RE: what's the diffrence between photos and live photos?

2021-11-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Mich, once again a perfect question for Google with a short and to the point
answer as the first search result:

With Live Photos, your iPhone records what happens 1.5 seconds before and after
you take a picture. You take a Live Photo just like you do a traditional photo.
Then you can pick a different key photo, add a fun effect, edit your Live
Photo, and share with your family and friends.

Subject: what's the diffrence between photos and live photos?

Hi all the question about the person taking a pick of there passport page makes
me wonder what’s the difference between taking a photo and a live photo? Since
I have like 544 photos I know I need to really cleen it up on my phone and some
of them are just photos and others are live photos and I am wondering about the
difference. Also labeling photos has always been a bit of a challinge I know
there is a way to do it and I have tried clicking on the 3 finger triple tap
hearing the 3 toans and then labeling the elliment but I have found that when I
go back into the photos or camra wrole it doesn’t always add a description of
what the photo is. Since not all of the photos on my phone are labled. From
Mich.

Subject: iOS 15 Broke My Weight scale

Hi All:
Well I”ve been pretty fortunate until now. I purchased the Beats blu scale some
years ago and although it has been long gone from the App Store, it has
continued to work fairly well. I decided yesterday to update to iOS 15, and
that’s the end of that for my poor scale app.
The scale works wonderfully of course, but absolutely no good to me.
So what are people currently using that works with iOS 15? I thought about
purchasing the Withings scale which has been around a long time and probably
still gets updates, but I’m open for comments on that or other options.
I do need to resolve this soon so all suggestions welcome. Accessibility is
more important than price, and the most important is that perhaps it’s still
getting actual updates and might be supported a while.

RE: Where Is the Photo of My Passport Page?

2021-11-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you simply took a photo with the back camera it would just be a photo. If
you had tapped the "Photo Viewer" button in the camera app the last photo is
what would have been displayed.
If you go into Photos I usually tap on the Album tab at the bottom and then go
into "Recent Photos" near the top, this displays all my pictures and I can then
start from the bottom again and find the latest photo which you can identify by
the date and time when it was taken since I assume you know roughly at what
time you took the photo.

Yes, that sorted it out. Applying the same settings to both Big Ben and

This is an excellent set of instruction that may help with other apps too to

Re: iOS 15 Broke My Weight scale

2021-11-02 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

Again I don't have this scale but do have their blood pressure monitor
and if it's any indication set up  was easy as can be and was
accessible. There was one point at which I had to briefly turn on screen
recognition to find a register button. But that was the only momentary
hurtle.

It connects to the phone via bluetooth. You mentioned wi-fi I didn't
read the documentation for the scale but thought it connected the same
way but perhaps I'm wrong.  If it does however you shouldn't have any
issues. When you first open the app it'll ask you which device you have,
walk you through setting up an account with them and then there's
usually a tutorial walking you through set up and first usage.

I hope that helps.

Take good care.

Yeah this is interesting. The last time I looked for this scale it was

that's a good sign. Of course it costs more than everything else, but
I also like that it has the rechargeable battery which seems to only
require an annual charge.
If anyone does have this, how easy was it to set upt he WIFI portion

Well I”ve been pretty fortunate until now. I purchased the Beats blu
scale some years ago and although it has been long gone from the App
Store, it has continued to work fairly well. I decided yesterday to
update to iOS 15, and that’s the end of that for my poor scale app.

The scale works wonderfully of course, but absolutely no good to me.

So what are people currently using that works with iOS 15? I thought
about purchasing the Withings scale which has been around a long time
and probably still gets updates, but I’m open for comments on that or
other options.

I do need to resolve this soon so all suggestions welcome.
Accessibility is more important than price, and the most important is
that perhaps it’s still getting actual updates and might be supported
a while.

This is so interesting. My husband holds the primary Amazon prime membership
for our house and added me as a household member. We were frustrated the
other night because a movie I bought on my account wasn’t showing up on our
firestick. I wonder if this is the way to share it. Here is what I have found
so far:

Using the Amazon app:

1. Click on Your Amazon tab in bottom of app.
2. Click on Your Account.
3. Scroll down and click on Manage Your Household
4. Click on Manage Your Family Library
5. A section opens with checkboxes for the categories my husband is
sharing with me and what I am sharing with him. There is also a link that says
we should go to in order to Manage content and devices to control sharing of
individual titles.

The checkboxes are not labelled up well, so I’m not sure what to click. I also
do not see a place to share the digital movies I have purchased, so I’m stuck
here a bit. This is where I would probably call Amazon Accessibility. I just
tried the Managed content and devices link and that was an even more confusing
area. I can find the movie I want to share with my husband, but no option to
share it. Seems like sharing books is more straight-forward. Good luck!

Based on the above, I would think that your wife needs to go to this section
and allow sharing of her books with you. Not sure what it looks like from
there. My husband doesn’t do digital books, so I cannot test it.

Subject: Amazon Household

Hello,

Is there anyone on the list who has had any luck with setting up Amazon
Household. If you do not know what this is I will try and explain it.

Amazon Household is a way of sharing your prime benefits with a spouse or
partner and up to four children. With this service you can share all your Prime
movie and tv content as well as your Kindle and Audible books. If you live in a
home in which you and your partner both have separate Amazon Prime account such
as my wife and I do, with this service you will be able to remove one of those
Prime accounts so that you will only have to pay for one.

With Amazon Household each member still uses their own Amazon account to make
purchases, but the members share all payment methods assign to said accounts,
so you must make sure that you trust whomever you add as a Household member

I hope that I explained that well enough. Now onto the issue that I have had
with getting this set up.

I created an Amazon Household account for my wife and I so that we could get
rid of one of our Prime accounts to save a little money.

Now I can’t seem to figure out how to get everything set up so that I can view
her Audible books so that I can get one from her account so that I can listen
to it. I know that I could simply log into her Audible account in the Audible
app, but because I am a big geek, I would really like to try and do it through
Amazon Household so that I can see how it works.

If anyone on the list uses this service will you please let me know how you got
everything set up? I am not sure if the problem I am having is an accessibility
problem, or if it is just me not quite understanding how it is suppose to work.

Thank You,

Scott

Hello,

If my ageing memory serves me correctly the light version of Westminster Chimes
requires that the app is running, that is to say it is listed in the Task
Switcher. To have the full functionality you have to upgrade to the Full
version.

Check your settings as per Richard’s earlier post and you should be sorted.

Hi Mitch,

Once you turn on Edit mode, delete is available. Also, when you
choose Remove for an app on a screen other than App Library, you have
the choices to remove it from your home screen or delete it completely.

RE: Amazon Household

2021-11-02 Thread R Van Lant
This is so interesting. My husband holds the primary Amazon prime membership
for our house and added me as a household member. We were frustrated the
other night because a movie I bought on my account wasn’t showing up on our
firestick. I wonder if this is the way to share it. Here is what I have found
so far:

Using the Amazon app:

  1. Click on Your Amazon tab in bottom of app.
  2. Click on Your Account.
  3. Scroll down and click on Manage Your Household
  4. Click on Manage Your Family Library
  5. A section opens with checkboxes for the categories my husband is sharing
with me and what I am sharing with him. There is also a link that says we
should go to in order to Manage content and devices to control sharing of
individual titles.

Thank You,

Scott

Re: iOS 15 Broke My Weight scale

2021-11-02 Thread Deb Cook Lewis
Yeah this is interesting. The last time I looked for this scale it was
not on Amazon, but it appears to be there now so probably an updated
version. I like that they actually mention features that support
people who are visually impaired right in their documentation. So
that's a good sign. Of course it costs more than everything else, but
I also like that it has the rechargeable battery which seems to only
require an annual charge.
If anyone does have this, how easy was it to set upt he WIFI portion
in the first place?

2021-11-02 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

I don't have one but curious if anyone is using the Qardio Base scale?
Perhaps they could comment further.

I have their blood pressure monitor and find their app to be quite
accessible which is why I thought I'd mention this scale in case it
might fit the bill.

Take good care.

Re: Westminster Chimes Full updated for iOS15 compatibility.

2021-11-02 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

I was so excited when a friend brought me this news this morning.  all
is working well on my 2 devices and I'm very pleased. As such I took the
time to email the app's developer at

supp...@luthersoft.com

and tweet to him

@luthersoft

to express my gratitude for its restoration. I also suggested that he
put a tip jar in its settings area or on his site if he didn't want to
give Apple a cut so people could contribute to its up keep should they
see fit to do so. I was one of the first to report its trouble while
iOS15 was still in beta so I also wanted to be one to express gratitude
for its restoration to its chiming glory. It makes my heart glad to be
an appreciative and grateful person. If anyone feels likewise do join me
in letting him know. I'm sure it can be quite meaningful to a developer
to not just hear when things break but also when things are going well
and are being enjoyed.

Take good care.

Robin

Hello:
I have the West Minster chimes light which had an update today. However I still
can’t get this the chimes to work. I tried rebooting the iPhone and running the
program again with the volume of chimes all the way up and when I select a time
it doesn’t play. So I don’t know if it’s really fixed yet.

I updated west minster chime this afternoon. the time is announced in 24 hour
format.. I can’t find any way to change this to 12 hour format. For example,
4:30 is spoken as 16:30. Can anyone confirm this?

Westminster • Whittington • St. Michael's • Canterbury • Winchester
The chimes will play, even when the app isn't running. Simple
settings allow for complete customization: • Separately set the
chimes to play on each quarter hour • Chime the hour number on the
hour • Play the chimes all day, or only during a specific time
window. You can adjust how notifications are displayed in the
Notifications section of the Settings app. We recommend the following
settings: Notification Center: OFF Alert Style : NONE Badge App Icon
: OFF Sounds : ON View in Lock Screen : OFF Completely accessible for

iOS 15 Broke My Weight scale

2021-11-02 Thread deblewis53
Hi All:

Well I"ve been pretty fortunate until now. I purchased the Beats blu scale
some years ago and although it has been long gone from the App Store, it has
continued to work fairly well. I decided yesterday to update to iOS 15, and
that's the end of that for my poor scale app.

The scale works wonderfully of course, but absolutely no good to me.

So what are people currently using that works with iOS 15? I thought about
purchasing the Withings scale which has been around a long time and probably
still gets updates, but I'm open for comments on that or other options.

I do need to resolve this soon so all suggestions welcome. Accessibility is
more important than price, and the most important is that perhaps it's still
getting actual updates and might be supported a while.

it is $40, and unless you need the extra features, Lazarillo is a great app for
walking directions.

It can also launch Google Maps if you need driving directions.

Yes, that sorted it out. Applying the same settings to both Big Ben and
VoiceOver also suppressed Apple’s VoiceOver announcements for those apps too.
This is an excellent set of instruction that may help with other apps too to

RE: Merlin, Bird Identification app from Cornell Labs

2021-11-02 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Pam,
If you give them your email address I suspect you will get the email I received
with an offer for a $5 discount on a Supporter membership which is regularly
$44 but you will get it for $39.
That gets you the magazine both digitally and in print if you want the print
copy.

Their sign up form is not fully accessible. But, at least the rest of their
service is.

I had to have my sighted wife finish the membership form because I couldn't get
the level of membership I wanted to show it was selected.

HTH,

Hi Richard,

Yes, I wrote the list recommending this app. It is far superior to any other
bird id apps I have tried. I agree about the quality of the bird songs they
have. When I record a bird call, their identification has been much better
also. I like that once a bird call I record has been identified, I can go to
their list of birds, search for the bird it identified, and listen to the
recorded call in the app to confirm that it identified the correct bird.

For anyone interested in birds, this is definitely worth a try.

I didn't realize they had a digital magazine. I will look into that. Thanks
for that info.

Pam

Subject: Merlin, Bird Identification app from Cornell Labs

I'm sorry I don't recall right now who first mentioned the Merlin app, but
thank you. It may have been Pam?

In any case, I am impressed with how the app works and the sound quality of
their bird recordings.

I decided I wanted to support them once I confirmed that the Cornell Labs
really is connected to Cornell University and how much they are doing for Bird
protection and revitalization.

I wrote them with a question because one of the benefits of supporting them is
a digital Bird magazine they produce. I was concerned about the accessibility
of a digital magazine.

It took a couple of weeks to get an answer, but the answer came today and they
said, and I quote, "I checked with our staff and they don't know anything about
Screen Readers, but here is a link to the digital magazine so you can check it
out."

I checked it out.

And, while they may not know anything about screen readers, they have produced
a fully accessible magazine. They clearly have smart people who actually pay
attention to current web accessibility standards. The pictures have good
alt-tags that describe them in some detail, but not too much.
All the articles are accessible.

Their web site for setting up your membership is mostly accessible other than
one key element. Picking the level you want. So, I got sighted help for that.

Whether you want to support them or not, the app is truly excellent.

Since I don’t have this app, be sure and let folks know if that took care of

Thanks for that Richard, it’s so long since I set the app up that I’d forgotten

Turn your iPhone into a chiming clock. Plays one of 5 traditional melodies, not
just Westminster. Check our our video at http://youtu.be/nT-aHbWiT0U Using the
iOS notifications feature, Westminster Chimes converts your phone into an old
fashioned hourly chiming clock, playing one of five traditional melodies: •
Westminster • Whittington • St. Michael's • Canterbury • Winchester The chimes
will play, even when the app isn't running. Simple settings allow for complete
customization: • Separately set the chimes to play on each quarter hour • Chime
the hour number on the hour • Play the chimes all day, or only during a
specific time window. You can adjust how notifications are displayed in the
Notifications section of the Settings app. We recommend the following settings:
Notification Center: OFF Alert Style : NONE Badge App Icon : OFF Sounds : ON
View in Lock Screen : OFF Completely accessible for the visually impaired.

RE: Accessible GPS in Mexico

2021-11-02 Thread Richard Turner
For sure Google Maps will work since it works pretty much everywhere.

I would lthink Apple Maps would have Mexico maps.
If while there you want an orientation app, try Lazarillo. It is free, and
works off of Google maps.

It is designed for walking directions.

With Amazon Household each member still uses their own Amazon account to make

Thank You,

RE: Merlin, Bird Identification app from Cornell Labs

2021-11-02 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND

Here is the link:
