RE: Internet's conectivity status on IPHone's Status Bar?

2024-03-14 Thread Debby Hill
I thought in the past that the status bar did show when you are connected to
the internet, but I must be dreaming. Now when I have internet connectivity
problems I go to settings and wifi like Richard. If you are not connected to
the internet it will show there. I have not had the problem that Richard is
having. But it would be nice if the internet status was on the status bar.

Subject: RE: Internet's connectivity status on IPHone's Status Bar?

I have had the same issue with my 13 pro.
In fact, it was an expensive issue in January when I did an update over 6 GB
only to find that even though the status bar said 3 of 3 wi-fi bars, it was
downloading over cellular. We share 1 GB per month...
I have since left cellular data turned off and made sure that all the
individual apps show cellular off, so when I find the status bar says I have
wi-fi, but I really don't, I get the message that cellular is turned off for
such and such an app.
Then, I open settings, and Wi-fi will show my home network, and only rarely say
not connected, but if I turn wi-fi off, wait a few seconds, turn it back on and
have it reconnect to my home network, then it is connected.
Apple ran a diagnostic on my iPhone remotely and nothing showed up as a
problem. But, the really strange thing is my wife's wi-fi only iPad and my
wi-fi only iPad don't ever seem to have this issue, neither do our laptops that
are only connected via wi-fi.
It is annoying, but I can usually work around it with the turning wi-fi off
then back on approach.
I'm not ready to buy a new phone over this yet.
When I am out and about and want cellular data access I will turn it on for
however long I need it and then turn it off again to avoid maxing out our data
limit. We only pay about $16 per month for our phone service which is why we
leave it at the 1GB shared data.

Subject: Internet's connectivity status on IPHone's Status Bar?

I've been several days without Internet from my cable company here in Mexico,
and so whenever I call Izzi Telecom's TEch Support line, they ask me if on the
IPhone's Status Bar (at the very top of the screen where you've got the Battery
info, Time…), if it says if I've got Internet or not, right? I do see the 3 of
3 bars of Izzi $C5C showing, but when I go into Youtube or Safari, or access
Facebook or such, I'm unable to navigate.
So I found this curious, and once at my MOm's, where I've got Internet and
everything's working as it should, I checked the Status Bar AGain, and it does
show my MOm's Internet of Telmex so-and-so, but it doesn't show whether the
INternet is connected, when I know it is!
So all this brings me to wondering what's the deal with this? Does the
Internet-connected Icon show up on the Status BAr for the sighted, but it's
VoiceOver's fault that this icon isn't recognized or seen?
So what other way (apart from having to actually go in and try working with
online content, is it possible for us VoiceOver users, to see at a glance if
the Internet is connected or not? As mentioned before, the Status bar does show
the Wifi signal itself, but the Internet's availability is the deal here. For
instance, on Windows 7 and 10, on the STatus bar (Insert+F11) it shows if the
Internet is connected or not (aside from the WiFi name); something like this is
what I'm looking for in iOS.
Thanks for any info.

RE: How does your Voiceover pronounce yesterday after the iOS 13.4 upgrade?

2020-03-28 Thread Debby Hill
Hi,
I have an iPhhone 8 and my default voice is Samantha the regular not enhanced. It says "yestertay" instead of "yesterday." This morning for kicks I tried the Siri female voice and Susan Enhanced, and "yesterday" was still pronounced "yestertay." So I am concluding that it doesn't matter what voice you use, this must be some basic algorithm problem. Since it is annoying, I just might have to give in and change the ⠏⠗⠕⠝⠥⠝⠉⠊⠠⠝⠲ Oh well!

If the default voice under VoiceOver Speech is a Siri voice, try changing it to something else and see if that fixes it.
You may also want to change the Siri Language under Siri Settings to something other than American English.  Not sure if that matters, but that was a work around to get rid of the stupid transcriptions on voice mail.
If it still mispronounces yesterday, go to the VoiceOver Speech settings, pronunciation.
Add yesterday spelled correctly and in the substitution edit field, spell it with u r instead of e r so yesturday
I also make sure it is set to apply to all languages.

I noticed it with the default Samantha bvoice also. I changed the spelling in pronounciation  and it solved the problem.

I know pronunciation issues are miniscule with everything going on now but I'm curious why Voiceover seems to have
problems with the pronunciation of certain words after iOS upgrades. I upgraded to iOS 13.4 yesterday on my iPhone 8 and I notice that the last syllable of the word yesterday is now pronounced as if it begins with the letter t instead of with the letter d.
I'm getting this same mispronunciation with both Samantha enhanced and Tom enhanced and am curious if others are also experiencing it. I was reviewing a list of recent app upgrades in the App Store and they are tagged with the upgrade day and I got tired of
 hearing yesterday pronounced as yesterTay.

Thanks for any confirmation of this mispronunciation issue.

Re: Native Mail app focus issues under iOS 13.2

2019-11-01 Thread Debby Hill
Hi All,
Alan, I haven't notice your thread issue because I usually open a thread with a one finger double tap and read through the messages that way. ⠠⠓⠪⠐⠑⠂ I know what you mean when exiting from a message or for me it occurs on a thread of messages. When I return to the ⠍⠑⠎⠎⠁⠛⠑ list there is random behavior. Sometimes it does focus on the message or thread I have just closed, but at other times the focus is at the top or somewhere else on the message list. (Sometimes I whimsically wonder if it has something ⠞⠕ do with the way I am holding the ⠏⠓⠐⠕⠲ :)) It is annoying, and I need to report it also. I was hoping that 13.2 would fix it, but it hasn't.
The other weird thing that happens for me is that when I am reading through a thread message by message, when I turn the rotor ⠞⠕ to go to the "messages" setting I always have to pass through "misspelled words." I have looked all over to try to get rid of the "misspelled words" in the rotor with no luck. Neither "Messages" nor "misspelled words" appear in the rotor list, so I can't change their order. I searched in settings for "misspelled words" and couldn't find any reference to it. Am I missing something or is this is just a bug?
Thanks for any help!
Take care and have fun!

Hi List,

I think this subject might have been previously discussed so I apologize as I only upgraded to iOS 13.x on Tuesday of this week.

I use the native Mail app for reading my Gmail account emails and I have it set to display messages in threaded mode. I'm noticing that when focus is on a message group
with multiple messages, that when I single finger swipe down and select expand to open the list of messages in the group that focus jumps several screens up or down rather than leaving me at the top of the opened list as it did in iOS 12.4.1. I get similar
screen jumps and loss of focus when I single finger swipe to contract the opened thread.

I'm also noticing that when I open a single email that isn't part of a group, that focus isn't on it any longer when I go back to my message list using either the back button
 or the scrub gesture.

This loss of focus makes reading emails on my iPhone 8 a royal pain and I'm wondering if others are experiencing it. If there is a workaround, I'd love to hear it or if
this is a known issue, I'd love to know that too. I plan on writing Apple Accessibility to report this but I wanted to check with this list first before doing that.

Thanks in advance for your help.
