RE: Does iPhone 14 have Lidar capability?

2022-09-10 Thread michv
I am going to upgrade to a I phone 13 max if I can but am also going to wate
when is good Friday again? Since if there is a good sale on one then I will try
then. I am shure that the prices of those older phones will go down as well.
Btw I am one of those with a 8. From Mich.

As always people will upgrade whether they have to or not. And let's not forget
there are many who still have phones like the iPhone 8, X, XS or XR and if they
wish to upgrade this year simply because their phones are getting old then any
iPhone 14 whether Pro or not is still a good choice. For sighted people who
drive even just the crash detection feature can be a good motivation, then
there is a slightly larger battery, slightly improved camera on the 14/14 Plus
and big time improved camera on the Pro models and the emergency SOS via
satellite which again for users who are off the grid a lot could offer some
peace of mind.
And anybody who doesn't think they need all that they can probably score a good
deal on an iPhone 13 come Black Friday. I am actually most likely going to wait
for that.

a lot of people won't upgrade.

>From all I read the regular 14 and 14 Plus do not have LiDAR.
You'd be hard pressed to list 3 good reasons why somebody should upgrade from
an iPhone 13 to a 14 or even from an 11 or 12 to a 14.
I am actually quite underwhelmed with this years phones especially the regular
models which still have the A15 chip just like the 13 models from last year.
They say they improved the camera a bit and the front camera now has auto focus
so I guess if you are a selfie obsessed person that may be one good reason. The
emergency SOS via satellite is definitely a feature and a good reason for
people who go off the grid a lot and then that is about it.
I have a regular iPhone 11 which works great and for things like doing OCR,
recognizing currency or using other Seeing AI features I doubt you would be
able to notice an improvement between it and the iPhone 14 or even iPhone 14
Pro. For sighted people who love taking tons of photos and are really into good
photography the 14 Pro definitely would be a great option, if you really want
to take advantage of door detection and maybe other features in various apps
which require the LiDAR sensor then you have also a very good reason for the 14
Pro or Pro Max, but only if you don't already have a 12 Pro/Pro Max or 13
Pro/Pro Max which already have the LiDAR sensor as well.

I had my call from Telus, my provider in Canada today and I could have upgraded
to an iPhone 14 Pro 128 Gb for $30/month over 24 months and then I would have
to give the phone back to them or buy out that option for $560. This means that
over 2 years I would have paid $720 and if I then wanted to keep the phone I'd
have to buy it out for $560 so in total I would pay $1,280. I can go to the
Apple Store and buy a new iPhone 14 Pro 128 Gb in Canada for $1,399 so I guess
doing the deal with Telus may save me $100 or $120, but not a huge difference.
AS for trade-in, Telus said they would give me $200 for my iPhone 11 64 Gb
which is laughable because I know I could easily get $500 for it if I put it up
for sale now privately.
So I will just wait and see what happens for a while, if the iPhone 14 and 14
Pro phones aren't accepted as much as Apple may hope they are you may soon find
stores, carriers and maybe even Apple offering extra deals and Black Friday is
only just over 2 months off. I am of course somewhat tempted to get an iPhone
14 Pro because I like the idea of the MagSafe charging where a slight bump or
pull on the Earpods wouldn't dislodge the phone from its charging position on
the wireless charging pad and you can get external batteries like that new
Anker 622 MagGo which has 5,000 Mah capacity and it snaps onto the back of the
phone without covering the camera opening, but I'll just wait a bit longer.
Once the new phones are regularly available they may even be sold by my credit
card rewards program and I have plenty of points and if not then I know for
sure they have $500 Apple Store or Best Buy gift cards which I

2022-09-10 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Dennis and Everyone,

Dennis I completely agree with your sentiment.

I was completely underwhelmed, at best, and absolutely disappointed, at worst,
with iPhone release this time around.

I was hoping for some form of TouchID but, not gonna happen.

Removing the SIM tray on the US models is somewhat concerning as A T & T
Wireless has had some problems with Activating and maintaining the account
settings when eSim is activated. This is according to several articles I've
read, recently.

I just don't know, I just don't know.

I have been trying to get used to FaceID via iPhone 11 but am definitely going
to miss Touch ID.

Be that as it may, I plan to get an iPhone 14 Pro Max; not in the first couple
of months; figure I'll give carriers and Apple time to break in the new models
(smile), specifically eSIM activation but I am on the path to iPhone 14.

Double tapping on video short in Youtube app feed using VoiceOver Youtube 17.35.3

2022-09-10 Thread Shai
Hello,
When I first open the Youtube app and I am on my home feed and
encounter a video short that I'd like to listen to, I am no longer
able to double tap on the video using VoiceOver with Ios 15.6.1.
Is anyone else encountering the same difficulty and what workaround is
there currently to be able to review these videos? I tried
reinstalling the app with the same result.
Please advise.

Braille Display Not Automatically Reconnecting

2022-09-10 Thread kelby carlson
Using an iPhone 7 paired with a BrailleNote Apex. Upon updating to iOS 15.6.1,
I now notice that every time I want to use this display, I must go into VO
settings and manually reconnect—it does not automatically connect when the
notetaker is in display mode. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a known
bug, and does it occur with other displays?
Thanks!

i have my contacts syncing and am using the native mail app.
I do not like the Outlook app.

RE: Sharing Contacts Across Devices?

2022-09-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Hmm, two thoughts. First, is I never said you had to give up using the native
email client. Once you have the account set up on your phone, the native email
client will handle your Outlook messages just fine.

Second, the Outlook app is pretty sweet, so I wouldn’t right it off without at
least giving it a try.

RE: Sharing Contacts Across Devices?

2022-09-10 Thread Richard Turner
Mine sync.

I use Microsoft 365 and Outlook for my primary email and contacts.

ON my iPhone I use the native mail app and contacts.

On my iPhone, under Settings, Contacts, I have Outlook set as the default
account.

Beyond that, I probably cannot help any further other than to say I am signed
in to my Microsoft account on my iPhone too.

Hi, group.

My subjectline might be a bit misleading because of my poor English, my apology
for that.

Basically, my question is that I saved a contact on my iPhone8 and I could not
find this contact on my iPhone12. Both phone are on the same network.

Are the devices not synchronized automatically? Should I save this contact
manually in iPhone12?

Thanks!

Re: Prime time NFL games will be free on TuneIn radio this season

2022-09-10 Thread Fred Olver
You don't e even need to go to tune-in. You can go directly to Westwood 1 with
your echo device.
Also, you may find that if you have a local ESPN affiliate that they may be
carrying the Westwood 1 broadcasts.

  From TuneIn radio:

Big news for NFL fans: This year, we’re teaming up with Westwood One to
bring you Primetime NFL games, free.

That means you can stream play-by-play of Thursday, Sunday, and Monday
NightFootball games all season long.

the subject heading says it all. I did not hear any mention of Lidar in apple’s
presentation on wednesday. I have Xr, and the only insentive for me to upgrade
would be Lidar. Does anyone know?

RE: Does iPhone 14 have Lidar capability?

2022-09-10 Thread Dennis Long
The phones were terrible in my opinion they offered nothing. Hopefully they
will offer touch ID somewhere on all phones if they do that and the USBC than I
might get one but If they do little to nothing like they did this year I think
a lot of people won't upgrade.

Once the new phones are regularly available they may even be sold by my credit
card rewards program and I have plenty of points and if not then I know for
sure they have $500 Apple Store or Best Buy gift cards which I could order and
then use to buy one. I know for sure that if I had a MagSafe capable phone like
a 12 or 13 series phone I'd have 0 incentive to get a 14.

As far as I know, LIDAR is still only on the pro and pro max models.

One could call Apple to double check, but I was surprised they didn't mention
anything about it especially with the door detection feature that is apparently
coming in iOS 16, but of course, Wednesday's presentation was focused on
hardware, not software.

Hi,
I am wondering if this is a bug. I am having the same thing with 9to5 Mac. All
of my notifications are on and I even uninstalled and reinstalled the app to no
avail. Everything says they are on, but I still am not getting any from that
app. I do get podcast alerts from the Podcast app though.
