It's useable on an iPhone, but you'll have to play around with it a bit.

Subject: AT DirecTV Streaming app

Howdy,
Once again, I’m looking for the best possible streaming app that will provide
me with the most channels for the best price. I’m wondering if anyone has used
the DirecTV streaming app with either an iDevice, an Apple TV, or a Smart TV
with something else? I just want to know if anyone has found it accessible
enough to try. This won’t come with a promotion. 
Thanks for any information.

I am a frequent lyft rider. This morning I received an Email from another list
saying that yesterday's update to the app created an accessibility glitch in
that the "Request a Ride" button no longer worked with Voiceover turned on.

later today we took a lyft Ride. There was no issue with that button, but
after pressing it, the next screen only showed that a driver had been found,
but the usual identifying info about the driver and car, and the expected
arrival time was not present. Then when the driver was one minute away that
screen popped up. Has anyone noticed any issues with the newly updated app? I
understand that lyft has acknowledged that there are issues, and promises to
fix them soon.

RE: Updated lyft App

2019-04-16 Thread SCOTT VAN GORP
Hi Sieghard and List:
Actually, this was an accessibility issue in the app with voiceover. I
restarted my phone and uninstalled and reinstalled, and it didn’t work. Lyft
has since ddropped an update in the app store and in the description it
mentions accessibility fix for voiceover. I updated and tested it, and it is
now working as expected. That was sure a quick turnaround!

Cordially:

issues with uber update

2016-12-06 Thread SCOTT VAN GORP
Hi List:

Anyone else having issues with the latest update to the uber app? Now, instead
of taking me to the familiar screen that would have already logged in with my
email and password, it presents me with a screen to enter my phone number or
log in with facebook. When I enter my mobile number, it says that uber can't
recognize it. Any ideas? I really don't want to log in with facebook if I can
help it, so any help would be most appreciated. I can't even go to a request
screen to get a ride! I don't seem to find a place to add my phone number to an
uber profile, so I'm stuck. Thannks!

Cordially:

Hi,

I updated to MyVerizonMobile version 5.1.8 this morning. I just opened the
app after reading your message, and was on the Home Screen which read Menu
and successfully flicked through the Home page, which told me about my last
payment, how many days were on my current plan, and other things. Nothing
about Videos , but I didn't search much further than that.

Maybe turn your phone off then on again after removing the app from your
switcher, or even after removing from your device..

Best, Keith

Hello everyone,
I just updated the my verizon app this morning, and, if I am not mistaking,
it appears to now be unaccessible. I usually update one device and then
check out my updates, but, for some reason, I didn't do that this time. Has
anyone updated and been able to use the app? I accepted all of the terms

Dice world issues

2015-06-18 Thread Scott Van Gorp
Hi List:

Not sure if this is a voiceover thing or not, but I'm having issues. Dice
world was trying to refresh this morning, and I couldn't get it to load so
I blew the app away and restarted it. I put in what I know to be my
username and it wouldn't take the password, so I reset it twice using my
email but I'm still having issues. This is using IOS 8.3 on one of my
devices. Does anyone have the email address for the developers so I can
try and get wit them to fix this issue? I'm going to lose the games I've
got going, but I need to get back in there. Thanks for any help. It's not
recognizing something in the reset process, but I'm not sure what.

Re: Boarding Pass/Passbook

I was going to ask the same question since my wife and I are traveling together

After you check in your boarding pass is on your phone. What I did was open
the app where my boarding pass was then lock the phone so that when I
unlocked the pass would come up right away. The TSA agent will scan the
barcode right off the phone. Just make sure you don't have your screen
curtain on when you hand over your phone.

assuming nothing happens until 24 hours before flight time when I check in

 I
have heard it said your boarding pass will show on the lock screen.
Does it show after checking in? Do I just hit the power key to show
the boarding pass or do I also have to tap Unlock. Or do I have to
unlock the phone and open either the Southwest app or Passbook.

I would guess it works the same no matter the airline.

Thanks for clarifying how this works.

 Rose,

I posted pretty detailed instructions last time you mentioned that touch Id
wasn't working for you. I believe you said you were stuck on the screen where
it says there is a picture of a person holding an iPhone or something like
that. All you have to do at that point is locate the continue button and keep
capturing the edges of your fingerprint. The first part of the process you
use the main part of your finger, don't hold your finger too steep so that
only the very tip is captured, it works much better if you hold your finger
flat and capture the main meaty part of your pad between the tip of your
finger and the first knuckle. Then after the continue button it says to
capture the edges of your print so do that and after a few more times of
touching the home button it will say that it's done.

I find unlocking the phone is much easier and faster with touch Id than if
you wake it up and then find the unlock button because once it's set up, all
I do it press the home button, let go but I let my finger rest on it lightly
for a second or so and it's done. Apart from the convenience factor there is
 of course the additional security.

 Sieghard

Well, I can't set up Apple Pay, not that I go anywhere but work, because no
matter how hard I try I don't have fingerprints, or at least the phone does
not think I do. I swear after 38 years typing 8 hours a day, I wore them
 off, grin.

Anyway, have tried several times, and even with my thumbs on either hand I
can't get any prints to enter. I guess it is okay, then I don't have to type
in my pass code all the time, since I am unable to get a print, just like my
printer does not work I guess, I turned off use pass code since the phone is
always either on my person, on my desk (not at work) or on the nightstand.
If I ever manage to get a print in, probably can't use Apple Pay anyway since
I seem to never go anywhere but work and home over the past few months.

Silly phone, I have to have fingerprints, except that once my mom worked for
a school district in the cafeteria and first time they printed her they could
to get a print either, they told her to use Cornhusker's lotion and come back
in a week. That time they actually got fingerprints.

I still say I typed mine off. Do I try the pad or the tip, maybe that will
make a difference. Who knows, I might of inherited no prints from Mom.

Slightly frustrated but can live without this feature, not so a real printer.

Subject: aborted Apple Pay transactions, what to do about them or delete?

Hi there! I recently got an iPhone 6 from Sprint, as I qualified for that $15
per month lease credit. I decided to experiment with Apple Pay, and last friday
I decided to take Uber to go out to eat. I managed to find the Apple Pay
button, which is actually the blank silent thing you can tap on in the payment
methods. By the time I did the touch ID thing, the car wasn't available any
more, but I got notification of the transaction almost simultaneously. When I
go into Passbook now, there is this $2.15 transaction that says TBD next to it
that I don't see on my online banking. Are they holding money a different way
the bank hasn't built an interface to, or how do I erase the to be determined
entry in passbook, since nothing will become of it since the guy must've
accepted another trip that came up right with mine? I am almost certain that if
there isn't a debit entry in online banking that there hasn't been a charge for
it, but I wonder when Apple expires these out?

 I
had my wife create pieces of cardboard which correspond to the three
 sizes
of phones. That is the 5s, 6, and 6+. I thought that I would try to put
 it
in a way which some may understand better. So what I did was compare
 the
sizes to lines of braille (strange I know). I know that this won't help
everyone but for those who work with braille, the 5s is 12.5 lines
 long
 and
7 wide. The 6 is 14 long and 7 lines wide. The 5s is 16 long and 8
 lines
 wide.

asking for a citation because many having problems finding information or

I don't know which screen reader or internet browser with which you are

Voiceover start reading all the apps and while it is talking repeatedly press
the volume up button. iOS always has remembered different volume settings for
headphone, speaker, SIRI, Voiceover etc. and to change
Any of them you have to do so while what you want to change is active. As far
as I know the volume in Settings, Sounds only applies to ringer and alerts

Anyhow, once your finger prints are scanned there really shouldn't be any
accessibility issues since all you have to do it place your finger onto the
home key for it to recognize it and unlock the phone.
While I haven't seen any messages from people who got their phones at a

Apple had made this process not accessible.

aftershokz questions

2013-02-25 Thread Scott Van Gorp
Good Evening List:

I just received my new Aftershokz headphones today, and I think I've got
almost everything figured out. I believe the single button on the middle of
the controller is the in-line microphone, am I correct? How can you tell
whether the microphone is active? Is the only way to charge these by
plugging them into a computer with the USB adapter? How do you know if it's
charging? I didn't hear the pc make a USB connection sound, so I wasn't
sure. Thanks for any and all help. They're a great product, and I just
want to get the most use out of them that I can.

Hi Tom:

I went onto the aftershokz site and got the charging questions answered, but
the only question I have left is that third button on the controller. I
know about the power switch and the volume control, but is the third button
for the microphone as a push to talk switch? It's in the center of the
controller just a bit off from the microphone. Thanks.

Yes, you charge them with the USB cord. The microphone is the hole on the
in-line controller..

The top buttons are for volume and the on/off switch below that.

We use a splitter for hooking them to a computer. it separates the
microphone and the headphones.

Any other questions, let me lnow.

I wonder how the bluetooth headsets are.

Perplexing problem with Siri on Jailbroken iPhone 5

2013-02-23 Thread Scott Van Gorp
Good evening List:

As the subject says, I'm having an issue on my jailbroken iPhone 5 now
running iOS 6.1.2. The problem started a couple of days ago when I was
still running 6.1.1, I noticed that siri was not opening apps when I would
tell it to. She just kept saying I don't see you have an app named
facebook for example, when I do. No matter what app I would try to launch,
it wouldn't happen. Anyway, I went to iTunes 11 to do a restore, and it was
going to upgrade the iOS, which is fine since I saw there was an update to
the jb. Everything went fine this morning, but when I went to work, the
problem started again. I first thought it had something to do with LTE vs.
WiFi, so I didn't worry about it until I got home. Now I've turned siri
off, restarted the phone, and turned it back on with no success. Any ideas
on what is causing this odd behavior? It was working fine as late as
Wednesday on the old configuration, and the only thing I changed in the jb
since then was adding software update killer and reset all killer. Any help
would be appreciated. I would restore it again, but I'm afraid I'd have the
same problem once I'm away from home. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Hi, Everyone.

Is anyone running the latest iOS update-6.1.2, I think? If so, is your
iDevice running smoothly? Or are there glitches to watch for?

I'm getting the update notification, but hesitate to do anything till I get
a feel for how others are doing with it.

Thanks,

Dani

Ringtone Architect question with Windows xp and iPhone 5

2012-12-16 Thread Scott Van Gorp
Good Afternoon List:

I've got an albom on my iPhone that I would like to take a portion of one
song and create a ringtone with Ringtone Architect. It found the album on
the phone, but when I click on the song to work with it, I'm running into a
drm issue. Is there a way around this, or am I just stuck? I purchased the
album from iTunes to have a copy for my library anyway. This is my first
experience doing any of this. Thanks for any help.

RE: friend gets a new phone tomorrow, want a refresher on first steps

2012-10-03 Thread Scott Van Gorp
Hi Paul:

I was just looking at the hearing aid setting in accessibility since I have
a set over here. The aids do need to be Bluetooth capable to interact with
the phone. My understanding is that the audio would them be routed to them.
Hope this helps a little.

Subject: friend gets a new phone tomorrow, want a refresher on first steps

All, it's been a while since we got our phones and had to set them up from
scratch. A friend named Ken gets one tomorrow, but he's 500 miles away and
doesn't have email, twitter, etc. So communication not using a phone is
limited.

He is totally blind and has some hearing loss, almost no hearing in one ear
in fact. Here are my questions as best as I can think of them:

1. In the Sprint store, they can get vo running, put some contacts in, etc.
The things Ken has to do still are get an email address, subsequently set up
an Apple ID, synch his phone, etc. What order must he do these things in?
Does he have to use iTunes? If not, what can he do?

He will have limited help there, no one with full vision, and Ken just is
not tech savvy. He's getting the iPhone mostly for Siri, to have access to
texts, email, and the Internet. His friends that live with him have a
computer, but he doesn't use it, doesn't use JAWS.

2. What do the hearing options in accessibility do?

If I need to clarify anything, let me know.

Thank you.

I pre-ordered Friday morning around 5AM. I first tried ordering directly
from the apple web site. That was around 3AM. However, I couldn't complete
it because I needed my wife to help with a box that was not being spoken.
However, when I tried to go back in around 5AM when she wokeup, the delivery
time had changed to 2 weeks. I then went to verizon web site and pre-ordered
there. It is suppose to be delivered on the 21st. I got a 32GB for my wife,
and a 64GB for myself. I am switching from ATT. I have been with ATT for
many years now, and didn't really want to switch. I did it because ATT does
not have LTE in my area yet. A few other reasons made me switch also.
However, I now know that you can't do voice and data simultaneously on
verizon network. I don't use it much, but I do want it. I guess something
has to be sacrificed one way or the other. The LTE access was more important
to me in this case.
