent and eventually the call disconnects.
Please help?
