RE: Looking for accessible language learning Apps

2022-03-20 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
Don’t bother with Fluent Forever. The app’s not VoiceOver accessible and they
showed no interest in trying to make it so when I reached out to them during
my trial period.

Another good language learning tool is a good flashcard app. The best one I
ever used was called Flashcards++. Unfortunately, the developer seems to have
abandoned it. It was completely accessible and had all sorts of features. I
have yet to come across another flashcard app that can replicate that user
experience. Both in VoiceOver accessibility and user functionality.

If anyone can recommend a really good flashcard app be it free or paid, I’m all
ears.

Try Duolingo you can use it on the web duolingo.com or on the appstore you can
find it and it's very accessible and has the languages you are interested in. I
love the app and I use it on a regular basis it’s like playing a game except
you’re learning a lot.

Hello everyone,

I can't remember if this was recently asked here, or not. If so, I do
apologize. I know I saw similar questions somewhere.

Anyway, I am looking for an accessible App, to help me possibly learn a new
language. I am most interested in learning Chinese, Spanish, and maybe one
other as well. I don't know how possible any of this is. But I just really want
to try it, rather or not it works out.

I want an App where the learning is done through interaction. Not just
studying, or trying to do a lot of memorizing.

Also, I don't mind purchasing an App. Or paying to learn the languages. But I
would like the App to be quite accessible, and easy to use, if possible.

What do you all think? Does what I am looking for, even exist?

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Books in Voice Dream reader not available

2022-03-20 Thread Lana
something a little like that happened to me a few weeks ago. Suddenly,
all my books were gone. Thanks to Bookshare's recordkeeping in my
download history, I was able to recover them, but I had to reenter my
username and password first in order to get into Bookshare.

Probably a different problem, but you may need to delete everything and
then redownload the books. That's why I love my book readers which have
SD ards. My books are always there. Then, if I prefer to read something
on the iPhone, I can find the title on the card, go into bookshare,
search the title and download it.

Sorry if this doesn't help.

Hi Chuck,

I don’t know if your issue has been resolved because it’s been a couple of days
since you posted but I’d recommend you do the following:

1. Go to Settings, Sounds and haptics, Sound volume and set it to 100
percent.
2. Single finger swipe once with focus on Sound volume and you’ll move
focus to Change with buttons and set to off. This will ensure that ringers and
alerts will not be affected by any volume changes made to Voiceover, etc. using
the volume buttons.
3. Go to your home screen and do a two finger swipe down to start
Voiceover speaking each item from its current location or do a two finger swipe
up to start Voiceover speaking continuously from the top of the screen. While
it is speaking, use the volume buttons to get the Voiceover level exactly where
you want it.
4. When you reset your phone by pressing volume up followed by volume down
quickly and then holding down the right side power button for several seconds,
make sure you’re not holding the volume down button for too long during this
process. Doing so might inadvertently reduce the Voiceover volume. At least
that happened to me at one time in the past with one of my earlier iPhone
models.

I’m using an iPhone 13 Mini which I believe you’re also using and be aware that
sometimes the volume level on these devices gets inexplicably messed up for
Voiceover users. This has been my experience especially when bringing Bluetooth
devices such as Airpods, etc. into the mix. I strongly recommend that everyone
using one of these devices keep a pair of lightning wired Earpods on hand for
the times volume goes south. One time, I had a pair of Bluetooth earbuds housed
in their case that connected to my iPhone on their own when I got up in the
morning. Fortunately, I was able to barely hear sound coming from their case as
I swiped on the screen. I was able to connect my wired Earpods and get full
sound and go to Bluetooth settings and remove those Bluetooth earbuds. The $12
investment in a set of wired lightning Earpods is a very good investment in my
opinion.

I hope your issue has been resolved but if not, I hope the above might be
helpful.

RE: Books in Voice Dream reader not available

2022-03-20 Thread Richard Turner
First, how long did you wait?

It could be it needed time to refresh, especially if you have the cloud backup
on and have any large audio files.

Second, try going into the Voice Dream Settings, Library Settings, content
Sources and possibly re-entering your Bookshare credentials.

Having Trouble Putting in Face ID

2022-03-20 Thread Esther Levegnale
Hi, Everyone,

As the subject indicates, I'm having trouble putting in Face ID rather than to
use my security code. I tried to do everything it asked me to do, but knocked
me out when I couldn't finish the process. I also want to know if facial
recognition could be used when I wear my sunglasses when I'm out.

Thanks for your help.

Esther
P.S. Just wondering if any of you had sighted help doing this and I assume you
had this done with the front camera.

RE: Suggestions needed for focus setting not to be interrupted while sleeping

2022-03-20 Thread Alan Lemly
Yes, Barbara, a three finger double tap turns speech off which is what I stated
in my original post. I rarely use the screen curtain so I don’t use the three
finger triple tap. I do find the three finger quadruple tap very useful for
copying the last thing Voiceover spoke.

Just for reference, you turn off voiceover speech with a three finger double
tap rather than a triple tap. The triple tap toggles the screen curtain.

Re: best map app for announcing street intersections

2022-03-20 Thread Thomas Frank
I love “Sound Scape” by Microsoft. The latest version allows you to create
specialized routes to your liking. For example, I have a route that guides me
on a circular route around several blocks. It switches from each Marker I have
entered and you can choose any sequence your little heart desires. You are not
stuck with the route your application thinks is the best. And, it announces
every intersection, marker, crosswalk, and points of interest along the way.

Re: Not hearing sound when I receive an email and forget how to resolve this

2022-03-20 Thread Dave Clement
Hi,

Go to:

Settings / Mail / Notifications / Customize Notifications

Then double tap your mail account name and make sure that Alerts is turned on.

Having Alerts turned off here is the usual problem re getting incoming mail
sounds.

I hope this solves it for you.

RE: Suggestions needed for focus setting not to be interrupted while sleeping

2022-03-20 Thread Star Gazer
Go to settings then notifications and look at each app making sure you
have "announce notification" off.
Check if you have banners enabled for each notification, you may.
Some apps let you set them so they deliver notifications quietly so check that
out.
Some let you deliver time sensitive notifications so check that out.
Make sure your focus is set to not allow any notifications if you want that.

You could try just turning voice over speech off. I don't think notifications
would sound then. Also, try hitting your iPhones mute switch. That might also
work.

RE: VoiceOver does not work when unlocking the phone.

2022-03-20 Thread Alan Lemly

The $12
investment in a set of wired lightning Earpods is a very good investment in my
opinion.

I hope your issue has been resolved but if not, I hope the above might be
helpful.

Hello everyone,

On my new iPhone 13 mini, when I turn off the phone to reboot and then turn it
back on, voiceover will not speak the numbers as I try to enter them for the
pass code.

Once I do enter them, through visual help, then VoiceOver works fine.

Does anybody know what’s wrong?

RE: Printing Vaccine Passport from Wallet?

2022-03-20 Thread Fazil M.
Thanks much, Sieghard.

The problem is that when I try to put the federal in, voiceover says you have
already scanned this in wallet. Secondly, the version of federal I have in
wallet, does not show booster.

Is it ok to keep federal in file and print it from there?

Thanks!

Hi Fazil,

As far as I know you can’t print from the Wallet, but since you must also have
your vaccine proof saved as JPG and/or PDF for the Federal version which you
would have needed in order to scan it and get it into Wallet in the first place
you can simply open that and print it.

Fazil, I happened to see this as I am currently at a dive resort with decent
Wi-Fi, but just so you know, tomorrow we are travelling back to my wife’s

Re: Suggestions needed for focus setting not to be interrupted while sleeping

2022-03-20 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

YOu can set up a focus on a schedule. For instance, I have Do Not Disturb turn
on automatically at 11 PM and turn off automatically at 8 AM. You can also turn
one on for an hour, so I haven't tried this, but you could tell Siri to turn it
on for 3 hours or some such.

You could also turn the volume down while you're asleep.

HTH,
Anna
