Changing emoji skin tones
I remember seeing a podcast from a couple years back about how to change skin tone on some of the emoji on the iPhone. Tried doing that today, both with standard typing and touch typing, but can’t seem to get it to work. Is this something that is broken? Or, has the method for doing it changed since then? Steph- Original Message -From: Michael FeirTo: viphone@googlegroups.comDate: Friday, March 23, 2018 09:41 PMSubject: Re: Vibrating battery packA perfectly fair question especially when there are much cheeper and lighter external batteries. Normally, there's no way to tell how much charge is in an ordinary battery pack if you're totally blind. Charge is usually indicated by small lights found on the surface of the battery pack. These lights can also indicate when the battery is being charged or when it's charging something successfully connected to it.The vibrating and beeping battery is certainly heavier and larger than others which may hold more power. However, 15000 MA is enough for multiple charges of an iPHONE and other accessories. More than enough power for most circumstances where you'd need it. Since the battery vibrates in short pulses to indicate the level of charge, you can know how full it is and adjust plans accordingly. If it vibrates four times in a row when the button on it is pressed, you have over seventy-five percent of total power. If it vibrates twice, you have fifty percent or less remaining. It also vibrates to indicate when you plug it in to charge. This way, you will know for certain that it's charging and not find out later that the power brick was loose or something had gone wrong with the USB cable. No more finding out when you most need it that your battery pack has no charge or far less than you had thought. The other circumstance this battery helps you to avoid is when you think you've plugged something in to charge from the battery but actually haven't done so correctly. Perhaps, you're in a rush and want to charge your iPHONE in your pocket while it's not needed. When you successfully connect it to the battery, you'll receive an audible or vibration indicator that the batttery is charging what you've plugged in. This can be very useful when you're charging accessories such as headsets or Bluetooth keyboards which don't indicate when they're charging in a detectable way for blind people.Another very nice thing about this battery is what it doesn't have in it. Namely, a damned useless flashlight. I've had situations with other battery packs where they've lost a lot of their charge due to my unknowingly having activated the flashlight in them. "Why is your bag glowing?" Is a question I've been asked more than once over the years. Not so with the battery from the Harbolt company. Those are the reasons I bought one and would buy another if they're still available when this one starts to ware out. Hope that helps other people decide if that peace of mind is worth the admittedly higher price. Provided you have good upkeep habits and keep a regular battery charged up, you can certainly get by with an ordinary pack. If that's your choice, get one with more power than you think you'll need so there's some available should you forget to charge it. Your iPHONE certainly will vibrate and beep to let you know that it's charging and this can at least tell you that the battery is capable of charging other accessories which aren't as forthcoming with their battery status. On Fri, Mar 23, 2018 at 6:02 AM 'RobH.' via VIPhone wrote:Ok, hate to ask - why do we need a vibrating battery pack?Ta, R.- Original Message -From: "Teresa Christian" To: Sent: Friday, March 23, 2018 3:10 AMSubject: Re: Vibrating battery packThe Harbolt Company has the vibrating battery charger featured on the home page.harboltcompany.comHTHTeresa☺On 3/22/18, Mr. Ed wrote:> Hi All,>> Someone on this list was telling about a 15000 m a vibrating battery pack.> I> lost the email on it and cannot find or remember the name of the battery> pack. Keyboard cases for ipad mini
Hi all, I have a logitek keyboard for my ipad mini. Not sure what I think yet. I cant seem to where out how to use it. It's paired, and I can type ok, but how do I navigate with it? The standard vo stuff that I'm used too with a mac doesn't work, or pher it's the location of the keys? Also, the case doesn't seem so stable to me. I'd like something sturdy and light that I can use for travelling. Thanks for any help. I have blind square and navigon. What about using one of those batery cases with the phone? Steph - Original Message - From: Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca To: viphone@googlegroups.com Date: Saturday, October 18, 2014 2:39 am Subject: RE: trekker vs. apps? Allen, The Seeing Eye GPS app announces intersection just like the Maestro or Breeze do. I used to own a Maestro and later had MobileGeo which basically is the same but was designed for the old Windows Mobile platform and one thing I found even then when the information was updated was that a lot of POI's that the Trekker announced were not actually correct or even there any more. It seemed it was using outdated information even back then and given how fast businesses change these days I would guess that in most cases the POI information nowadays is pretty useless. I think here accessing online maps which get updated much more often is the way to go. It will depend on your needs. If you are going to be out and about all day long and require a GPS system, then you would be better off with a Trekker and save your battery power for your iPhone. The GPS in the iPhone will really suck up the battery. On the other hand, if you just want a GPS app for just in case, then an iPhone GPS app will probably due. The Trekker however uses maps with more points of interest then some of the GPS apps and offers announcement of each street your passing by such as Jones street on your left or 3 way crossing. Jones street on your left, Smith road in front and Jones street on your right. This tells you that Jones street runs left and right and it assumes you know the street your already on. Far more detailed then many iPhone apps. So again, it will depend on your needs which way will be the best. Regards, Alan Go Chicago Bears in 2014! It read the page of a book perfectly, and it read a letter I received in the mail. The feedback one gets via vibration to line up the picture is incredibly helpful. The first several devices were not at all accessible to the blind. Therefore, your argument does not hold up to what actually happens. The fact is, we are a very tiny group of people. At work, we have a water filtration system which has multiple settings. the system announces which type of water is coming out when it is started. It does not announce the setting when being set. We have a few pieces of tape on the face of the machine so I can find the start button. My microwave oven has no announcements whatsoever. We marked the touch panel with dots on the buttons, but I have no way of knowing for certain what I have pressed until it is finished. The same is true with our washing machine and dryer. It is unfair to those of us who are blind, but we are not a viable market for any mainstream product. Therefore, any bugs which effect VoiceOver only are not major or showstopers for over 99% of Apple's market And yet, Apple spends $35 per every iPhone sold for accessibility. This is what was stated in April at a shareholder meeting by Tim Cook. This is not an insignificant amount of money. Now that the beta cycle is complete, send in those bug reports. The minor VO only bugs can now be worked on more by Apple. Oh, and as to the question about why doesn't Apple wait until all minor bugs are fixed? Well, it is impossible to fix all bugs, so Apple would fall behind as a company if they stop innovating in today's world. The majority of those who buy products tend to purchase those products with the most innovative useful features. For example, we just purchased a robotic vacuum. We found a model which the base/recharging station empties the dirt from the robot cleaner. This way, we only need to empty the dust from the bin in the base station once a month or so. Much better than emptying the robot's little dust cup after every use. Oh, and the robot needs to be programmed by the sighted person. It does not have a blind-accessible interface. Fortunately, the robotic lawnmower we are planning to purchase next year has an iPhone app that appears to be accessible. Would your company philosophy be that as long as it works for sighted people it will be released even though it is not yet ready for people who are blind? I don't expect it to be perfect, but I see no reason why it is not just as stable for me as it is for my wife. Why am I assumed to be impatient if I think people who are blind should have equal access? Equal access means it works equally for both populations when it is released. accessible alternatives to facebook app
Hi all, Follow on from this thread, I'd like to suggest an app that I'd found, but also hear people's experiences with the other apps mentioned in the below post. It's called cake reader and it is a simple facebook app that has the timeline in it. You can like posts, comment on posts. one bug is that when you post, some times it just sits there even though it's posted. You just cancel out of it and you can continue reading your timeline. I'd tried facely hd, but it kept jumping all the time, and it seems rather slow on my 4s. Steph - Original Message - From: Brett brettst...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com viphone@googlegroups.com Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2014 8:07 pm Subject: Re: Facebook apps please! GHi I am being kicked out after reading three posts in my most recent timeline. I am now using Status report to view my FB timeline. A couple of other apps you could look at which give a more fuller fb experience are Facely HD, Hootsuit and Echofon for facebook. Note I haven't used these for quite some time, so I don't know how good or accessible they are these days. One thing I have noticed about the thirdparty apps is that they don't seem to grab every post in your timeline, so you might miss a few posts, but you do get to skip some of the Fb advertisments, such as the suggested groups etc. Hope this helps, Brett. Re: BraillePen 12 Touch
I have the braille pen, but not the touch. It's quite good, although i miss the routing buttons. Steph - Original Message - From: Amy Harris aharr...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Date: Sunday, May 4, 2014 3:04 am Subject: BraillePen 12 Touch Hi all. Has anyone used the BraillePen 12 Touch, the one with the routing touch areas above each braille cell? I'd like to know whether it is worth buying one to work with my iDevices? Also, I think the answer is no, but just to double-check, does the BraillePen 12, not the new Touch version but the regular version, have cursor buttons above its braille cells, or do you use buttons/joysticks to move the cursor on that model? I'd like to be able to push a button over the braille cell, or, in the case of the BraillePen 12 Touch, touch an area over the braille cell, to place my cursor there. Re: fictionwise ebooks
I would if I could download it here in the Australian app store. - Original Message - From: Ann cradlingarm...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com viphone@googlegroups.com Date: Thursday, December 26, 2013 2:07 am Subject: Re: fictionwise ebooks Happy holidays, I went to that website earlier this morning, and found it not to be very accessible. You're better off just using the regular Barnes Noble application. Re: kobo book
How do I set it up? I cant seem to sign up for an account. - Original Message - From: Anne Robertson annefromo...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com viphone@googlegroups.com viphone@googlegroups.com Date: Wednesday, December 25, 2013 5:27 pm Subject: Re: kobo book Hello Steph, You buy Kobo books from the Kobo site and you can read them with either the Kobo app on your IOS device or on your computer with Adobe Digital Editions. The Kobo app is accessible but has to be set up correctly and the way to do this keeps changing. Once it is set up correctly, you need never worry about it again as the settings are remembered. In Kobo, you can only read continuously one chapter at a time. I happen to like this. You double tap the link at the bottom right of the screen at the end of a chapter to go on to the next chapter.
