Voice-Over on iPhone 12 Pro bounces focus

Hi all,

I have a 12 Pro and when attempting to do certain task like connect to my
HomePod mini, share a link via messages or email from youtube or share
something from my photo roll

Voice-Over continues to bounce back to one element and stays there no matter
how many flicks right or left I perform. Is anyone else experiencing the same?
Any fixes or work arounds?

Re: Power beats pro review

2019-05-18 Thread VaShaun Jones
I think my favorite feature is the fact you can keep them on all day and it
just easily helps you communicate your vision to the world.

It’s like a on and off switch for all things life related.

Now, if it could assist me with reading between the lines when my wife is
communicating then I’d pay a premium to own hundreds of pairs of Power Beats
Pro’s. For now.

I’ll continue to change the world just knowing that Apple is on the job when it
comes to accessibility!

Papaya., is the app I was thinking of. I purchased the other one you named and
it seems pretty accessible, but entering my info is getting me no where fast
when trying to log in.

The only one I'm aware of is Papaya. It's very fiddly and seems to not work

much more reliable, and is AudioBus compatible, but it only supports Icecast,
 and the Opus codec.

Fedora Outlier is looking to interview you, yes you!

2013-06-11 Thread VaShaun Jones
You are a hero, whether you know it or not. Sure, you may think you lead a
rather ordinary life, but the things you do and the ways you're impacting the
lives of people with disabilities are extraordinary.

The Delivering Access podcast is a shrine to these professionals,
entrepreneurs, thought leaders and evangelists who, with each and every day,
are doing their part to help individuals achieve the impossible.

Our host, VaShaun Jones, a blind entrepreneur and the Managing Partner of
Fedora Outlier, LLC, takes a deep dive into what motivates these life-changers
to radically redefine the lives of so many with their businesses, their
leadership and their vision. We explore why they do what they do, how they do
it and ways you can apply their insight to your very own process and platform.

Our production team is currently filling slots for the first season of the
Delivering Access podcast, set to launch mid-summer. If you are a business
owner, an entrepreneur, an educator or a leader, we want to feature you and all

Travel app

2013-03-11 Thread VaShaun Jones
Listers,

I'm finding myself needing to fly allot and save money while doing it. My
question is has anyone found a app to monitor flight prices either through a
specific airline for specific destinations? Ultimately what I would like is to
put in a destination with dates and let the app send me alerts with any
specials. Does anyone know of such an app?

I’ve not yet done Skype, so I have no idea if this is possible or not.

Re: iPad Mini vs full-size

I have them both and I think its all relative. The finger cramping is possible
on both iPads and the iPhone. I like the mini for portability and I use it for

my Air on up to the Retina and believe it or not all of them serve their own
purpose.
I would say if you got the money get one but its not a must have for most.

I also like the fact that when you don't want to use the keyboard, you simply
turn the iPad with the screen facing down, and it will automatically attach to

issues, but they need to know that investing the resources will benefit
people. Remember they do not know who is using VO with one of these apps.

Possible, but what if its a bluetooth keyboard that has control in the other

Re: Braille Displays For iPhone

2012-10-14 Thread VaShaun Jones
I actually had the same question up to and including how to make a period
because I used dot six and this wasn't working, so I don't think this is a
crazy question because it helped me tremendously.
On Oct 14, 2012, at 10:47 AM, Richard Turner richard.turne...@gmail.com wrote:

 Hi,
All refreshable braille displays have 8 dots. They are numbered down the
left side of the cell, 1,2,3,7 and the right side, 4,5,6,8.
Dots 7 and 8 are used in standard braille as the cursor indicator.
In computer braille, dot 7 is used for capital letters in place of the dot
6, so a capital letter only takes one cell, so a capital A for example,
would be dots 1 and 7.
The at sign is normally dots 7 and 4 if you have 8 dot braille turned on.
Those are just a couple examples.
The National Braille Press has a nice little booklet called Computer Braille
Made Easy that is very good if you want to truly learn computer braille.
Also, there is an app for $0.99 called Braille Reference that has a list of
 computer braille symbols.

Actually, Apple uses a time-sensitive grade II braille buffer which only
allows approximately half a second. What this means is, if you hesitate for
a half second, the grade II translator converts the buffer and enters the
data. If you set braille to 8 dot computer braille, the buffer will
deactivate and this translation aspect stops. In other words, if there is no
text in the grade II buffer, you can braille as slowly as you wish.

Re: Braille Displays For iPhone

2012-10-13 Thread VaShaun Jones
Sorry it was late. I like the look and feel of the 14. Even though the A.P.H
one smaller its also bulky. The 14 is newer and it's oblong like a dollar and
thinner. Other than that I'm learning how to use a braille device and always
wanted portable verses a bigger device even though the larger displays gives
more information from the screen at one time.

Hi there. I have the same issue. I haven't found an app that will do this

Open the file attachment and take a screen shot - home plus power button.
This puts a photo of the image in your camera roll and will be the last one
on the list with the highest number.
Open your preferred ocr app and go to the camera roll option. Select the
photo of the image you took the screen shot of and go through the normal
process of your app to ocr it.
I find that prismo is the most accurate with the least amount of mistakes but
the others do work reasonably well if you don't have prismo. You can then
save your translated file into whatever app you use for storing documents
 etc.

Going back a page in a iPad app

2012-10-03 Thread VaShaun Jones
Listers I'm using a app on my iPad that isn't intuitive when it comes to going
back a layer in the app. The escape key takes you out and to the home screen.
There is no back button either. What else can I try to make this app back up a
page or two?

Like the subject line says above, there's a deal out there for 6 months of

that deal is long gone. In any event, I was able to grab the six month deal
and since I've never really bothered with the service and am not familiar
with accessibility, I was wondering if anyone on here had any experience
with it be it on the computer or any of the I-devices. I vaguely recall
threads in the past having to do with it, but never followed them much. I
figured if it turns out to be an accessible nightmare, then at least it
didn't cost me anything. I've gone ahead and included the link where I
grabbed it from, but I'm sure all the deal sites and whatnot are posting it
to if anyone wants to hunt for it on another site.

The iPhone 5 is an incredible smartphone. I’ve been using mine since it
arrived on my doorstep at 7:48 p.m. the day after launch day (after a
painfully long wait), and I love it. It’s spectacularly thin and light, it’s
beautiful — like most Apple products — and that larger display is such a
 welcome improvement.

I chose the white and silver model — I’ve had white iPhones for as long as
they’ve been available — and I think it’s the prettiest gadget I’ve ever
owned. It’s also powerful, and noticeably faster than my already snappy
iPhone 4S. Its battery life is excellent, and so is the camera.

Overall, I have a long list of positive things to say about the iPhone 5 —
the hardware is just unbeatable. But I think there’s one thing letting it
 down, and that’s iOS 6.

Before I jump in and tell you why iOS 6 is letting down the iPhone 5, let me
just make one thing clear: I love iOS. It’s by far the most polished mobile
platform there is, and it’s been my OS of choice since its debut with the
 original iPhone.

iOS “just works” — in so many ways. Its ability to sync with iTunes and
iPhoto, and all the benefits that iCloud brings, make it a perfect companion
for Mac users like me. It’s super simple to use — even my granddad’s using it
 — and the catalog of third-party apps available on iOS is second to none.

But as a technology writer, I’m often required to step outside my comfort
zone and test other devices… devices that don’t run iOS. Since selling my
iPhone 4S a couple weeks ago, I’ve been using a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and
prior to that I tested a long list of Android and Windows Phone smartphones.

Apple’s platform is the best of the bunch, but the gap between iOS and its
 competitors is getting ever smaller.

What I’ve learned along the way is that Apple’s platform is the best of the
bunch, and for me, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.
But the gap between iOS and its competitors is getting ever smaller.

When Apple announced the original iPhone back in 2007, iOS — then called
“iPhone OS” — was like nothing we’d ever seen before. Sure, we’d had
touchscreen devices, but they were designed to work with tiny styluses that
quickly got broken or lost, and they were slow and unreliable.

Apple kept making iOS better, adding things like iTunes and support for
third-party apps through the App Store. These things took iOS way ahead of
anything else, and that’s been the case for quite some time.

For the past few years, iOS hasn’t been taking the leaps it did in the early
 days.

But for the past few years, iOS hasn’t quite been taking the leaps it did in
the early days. Apple has added new features and new services, some of which
are really terrific, such as iCloud — as I mentioned earlier — and Siri. But
there are some big things iOS is missing— things that other platforms gained
 a long time ago.

 Widgets

 I want widgets on iOS.

These things become more apparent when you use those other platforms for a
few weeks. For example, Android’s widgets may not seem like a big thing to
you, but try living with them for an extended period of time and you’ll miss
them a lot when you go back to iOS.

Widgets let you add all kinds of things to your home screen, such as sports
scores, the weather, music controls, settings toggles, your Twitter timeline,
a breaking news feed… the list is endless.

Having these things in front of you right after unlocking your smartphone,
without having to open up an app, is just fantastic. I felt the same way
about Windows Phone’s live tiles after using an HTC Titan for a month.

I want widgets, or maybe even dynamic icons, on iOS. And I know this is a
feature a lot of iOS users have been calling out for for some time. But Apple
is yet to introduce it. It has added its own alternative to Notification
Center in the form of Weather and Stocks “widgets,” but those have remained
unchanged since iOS 5, and Apple is yet to offer us anything new.

You can add widgets yourself if you jailbreak, and those that are available
through Cydia are… okay. But they’d be so much better if Apple supported them
and allowed developers to create them for their apps. The iPhone 5’s larger
display creates room for widgets, so let’s have them, Apple.

 Quick Settings Toggles

Another feature iOS is missing is quick settings toggles. These allow you to
quickly change common settings without having to open up your settings app.
Android has them in the notification drop-down, allowing you to quickly
toggle Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, the screen rotation

Lock screen

Listers I have a question. In iOS 6 the lock screen comes up within 30 seconds
of me reading an alert. How can I prevent this?

On Sep 19, 2012, at 10:21 AM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote:

 Hi again, Simon,

I can understand your frustration, but this is a bit like selecting text to
copy and paste with the pinch gesture. It takes practice and a light touch
and I don't want to sound condescending, but there are some people who
somehow don't seem to learn certain gestures. There are even people who
can't get any useable results with the Fleksy app while most people who use
it are thrilled by how well it works and how fast one can type with it. And
this is not just blind people. I gave my Mom an iPad for her birthday last
year and for a few weeks she could just not get the hang of how to move apps
either, but eventually she did although I am sure some sighted people don't
either. The tricky thing when moving apps is that you have to have pretty
good special awareness and let's say I want to drag the app on the very
right in row 2 onto the second app from the left in row 3 to create a
folder. You have to be able to drag your finger straight to the left and
then down a bit, if you start out and end up going on a diagonal and maybe
even on a diagonal going up instead of down or down too steep without being
aware of that you will definitely have problems. I think in this case the
only way is to go very short dispances, just drag an app across the next app
and then stop, once 2 apps are either side by side or one on top of he other
I find it very easy to put them on top of one another to create the folder.
And one more trick. I find it easier to drag a folder around than to drag an
app around because if you accidently let go while the folder is on top of
another app nothing happens whereas if you accidently let go of an app while
it is on top of an app you don't want it will create a folder. So once you
have a folder started, just drag it next to whichever app you want to put in
it next and then just drag the app over a bit until it's on top of the
 folder.

 Good luck,
 Sieghard

Re: iOS 6 Released

Yeah, problem with mines is that I'm out of town and using the 3G on my phone

Re: first IPhone IPhone4S vs IPhone5 with VO

2012-09-19 Thread VaShaun Jones
You should either get an unlocked iPhone from someone on the list that is
selling one or get the 5. If I was you. The unlocked would get you a very nice,
fast phone that will work well with the new OS without a contract and then you
can get the 5S next year or you can get the 5 now and skip the next years
phone. Either way you are getting some good hardware.

As an example, I had the 3GS still when the 4S was announced and had I sold

The problem for me is compounded by the fact that both my husband and I plan

Apple to retire iPhone 3GS with low-end 8GB iPhone 4S debuting at next
week's iPhone 5 event By Raymond Wong | BGR News - Thu, Sep 6, 2012

We already know that next week's September 12th Apple (AAPL) event will
bring the announcement of the iPhone 5, but rumor has it the 8GB iPhone
3GS will finally be retired. The Telegraph reports that sources close to
retailers say Apple will replace the entry-level iPhone 3GS with the 8GB
iPhone 4 and a new 8GB iPhone 4S to its lineup. Essentially, the 8GB
iPhone 4 will be offered free on contract as the 3GS has been, and the
8GB iPhone 4S will become a new mid-point offering. Naturally, the new
iPhone 5 will sit at the top of the totem pole and will come in
capacities of 16GB , 32GB and 64GB. It can be argued that the 3GS has
been a boon in emerging markets, especially because Apple will continue
to support it in iOS 6, but we think it's time to let the three-year-old
device go. After all, it is the only iPhone that still doesn't support
 Retina display apps.

I'm outside of the sf area, so can't listen to them direct on radio.

Is there a single app which will let you listen to all the games, preferably

Re: presentations from IPhone

2012-09-11 Thread VaShaun Jones
What I do is use Keynote and either use the Keynote app remote to control the
computer or the iPad. What I'm interested in is an app that demos with my
fingers on the iPad so that jesterss can be displayed. Also if the Keynote app
would bing or something when transitioning between slides.

 Hello:

I’m interested in knowing what and how folks are doing presentations from
their IPhones. I do a lot of public speaking, and to date, I’ve been using
PowerPoint. I’d love to learn how to put a presentation on my IPhone or IPad
so that I could carry my presentations with me that way. I feel fairly
confident that I’d have to produce in KeyNote, but then how does one get the
presentation from IPhone/IPad to projector, and can I include sound?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

 Hello Folks,

I have the Epicurious app on my phone. What I like about it is when it is
first opened, the first page will give you different selections on the type
of meals if you are interested in one of the categories. There are also four
different buttons at the bottom to go to the home menu, search, favorites,
shopping list, and about. At the upper right hand corner after making a
category selection, there is a toggle list button. This needs to be tapped
on to open the list of recipes. Once you have selected a recipe by tapping
on it, there is an Add button that will give you options to add it to your
favorite list, email the recipes, tweet it, send to Facebook, or add to the
shopping list. There are different ways to search when you tap on the search
button. There are different types of food items such as avocado, bacon, etc.
to link on for recipes. There is a text field to type in a type of recipe
you are looking for or a food item to search the app. Besides different food
items to search for, there are categories for dietary considerations, dish
type, main/course, seasonal, and etc. For 1.99, you can get the recipe box
and sync the recipes there. I have not considered spending the money because
I place it in my favorites or email myself the recipes. This is a good
little app. I believe it is free minus the recipe box sync for $1.99. The
developer and the full app name is below. Enjoy.
