Today was my first time and after hitting the next button it gave me the
"i'm not a robot". When I checked it it brought up a bunch of pictures I was
suppose to check if there were feet. And though the sample picture was
described by voiceover none of the images with check boxes were.

Notifications on Lock Screen.

2024-02-21 Thread Larry Smith
Can anyone confirm this issue? I have my iPhone 15 Max set to read
notifications When the screen is locked. Quite often, the phone will announce
the time or something else, but does not read the notifications. If I touch the
screen, sometimes it will say (face not recognize, try again). Other times it
may start reading a notification or just announce the time. I wish I could say
that it started with IOS 17 or IOS 17.4 betas. However, this has been going on
prior to IOS 17. I am currently running IOS 17.4 beta 4. Thanks for any ideas
or suggestions.

Re: Taking pictures with Iphone

2024-02-21 Thread Richard Turner
If you want to get more in depth on how to take good pictures, I recommend
buying Judy Dixon's book, Capturing and Sharing the Wworld available in
multiple formats from National Braille Press, www.nbp.org.
She is totally blind, and consulted with a professional photographer in
learning how to take better pictures.
I also recommend Be My Eyes as the app to use to describe the photo.

Just to add that you usually need to restart the device to get the voices
on the list. They are just voices so they can be used with VoiceOver.

RE: Taking pictures with Iphone

2024-02-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you want to just take ictures the Canera pp which comes preinstalled on your
iPhone is fine. If you are taking pictures of people, Voiceover even tells you
if the person's face is centred or if not it may say something "1 face near top
edge" or "2 faces near right edge".
If you want AI generated descriptions then you have to use the Be My Eyes app
which contains the "Be My AI" service. After taking a picture it will genberate
a description which can take anywhere from a few seconds to maybe 10 seconds.
Once you have Be My Eyes installed, you can also open a picture in the Photos
app, tap Share and select "Describe with Be My Ai" fron the list of actions and
it will generate a description of a picture you already have.

I’d like to learn to do this. I know I can with the

Also, piggybacking on this, what ai apps do you all recommend to describe the
images once taken?

RE: Taking pictures with Iphone

2024-02-21 Thread paekstrand
I use the camera app on my iPhone to take the pictures, admittedly with mixed
results. From within the camera app, you can then go into the photo and video
viewer, and with a photo selected, choose share. One of the options you will
see is describe with be my eyes. If you choose the AI feature from within be
my eyes, it does a good job of describing the photo.

RE: third party speech for IOS?

2024-02-21 Thread Richard Turner
And, a link to a reference about Apple maybe allowing third party voices on the
OS, and not within specific apps would be helpful.

I doubt this will be for all iOS without Apple incorporating it themselves like
they did with Eloquence.

RE: Good Accessible GPS?

2024-02-21 Thread Richard Turner
The key thing about BlindSquare is while it is excellent for some things, it is
not a true GPS app itself. If you want a route to some place, you can use
BlindSquare to look that place up and speak the amount of Points of Interest
along the way, but it will launch either Google Maps, Apple Maps and I think
now GoodMaps Outdoors. Whichever ones you have installed, you can choose that
one and let BlindSquare give more information than perhaps what Google Maps or
Apple Maps gives automatically. I don’t think you would want both BlindSquare
and GoodMaps Outdoors talking over each other as GoodMaps has many of the same
features as BlindSquare.

There are CereProc voices which are high quality and cost 1$/voice.

I have just installed one of them. They do appear to be of solid quality but

This is an iPhone/iOS list and unless I am very mistaken the voices available
to use with voiceover system wide are those Apple offers under Settings >
Accessibility > Voiceover > Speech.

This is for iOS.

You are right, they have voices for Android, Mac and Windows.

I guess that I can disclose that this was in some part my initiative as we were
in talks to implement their voices in my app and I was the first to suggest
them to implement voices directly on iOS when Apple allowed that instead of
distributing through my app. But I think they had to wait till last year when
Apple made developer announcement for this with working project.

As such I was informed to test their voices as soon as it was published on the
App Store.

I think that they don’t still talk too much about it as the level of stability
may need some improvement.

It may be better if they started this through TestFlight, but if you trust them
based on their reputation that they will make this work well I think that final
price will be notably higher (similar to Android) so it may be a good
opportunity to get it at the lower price and use it later.

Hi Carolyn,

Is there a chance that screen recognition has gotten turned on? That will cause
all sorts of strange things. If that’s not it and you haven’t already done it,
I would turn the phone off and turn it back on. Let us know what happens.

Re: third party speech for IOS?

2024-02-21 Thread Ivan Icin
This is for iOS.

You are right, they have voices for Android, Mac and Windows.

I guess that I can disclose that this was in some part my initiative as we
were in talks to implement their voices in my app and I was the first to
suggest them to implement voices directly on iOS when Apple allowed that
instead of distributing through my app. But I think they had to wait till
last year when Apple made developer announcement for this with working
project.

As such I was informed to test their voices as soon as it was published on
the App Store.

I think that they don’t still talk too much about it as the level of
stability may need some improvement.

It may be better if they started this through TestFlight, but if you trust
them based on their reputation that they will make this work well I think
that final price will be notably higher (similar to Android) so it may be a
good opportunity to get it at the lower price and use it later.
