Using Chat GPT, and other Apss

2024-04-13 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

First of all, please know that I am not trying to start anything, with
the questions that I am about to ask. I honestly want to understand how
these things can be of help to me. But, not do all of the work for me.

I am curious, does anyone here use Chat GPT? Or, Microsoft Co-Pilot?

Not sure I spelled that last one correctly.

If anyone here does use these Apps, or any others I might not be aware
of, how accessible are they?

Also, what might you use them for?

I am currently attending a local community college. My goal is to
hopefully get my Masters degree. I am a long way off from this though,
and life could go in a totally different direction. I am also an older
student. I don't even know if I will ever have a career.

Anyway, one thing I would like to use Chat GPT for, is to get help with
my writing. I never really learned how to write papers in high school. I
feel so behind in this area. I am told all the time that I need to kind
of learn to BS my way through stuff.

However, I am not at all good with that sort of thing.

Please understand, I do not want to cheat! Or, plagiarize anything. I
really just want to use AI to help me with this huge struggle. I want
help with structure, and all that. But, I want to make the paper my own.
And, make changes where necessary.

However, I also want to make use of these Apps, in other ways as well,
if this can be beneficial for me. I just don't know enough, to know what
I might be missing out on. I know we do have to be careful, when using
any sort of AI. And, we need to be smart about what we do. I just think
though that all of this stuff can really benefit us in a lot of ways.

Thank you to anyone who has read this. Any thoughts, or advice will be
very much appreciated.

Terri

Questions regarding notifications on locked screen

2023-09-27 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

Since the latest IOS update, I have been having a small issue. I do not
know how to fix it.

I receive a lot of notifications on my phone, as I am sure many of us do.

However, now when I get a notification, and my screen is locked, instead
of just getting the notification sound, I get the announcement of the
notification, as well. Eventually, the phone does lock again.

What can I do to stop this from happening?

I don't expect this to be perfect, as sometimes the phone just gets a
bit chatty. But this is new, and just a bit annoying. Especially, when I
am in class. Most of the time my volume is down, and most people don't
know what my phone is saying anyway. But still, I would like to not have
this issue, if at all possible.

What do you all think?

Is it possible to fix this?

Thank you,

Terri

Just a few upgrade questions, and other comments

2023-09-24 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

First of all, I have really appreciated reading the thoughts, and
opinions on the new phones. As well as peoples experiences with them, in
the stores. I always find this sort of stuff helpful.

I am considering upgrading my phone. At first, I wasn't going to do it.
I love my 12 mini. It's smaller, and pretty easy for me to hold. It
still works quite well, and I really don't have any issues with it.

However, I get my phone service with T-Mobile. If I were to upgrade now,
it would be better for me, then if I were to wait another year or so.
Right now, I can trade in this phone, and it will help go toward the
cost of my next phone. I really don't want to have to trade in this
phone. But this is the way I have to go about these sorts of things, if
I ever want to upgrade.

My battery in my phone is degrading. I actually have a service message
on it, that states that I need to replace the battery. So I could do
that, and use this phone for longer. But a part of me thinks that it is
just better to go ahead and do the upgrade instead.

I would be interested to hear what people think about this. I know some
of this will be opinion. That is fine by me.

However, some of you on this list know way much more about these sorts
of things than I do. That is something I have really come to appreciate
over the years. It is a big part as to why I remain a part of this list.

I plan to go to my local store within the next week, or so. I want to
hold the 15 plus, and the 15 pro. I want to explore them, and see which
one I might be most comfortable with.

I was also considering checking out the 14 pro. Just so that I would
know all of my options. I am not interested in the pro, max phones. That
would just be too large of a device for me.

I really like the idea of having a phone that uses USB C charging.

However, what sorts of charging blocks might I need?

I am not sure if I have what I need, to support that type of charging. I
know I at least have one. I usually try to buy dual charging blocks,
because I have so many devices, that this just works better for me. Or,
I have friends that come over, who need to charge their stuff.

I am really looking forward to possibly getting a pro, just for the
camera. I never in my life thought that i would want a phone, for it's
camera.

However, the new feature with Be My Eyes, has been a game changer for
me. I use it quite regularly. At least, once a day. Usually a lot more
than that though. I am still not always the best at taking a picture. I
hope that this might improve in time. I just don't always understand
how, or where to aim the camera.

Are the cameras really all that different from the 12 Mini I have now,
to the 14 pro, or the 15 pro?

I really want to make the best choice possible for myself. But of
course, I won't know really what to expect, until I go to the store.

What do you all think?

Any thoughts, or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: today's Apple Event

2023-09-13 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello Sieghard, and list.

Are you really all that surprised?

Or, were you being sarcastic?

I feel that there are not a lot of messages on the releases, like there
once was, because really not much has changed. Some changes, certainly.
But nothing grand, I don't think.

I am actually trying to decide if I want to upgrade my phone, or just
replace it's battery. The battery needs to be replaced. But I like this
phone quite a bit.

I have the 12 mini.

Thank you,

Terri

Wondering about WeightWatchers App

Questions regarding my Apple watch

2023-08-21 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I just have a quick question, or two, regarding my Apple watch.

Is there a way to set it, or a way to enable it, so that the watch won't
speak, if the face is touched?

Or, just if I move my arm in a certain way?

This always seems to be happening to me. Which in most cases is fine.

However, I will be attending college soon, and I do not want my watch
going off all the time. The yammering would not be appreciated by
others, that is for sure. LOL!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

My Seri voice has changed

2023-06-08 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

A couple of days ago, I noticed that my Seri voice had changed. I used
to have this pretty cool British voice, that I very much liked.

I recently updated my iPhone to the latest update. This was about a week
ago. Although, it may have been a bit less time than that.

Also, I just recently set up my new iPad, and made sure it was up to
date as well. When I set up my iPad, I did this as a restore from iCloud
backup.

It was not long after I set up my iPad, and used my phone that I noticed
what had happened. I thought at first it was something that would
correct itself after a day, or so.

However, this has not been the case. And, this morning when I looked
through my phone to try and set the seri voice back to how I had it, I
couldn't even seem to find this voice as an option. Of course, I don't
quite know which one it was. But I would know it if I heard it.

So with this latest update, did we lose some voices?

Or is it possibly something else?

Any thoughts, or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Looking for a Bluetooth, keyboard case recommendation for latest generation of iPad

2023-05-28 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

My subject pretty much says it all. I am in need of some recommendations for a
Bluetooth, keyboard case, for the latest generation of iPad.

I received an iPad, and I am wanting to get a really good case for it. But I
would like to have one that is a keyboard as well. If this is even possible. I
have been trying to research what is out there. I see that there are some Apple
cases, that are also keyboards. But I want to make sure I get something that's
going to be accessible as well.

Any thoughts, or advice is much appreciated. This is the regular iPad. I hope
that helps. I'm not quite sure how to classify that. But it's not the pro, or
the mini. So I figured that made the best sense.

Thank you,

Looking for accessible GPS App

2023-03-15 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, is there an accessible GPS App that I could use with my
iPhone?

It doesn't matter so much if it is free, or if I have to pay for it.

I am looking for something that can show me what is around.

But also, a way to know where possible sidewalks are. But I am uncertain
as to whether or not such a thing exists.

I am wanting to be able to walk to the rec center that is only about a
4th of a mile from my home.

However, I don't know if this is even possible.

Any thoughts, or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Have you Gone Wireless, Yet?

2023-01-08 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello Mark, and list,

First of all, I appreciate your thoughts, and questions. I like the
discussions, and thoughts from others that can end up happening. It's
helpful at times.

For me personally, I absolutely love my Beats wireless earbuds. I use
them quite regularly. I can't always use them every day though, because
they can cause my ears to hurt. Also, I think they cause me headaches at
times, as well. So I do have to be careful with them.

I never thought I would spend so much on headphones, especially earbuds.
In my mind, spending that much money on such a thing just really makes
no sense. I can't explain really why I feel that way. But then I bought
these, and they are one of my most favorite things. I make sure to try
and take really good care of them.

I can understand why some people still might want to use wired
headphones. And I am glad to know that they are still quite readily
available. I think the options should be there for people.

I enjoy using my Beats, because I am able to go around my apartment,
getting things done, that I need to do, quite easily. I've learned to
navigate pretty well, with the earbuds in. I just really love the
convenience they offer me. Plus, I love how easy it can be to answer
calls, or texts if I need to do so. Although, I do realize that this
doesn't matter if they are wireless, or not. I think it is just nice
that they aren't tethered to my phone. I will say that at first this
felt odd, if I walked away and left my phone on my table. But I am
getting more used to doing this now.

Also, probably about two years ago now, I bought some cheap, wireless,
over the ear headphones from Amazon. They have pretty good sound for me,
and for what I use them to do. I mainly use them to listen to my audio
books. They aren't really good to use when answering calls.

Anyway, I enjoy them as well. I love how they are over the ear, and not
necessarily earbuds. Even though they can be a bit bulky. And they can
get hot on my ears, sometimes. But I love the portability they offer.
They also fold up. So even though they are bigger, they can be easy to
take along with me. So that is really nice.

Anyway, I don't know how helpful all this is. LOL! This is all just my
personal thoughts, and opinions. But hopefully it helped someone. I just
enjoy the convenience, and portability, and flexability.

Thank you,

Terri

Hello All,

For the last 6-months or so, perhaps longer, while the Lightening port on my
replacement 8 Plus still functioned as expected, it lost the ability to
retain a cable, unassisted. This is to say, when I hold the phone in
portrait mode, perpendicular to the ground, any attached cable will fall
out.

I am certain that I was the blame for this as I used to frequently roll onto
the phone, when sleeping; very often tangling the cable with tension for
hours at a time. (How's that for too much information? (smile)).

My point, I am determined not to ruin the Lightening port on my 14.

With that in mind, I am doing my best to wing myself from the wired Ear Pods
in favor of Apple Air Pods.

Even though I like Air Pods and they are definitely more convenient to use
than the wired alternative, I still find myself reaching for the wired pair,
more than anything else.

I was just wondering how many of you have gone completely wireless having
all but abandoned the wired Ear Pods?

It is interesting because when I go to Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc. I
always see wired Ear Pods, with either the Lightening or audio connector,
readily available.

All replies appreciated.

Moving Apple cash to my bank account

2022-09-27 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, is it possible to move any Apple cash you have, to your
bank account?

If so, how might I go about doing this?

My friend says it can be done. And if they go and view their cash, after
their  list of transactions, they have an option to transfer.

However, I don't have this as an option. I don't understand why.

Do I somehow have to add in my bank account?

Any help would be much appreciated. This is rather frustrating.

Thank you,

Terri

I updated my iPhone 12 Mini yesterday, to IOS 16. It all went very smoothly for
me, which I am very thankful for. I haven't really ran into any problems.
Such as, the different bugs I have read about.

However, I just discovered a huge problem, and I don't know if there is
anything I can do about it.

My banking App is now not as accessible. I can see my accounts, and what money
is available.

However, when I go into an account to view the transactions, I get a lot of
different images, and words such as coupon, and other words. None of it makes
much sense, in all honesty.

I tried turning on screen recognition to see if this would make much of a
difference. I could then see some of the transactions. But this didn't seem to
happen consistently. Also, everything kind of seem ran together.

There are tabs at the bottom of the screen. I can still view these.

However, when I choose one, then all the buttons are images, and words again.
This was nether the case before.

What can I do, if anything?

I will definitely reach out to Apple. As well as my bank.

But might anyone have any thoughts as to how I can possibly use the App, until
it is back closer to the way it was?

This is rather frustrating. But even more, this is an App that I most
definitely need to be able to use, with as much ease as possible.

Thank you,

Terri

Hello everyone,

I have looked for an update to my bank. But at the moment one has not
been released.

I use a credit union called, Together. It's here throughout Missouri. It
might be in other states as well. I am just not sure.

I did reach out to my bank, and am currently waiting to hear back from
someone. So hopefully this will happen soon.

Thank you,

Hello Dennis, and list,

I don't care for it at all! I think it sounds just as muffled on my

not something I will use.

However, with that said, I am glad that it is an option for people who

Re: Novelty voices

2022-09-13 Thread Terri Stimmel

Shirley,

First of all, thank you for making me laugh. I really appreciate that. I
thought your reaction to the novelty voices was funny.

However, I totally agree with you. I mean, I can understand, and can
even appreciate people loving the novelty voices. If that is what you
are used to dealing with, then I git it.

But I will admit I don't fully understand why they need to be options on
the iPhone. I mean, they don't sound all that clear. Some of them seem
quite difficult to make out. They sound rather odd!

Maybe if you are used to listening to your speech quite slow, then those
voices sound better? I really don't know. But that is a guess.

Right now, I am using one of the Serie voices as my main voice. It
sounds pretty clear to me, and understandable. In the past, I have used
Alex, and Samantha.

I have to be careful with what I use though, because I feel that the
voices are not clear enough, and can sound distorted. I am not quite
sure what causes this to happen. But this is partly why I don't use Alex
any longer.

Anyway, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the voices. I appreciate
hearing what you, and others here on the list have to say.

Thank you,

Terri

Question regarding Libby

2022-08-01 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I have heard of Libby before. But I haven't ever attempted to use it.

However, after reading about Mark's experience with it, I thought I
would download it, and give it a try.

I have a question though, that I hope someone can answer.

If I am able to search my library, and find audiobooks I want to read,
how do I actually listen to them?

And, if they are on hold, does this mean I can't get one, until a
physical copy is available?

I am slightly confused as to how this works. Any thoughts, or
suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Hello Everyone,

After reading several posts, here on the list, I decided to really give
Libby, the public library app for borrowing both audiobook and e-books, a
try.

Until this point, I've been a big fan of Over Drive.

Well, after forcing myself to delete the Over Drive app from all of my
devices, I must admit that Libby does seem to have more to offer for those
of us using VoiceOver.

The feature I like most about Libby is that now one's book location is
synchronized across all associated devices. This behavior has long been a
feature of both Kindle and Audible. Now, if only the BARD app would add
this feature .

I have contacted Libby tech support to see if there is a way to search a
libraries catalog via the book description field either instead of or, in
addition to, the book title field. For example, I may want to search a
catalog for all books with the phrase and/or words, "lost at sea," in the
book description. I hope this is possible.

One feature that I cannot seem to locate in Libby that was / is a part of
Over Drive is the ability to see titles similar to any given title,
currently in focus.

For example, If I have the book, The Davinci Code" in focus, I would like to
see similar titles listed, as well. In Over Drive, six similar titles were
always displayed with any book in focus.

Just as an FYI, I received a notice, yesterday, that Over Drive will be
discontinued in 2023 so the developers are strongly recommending that
everyone switch to Libby.

Mark

Making an App more accessible

2022-07-10 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

What are some of the best ways to reach out to an App developer, about
making their App more accessible?

I haven't ever attempted to do this sort of thing. I don't have a lot of
confidence in doing such a thing. But there is an App I would like to be
able to use. It is somewhat accessible.

However, there are areas that could really use some improvements. I
would like to reach out to the developer and share my concerns. Also,
what I think needs to be worked on.

But it is very important to me to state what I am needing/wanting,
without being ugly. Or with just saying something like, this isn't
working for me. Sometimes though, I can find it difficult to express why
it might not work, or what changes might need to be made.

Could anyone who has much more experience with doing such things, please
give me some pointers?

I would really appreciate this.

Thank you,

Terri

So, thanks again. It's much appreciated.

I have successfully used Goodreads on my iPhone for a number of years. Its
only drawback, as far as I'm concerned, is that while you can specify most

found a way to indicate that the book I read was a Braille or audio

Using the Good Reads App

2022-06-20 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

Has anyone here successfully been able to use the Good Reads App?

If so, how easy would you say, has it been to use?

Also, where do you find problems with it?

I would really like to use this App, if it is at all accessible. I tried
it about a year, or so ago, and it really wasn't. But things can change.

Any thoughts, or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Using scanning software to find dates on products

2022-04-26 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I have the iPhone 12 Mini. I wasn't sure if knowing this would be helpful, or
not.

However, I am trying to organize my freezer, and make sure I try to work on not
purchasing items we might already have. It's amazing how often this can happen,
if you aren't careful. It can be easy to forget what you may already have. LOL!

Anyway, I use both VoiceDream Scanner, and Seeing AI, to read packages. I am
still not the best with being able to use either of this. But the more I
practice, the easier it seems to get. I still can struggle to know what to do
with the camera.

But I was wondering, is there an easy way to be able to find the use by dates,
on food items?
Are any of you successful with such things, on a regular basis?
If so, could you please offer tips on how to do this?

Any help is much appreciated. If I have friends that can help me, I do take
advantage of this. But the help is limited.

Thank you,

Terri

Bluetooth keyboards for iPads

2022-04-07 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I am possibly getting an iPad for my birthday. Although, I am not 100
percent sure about this. I have wanted one for a while now. But I can do
most things I want to do, on my phone. Plus, I don't really know how
having one might help me.

However, I certainly will make the best use of one, if it is something I
get for my birthday.

With all that said, does anyone know if they make bluetooth keyboards,
that fit over an iPad?

I guess that would likely be more of a keyboard case?

I know years ago, they used to make something like this. As when I had
an iPad Mini, for a short time, I had one of those.

My other question is this.

If you can use a bluetooth, keyboard case with an iPad, are there
commands you can use, so that you aren't always having to use the screen?

I think my hesitation with having an iPad, is that I know how slow I am,
when it comes to a touch screen. I can do quite a bit with my phone. And
I use it all the time. But when it comes to typing on it, I am rather
slow at it. No amount of practice over the years, has really changed
this. So I know it will be this way for me, if I am trying to use an
iPad. As often as I can, I use my bluetooth keyboard with my phone, to
type. Or I dictate.

Any thoughts, or suggestions would be much appreciated. I would likely
be getting an iPad Mini. As this is what I have talked about wanting, in
the past.

Thank you,

Terri

Looking for accessible language learning Apps

2022-03-10 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I can't remember if this was recently asked here, or not. If so, I do
apologize. I know I saw similar questions somewhere.

Anyway, I am looking for an accessible App, to help me possibly learn a
new language. I am most interested in learning Chinese, Spanish, and
maybe one other as well. I don't know how possible any of this is. But I
just really want to try it, rather or not it works out.

I want an App where the learning is done through interaction. Not just
studying, or trying to do a lot of memorizing.

Also, I don't mind purchasing an App. Or paying to learn the languages.
But I would like the App to be quite accessible, and easy to use, if
possible.

What do you all think? Does what I am looking for, even exist?

Thank you,

Terri

Questions regarding Powerbeats Pro

2022-01-09 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I just recently purchased a set of Powerbeats Pro. I absolutely love
them! I wasn't quite sure I ever wanted such a thing. I couldn't
conceive of spending that much money on earbuds, or earphones. But then
I had a chance to check them out, and I decided to get them. It was so
worth it to me.

I love how incredibly easy they were to set up with my iPhone. I also
love the charging case, and how after a five minute charge, you have an
hour and a half of usage. Not to mention, they have a wonderful sound to
them.

But I do have a couple of questions. I am not really sure if any of you
will have answers for me, or not. These questions aren't really
regarding how the Beats work.

But for those of you who use these, how did you go about adjusting the
hooks?

How did you make them more comfortable of a fit?

My right Beat feels like it is a tighter fit into my ear. And it hurts
more, and a lot quicker than the Beat in my left ear. I want to adjust
them. But I certainly do not want to damage them.

Also, are the tips supposed to kind of be bent down?

Those are not adjustable, correct?

Any help is much appreciated. I hope I will get to enjoy these for quite
a long time.

Thank you,

Terri

Questions regarding smart bulbs, and Apps

2022-01-09 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I am thinking it is ok to ask this here. But if not, please just let me
know.

Anyway, we are hoping to purchase some smart bulbs for our place. We
want to use them in our bathroom, and in our kitchen. As well as in a
couple of lamps, if at all possible.

However, I don't know much about them. So I have started researching
them. We have Alexa. So we would want them to work with that. Or be
enabled with Alexa.

However, my concern is the Apps that go along with a lot of these bulbs,
or any other device. Such as, smart plugs. I am concerned about making a
purchase. Then having to download an App that won't be accessible to me.
I would need to be able to use the App with my iPhone 12 Mini.

Does anyone have some thoughts, or suggestions?

I would really appreciate some feedback.

Thank you,

Terri

Regarding Your Fire TV, and the current upgrade

2021-12-19 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello Merv,

This is Terri. I wanted to contact you and ask a question, regarding
something you had said in a message to the iPhone list.

You had mentioned an upgrade to your Fire TV, that allows you to now
stream from an Apple device.

Is this correct? Did I understand this correctly?

If so, how does this work?

I was really hoping at some point, this would become possible. But I
really didn't think it would. Anything you can tell me would be much
appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Problems with the Walmart App

2021-12-09 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

As many of you probably know, a while back a major update was done to
the Walmart App. I think some of the changes were good.

However, as with most things, some were not. In some ways, I now find
the App a bit more difficult to use.

For instance, when I would be ordering groceries, I sometimes like to
click on a particular item, and read the details on it. Or especially
read the nutrition information.

However, I can no longer seem to be able to do this. I think I may know
why, thanks to something a friend told me.

Apparently, instead of having tabs that I could view, to see either the
details, or nutrition facts, it is all now photos. Of course, this isn't
at all helpful if you are totally blind.

So is there possibly anything I can do about this?

I am not one to complain to a company, really. I haven't ever reached
out to a developer about their App. I don't know really how to begin to
express why this is a problem, in a way that might be helpful.

Is this something that I possibly should do?

If so, what are some ways I should go about it?

I would really like to hear from some of you who have a lot more
experience with this.

Also, if I don't reach out regarding the App, is there possibly a way to
view the information that might be in any of the product photos? Some
way that won't be complicated, and add a bunch more steps, to just
trying to get groceries ordered?

Any thoughts, and help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Looking for an App to record audio of a concert

2021-12-04 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, can anyone tell me of some good Apps that I might be
able to use, to be able to record the audio of a concert?

I only want this for myself, and for my own memories. But I would like
the sound quality to be as decent as possible. Of course, I won't know
what sorts of noise will be happening around me. Or just how far I will
be from the stage.

But any thoughts or suggestions on Apps for the iPhone, that I could
use, would be very much appreciated. It doesn't matter if they are free,
or there is a cost. Also, I have an iPhone 12 Mini, that is up to date.
I wasn't sure if this mattered or not. But I thought I would throw it
out there, just in case.

Thank you,

Terri

Question about Apple watch, series 7

2021-10-13 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

So I am wanting to upgrade my watch. I currently have a series 5. I am
interested in the series 6.

However, when I was looking on the Apple store, the series 7 seems
cheaper. I don't know why this is the case. But if this is accurate,
thththen I will likely upgrade to the series 7.

So here is my question.

Are the series 7 watches only 41 MM, or 45 MM cases?

I have a 40 MM case now, and I would like to stick with this, if at all
possible. Only, because I have the Melanese loop band.

Any thoughts, or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Removing an Echo Dot, from within the Alexa App

2021-08-10 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I need to remove one of my Echo Dots. I don't want to de-register it. I
just need to remove it from my device list. We aren't using it any longer.

I googled instructions on how to do this. I am supposed to be able to
use the Alexa App, go into settings, all devices, and then go to the
device I want to remove. There is supposed to be a delete button. Well
it states, trash can.

However, I can't find a way to remove this Dot.

Has anyone tried this before?

If so, what kind of luck did you have?

I think maybe this button isn't accessible, or just doesn't even show up.

Can anyone possibly offer any help?

Thank you,

Terri

What is screen recognition

2021-08-10 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I noticed a while back, that under my settings, and voiceover, that
there is a setting for screen recognition.

What exactly is this?

How does it work?

And how can it come in handy?

I turned it on, and I chose a few Apps for it to work with. But that's
as far as I got. I realized I didn't really know how it could help.

Anything anyone can share would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Re: prime video channels

2021-06-05 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

First of all, Prime Video is definitely a part of Amazon. As to whether
or not you can subscribe to Prime Video channels without having Amazon
Prime, I can't speak to that. I pay for Amazon Prime. So I have Prime
Video. And I have a few different monthly subscriptions for some of the
Prime Video channels. I find the channels that I am subscribed to, more
accessible than the actual Apps. So this is why I have chosen to go this
route.

I wouldn't think though that you could use Prime Video, or the Prime
Video channels without purchasing an Amazon Prime subscription.
Something tells me that Amazon wouldn't be that giving. LOL!

I do have one question though.

Does anyone know if you can receive audio description when using some of
the Prime Video channels?

For instance, one of the channels I am subscribed to is, Paramount Plus.
The App is a pain! Both on my iPhone, and on my Fire TV. But the
Paramount Plus channel is much easier to deal with.

I can't figure out though if I can access the audio description for some
of the shows through Paramount Plus, that I know offer this.

So does anyone else know?

Thank you,

Terri

How can I be sure that there programs are audio described?  For

Side note, how can I find on prime video things – mainly tv shows –
that have audio description?

Thanks,

Looking for color identifier Apps

2021-06-04 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

Can any of you recommend an easy to use, but pretty accurate, color
identifier App?

I don't mind purchasing an App. As long as it is quite accessible. Also,
I am not the best at being able to use my camera. So something pretty
simple, or with some guidance would be great.

I am looking for an App that can identify lots of differing colors, and
shades. If such a thing is possible.

Any help is much appreciated. Please tell me some things you like about
this app. And how accurate you think it is. And if it is something that
you use regularly.

Thank you,

Terri

Doordash App

2021-04-25 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello again everyone,

This is for you all that might use the Doordash App.

Have you all noticed that for a while now, the App doesn't seem as
accessible?

Not that it was ever 100 percent accessible. But I feel it used to be
much better. I can't seem to scroll through the list of restaurants
anymore. It seems as though the App keeps refreshing or something. It is
very annoying! We use this App sometimes several times a month. So it
makes it a problem when I struggle to use it.

I have also noticed that I struggle to add items to the cart, when I am
trying to work with previous orders we have placed.

However, I have gotten this to work a few times.

What has been your experiences with the App lately?

And are there possible work arounds I am not aware of.

I do use the search feature, when I know exactly what restaurant we want
to order from.

Thank you,

Terri

Considering purchasing an iPad

2021-04-25 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I am considering purchasing an iPad. I am trying to decide it is really
what I want to do. I had an iPad Mini, several years ago. I can do a lot
on my phone, and I use it all the time.

However, sometimes I don't want to have to use my phone all the time. I
still enjoy using my laptop. So I am just trying to decide what I should do.

My first question is this.

When using the iPad, is the screen still set up in columns?

If so, is there still not a way to turn this off?

That was one of my biggest complaints with the iPad before.

Also, are there bluetooth keyboard cases out now, for the iPad Mini?

If I do decide to make this purchase, I will likely go with the Mini.

Thank you,

Terri

Interesting discovery with Voiceover, and the Alex voice

2021-04-24 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I have the iPhone 12 mini. I have had it for a few months now. I love
it! Before I got it, I was using the 10 XR.

Anyway, I have noticed something odd. I can't say for certain when I
first noticed it. And I am also not quite sure if it is somehow my
phone, or the Voiceover voice of Alex.

But I have noticed that some words sound odd to me. I can't think of any
examples at the moment. And for this I do apologize. It seems though
that letters sound as though they are dropped. Or that the word is not
written correctly. Now I do tend to mis-spell a good deal, and I have to
go back and correct stuff.

However, the other day i was sending a text with a word in it that ended
in the letters E, D. I can't remember what the word was now, or I would
have just written it. But when I read my text back to make sure it was
correct, I had to view the word character by character, to make sure it
was correct.

It was. But Alex spoke it as though the d wasn't there.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Does it happen with other voices?

I have tried other voices in the past. But I always come back to Alex.
It used to seem clearer to me.

What do you all think?

Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Removing downloaded voices

2021-03-10 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I downloaded some Voiceover voices to try them out.

However, I didn't like a couple of them.

So is it possible to remove them? And if so, how?

I don't want them taking up space on my phone.

Thank you,

Terri

2 separate questions regarding Voicedream

2021-02-13 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I have 2 separate questions regarding Voicedream.

First of all, I currently have Voicedream Reader. As well as, Voicedream
scanner.

For now, can I use both of these Apps separately?

Does anyone know if eventually this will not be the case?

And if so, would I then have to purchase a pack with both reader, and
scanner together?

My other question is this.

I use reader for different things. But mainly I use it for reading my
audiobooks.

I have noticed in the last week, that sometimes when I start my book
playing, it will stop playing if I lock the screen. One of the things I
like about reader, is that I can lock the screen. There are times I
still can. But lately more times than not, I have to leave my phone
unlocked.

Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Is it new? And is this something I am likely going to have to put up with?

I thought I would ask. I am hoping it's just something strange with my
phone. Although, I highly doubt it.

Thank you,

Terri

Connecting my TV App with my other Apps

2021-01-29 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I wasn't quite sure how to make this subject. So I hope it makes sense.
If not, please feel free to ask questions.

First of all, I currently have Apple TV free for the year. I got it when
I got my new phone a few months back. I don't know if knowing this is
helpful, or not. So I thought I would include it.

Anyway, I was viewing the TV App on my iPhone the other day. I can see
under my account, that I have connected Apps. Such as, Hulu.

What I would like to know is, how can I make sure all of my TV related
Apps show up there?

Is it possible to somehow link them with the TV App, if they don't show
up already?

Also, are there Apps that won't show up?

Such as, Netflix?

Any help understanding this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

watch screen protection

2020-12-30 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I got my Apple watch back in June. I have the series 5 model. It's the
40 MM model.

Not long after I received it, I got a case for it. Well, I guess you
could call it that. It snaps over the face of the watch. It covers the
screen, as well as the sides of the watch. But the crown and side button
are accessible, and are not covered.

Well a couple of months ago, I discovered a crack in this thing. I knew
I needed to replace it. So I started doing some research. I think I even
may have asked here. But I couldn't remember.

I found an autterbox case. So I purchased it.

However, it doesn't have a screen protector. Also, I can't tell if I put
it on over the face like this other cover went on. Or if I have to
remove the watch band first.

I am thinking I want to keep the autterbox case. But I want a screen
protector as well. I just don't have a clue as to what to look for.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thank you,

Terri

Logging in to the cloud, on my watch

2020-12-29 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

Due to me messing with the Apple ID and such for my account, I have ran
in to a problem. I am not quite sure how to fix this.

My watch is wanting me to log back in to the cloud. However, I am unable
to do this. I see where I can enter the password. But from what I can
tell, there is no way to enter the password. At least, not from the watch.

When I first tried to log in, I saw that a keyboard had popped up on my
phone. So I went to put in the password.

But I guess I moved my finger up to far on the screen, because then that
keyboard was gone. Now it doesn't come up, if I try to log in to the
cloud, from the watch.

So does anyone know what I can do, in order to take care of this?

Thank you,

Terri

Changing my Apple ID

2020-12-27 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, is it possible to change my Apple ID?

I looked in the settings and saw where all my acount settings were. Such
as, my ID, email addresses, payment information, and other things. I
tried to see if I could edit the ID. But if I could, then I just
couldn't figure it out.

What do you all think? Is this possible?

And if so, what might I need to be aware of, if I do this?

Thank you,

Re: Questions regarding Apple TV

2020-12-11 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello Reggie, and list,

Thank you for answering my questions. I really appreciate this.

However, this has lead to a few more questions. So I really hope someone
might have some thoughts.

Ok, let's say that I decide to purchase HBO Max. But I don't want to
have to use the App directly. But I know I have to have it installed.

If within the Apple TV App, can I search , and watch the content that is
offered through HBO Max?

Also, would I need to sign up for HBO Max with my Apple ID, in order for
all of this content to show up through Apple TV?

I am probably still a bit confused here. So any help is grately appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

youtube TV, etc. Now if I am incorrect on any of this please correct me

Changing speaking rate of voiceover voice

2020-12-08 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, is it possible to change the speaking rate of the

Right now, I have the Alex voice set to 60. But that's a bit too slow

However, 70 is just a bit too fast. So I would like to set it at 65, if
at all possible. But I wasn't sure how to do this. I tried, but it only
seems to move in 10's.

Any help is much appreciated.

Unlocking the iPhone 12 Mini

2020-12-06 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I just recently purchased the iPhone 12 Mini. I absolutely love it. I
love how small it is. I love how quickly it seems to respond. I like how
light it is. Although, that is taking some getting used to.

However, I am having a really tough time unlocking the phone. I'm not
really sure why this is. I never had problems like this with my XR. I am
thinking I just have to get used to the screen. But that's just a guess.

Can anyone please give me suggestions on how to unlock my phone?

If I have a notification showing on the lock screen, like a text, I can
just view the text. So then the phone is unlocked. But of course, I
never know when that's a possibility.

So this is frustrating!

Can anyone possibly help?

By the way, I am not using a pass code, or anything like that.

Thank you,

Terri

some things. I am trying to get better at understanding my watch, and
all the things I can do with it.

Ok, so I know I have the watch face. And I understand that there are
different watch faces I can have, with different complications on them.

So here is where I am a bit confused.

What is the difference between the watch face, and the home screen?

Now I know when I go to the home screen that I can see all my Apps. Well
several of them. And I can of course access them.

So is the watch face there just so you can see different things? Such as
the time, and your calendar, and so forth?

How can having several complications set up, come in handy?

I know this all might seem simple for most. And it is. I get the idea to
a point. I guess just somehow I am a bit confused. So any help is much
appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: What exactly is a widget?

2020-10-31 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

Thank you to all who responded to my questions. I really appreciate the
help. This has helped me to understand more what wigits are, and how
they work.

I don't plan to use them. I don't have any vision at all. While I can
see how they would be helpful for some people, I think they would just
frustrate me.

Also, what I was calling my main home screen, is the today screen. I
wasn't realizing that's what it was. So I was saying my main home screen.

On the today screen, I can see several different wigits. I think one is
for maps. But one is for my battery status.

I was wondering, can I remove wigits? Is this possible?

Or can I somehow make my today screen look differently, still showing
what I need, but without wigits?

Thank you all again for the help. This list really is a big help to me.
I do try to Google stuff at times. But as much as I know it can be
frustrating for some, it's easier just to ask here, and get responses
from others.

Thank you,

Terri

A widget is something you can place on your home page that will display some
information to you without opening the app. You could see the forecast for the
day with a weather app, or the newest podcast that's shown up with the widget
for your podcast app. Tapping on an widget can also behave differently then
tapping on an app.

All of the widgets I've tried have worked well with VoiceOver. Widgets aren't
as convenient for a blind person as they are for a sighted person, since you
still need to touch the screen and give a widget focus to see what it's telling
you, as opposed to a sighted person, who just has to glance at their screen to
get that information. I still find some widgets useful, but not as many as I do
on Android, where widgets seem a bit more mature to me, and you seem to have so
many more choices. Whether you'll find any widgets useful or not, especially on
one of your home pages, is something that only you'll be able to decide for
yourself.

In IOS 14, you have the option to add a widget to any home screen. They seem to
always take up a two by two grid, so you have to give up the real estate of
four app icons for one widget. The today screen, which is the screen to the
left of your first home page, has always been made up of widgets. The
difference in IOS 14 is that you can now place widgets on any home page. I
suspect that what you're calling your main home page is the today screen.

Re: What do you like about your apple watches?

2020-10-27 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello there,

I love mine! I'm still figuring it out, as I have only had it for a few
months now. I have the series 5. I didn't realize there was even an SE
version, until reading this thread.

I would have to agree with others, in regards to the battery life. I
think it could be much better. I have to charge the watch every day. I
tend to do this in the middle of the day, or early evening. This way I
can wear the watch to bed.

I use the watch to track my exercise. It's been very helpful for me in
this way. I also use it to help track my sleep. I've been diagnosed with
non-24. So knowing how much sleep I get, really helps. Even if it's more
of an estimate.

It took me a while to get used to the feeling of having a watch on my
arm. Also, it took me some getting used to the band. Eventually, I do
plan to purchase a different band. I think I finally found one I would
like more than the one that came with my watch.

Also, I recommend purchasing a good protective cover for your watch. I
have heard that the face can get scratched easily. I purchased a
protective cover for mine, as soon as I got it.

However, I purchased a cheap one, and it now has a couple of small
cracks along the edge. So I am in the process of replacing it.

I think you will really enjoy having a watch. Sometimes I find it easier
to check messages on my watch. As well as respond back to them. And when
I am by myself, I will take a call on the watch. It's nice to be hands-free.

I hope this helps you in making your decision. If you do decide to get a
watch, I really hope you enjoy it.

Wondering, is this problem my phone, or my provider

2020-10-26 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I have a rather anoying problem that happens pretty regularly. I would
really appreciate some opinions on it, if at all possible.

First of all, my service is with T-Mobile. I have had service with them
for about 3 years now. I like them pretty well. Although, I do wish my
bill were a bit cheaper. But for everything that I have, including an
Apple 5 series watch, I really can't complain.

However, my very anoying problem is this.

I live in a townhouse. So our 2 bedrooms are upstairs. Sometimes when up
here, I miss calls. I miss them completely. They don't register on my
phone, or my watch. I don't know that I've even missed a call, unless
all of a sudden I realize I have a voicemail.

Now, downstairs, in our living room where the router is, we have a
T-Mobile tower. Maybe that's not the proper name for it. I got it when I
first got T-Mobile, because in that apartment I had absolutely no signal
at all. This tower is newer. They just recently replaced it a few months
back, because the one I had just died one day.

If for some reason I am not connected up to the tower, downstairs I have
2 bars of cell signal. When connected, which is the majority of the
time, I have 4 bars. Also, when connected and upstairs, I have 3, to 4
bars. With my wireless internet, I have 2, to 3 bars. I don't know if
that matters or not. But I thought I would add this anyway.

I currently have the iPhone XR.

So why is this happening?

Is my signal somehow not good enough?

And is this my iPhone, or the tower?

Or may I not ever really know where the problem lies?

I can't stand having this problem. But I don't know if there's anything
I can do about it. I spend a lot of time upstairs, because the computer
room is up here. I don't have an option to move things around.
Otherwise, we would have wired connections up here.

Any help or suggestions is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Does anyone know?

2020-10-21 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, does anyone know if they make an Otterbox case for the
series 5 watch, for a 42 MM?

I would think that they would. But if they do, I can't seem to find one.
However, maybe a different sized model works with the 42 MM?

Any help is much appreciated.

Watch face has changed

2020-10-12 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

It seems as though my watch face has changed. I think I am stating this
correctly. I am still in the process of learning how my apple watch works.

But a couple of days ago I noticed things had changed. I didn't know if
part of this was due to the update, or not. Now on the screen it shows
my position on earth, the position of the sun, a different time zone,
the date, and a couple different other things. Before it just showed the
time, my rings, and a couple other things. I think it was something to
do with the weather.

Anyway, why did this change?

And how do I fix it?

What other options are available?

Any help is much appreciated. I understand my phone quite well. This
watch still manages to surprise me at times. But then again, I haven't
had it all that long, either.

Thank you,

Terri

Problem when answering calls while in other Apps

2020-10-07 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

First of all, if this has already been discussed, I do apologize for
bringing it up again. I don't read a lot of the mail that comes to the
list, due to the amount of mail I receive on a daily basis.

However, I have a problem I hope some of you might be able to help me
figure out. I recently updated to 14. Then when the smaller update was
released, I updated to that. I really haven't experienced too many
problems. I have noticed some sluggishness with Voiceover. But that's
been the biggest thing for me.

I've noticed that now when I get a call while within an App, the whole
screen is not taken up by the call screen. I've discovered how to answer
a call when this happens.

But my problem is this.

So when I want to end a call I did accept, how do I do this? Even though
I take the call, I still seem to be within the App I was in. Or I will
be on my homescreen.

The other day when I took a call, I happened to be texting. So then once
I was on my call, then I heard my text being read to me. That was
anoying, and distracting. It was difficult to hear the person on my call.

So how can I prevent something like this from happening again?

Is this even possible?

Rather than that, I am pretty happy with the latest update. Although, I
don't personally care for all the wigits. But that's just me, and for
another post.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Using the Kindle App on my iPhone

2020-09-25 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, how accessible is the Kindle App?

I want to use it on my iPhone. I have installed it, and tried it.
Although, I haven't messed with it much.

Can I only use whatever the current voiceover voice is set at? Or can I
somehow change the voice that reads within the App?

I would think not. But I thought I would ask anyway.

Also, while reading, is there a way I could lock the screen, and still
have it read?

Any help is much appreciated.

Beeping sound when swiping across screen

2020-09-22 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I haven't updated to the latest version of IOS. But I plan to do this soon.

However, a friend of mine has. He's dealing with something odd, and he
isn't sure why it's happening, or what to do about it. So I thought I
would ask here, and see if any of you have any thoughts.

He says that when he swipes across the screen, he hears a beeping sound.

What is this?

And is there a way to stop it?

This is all the information I have. So if you all need to know more,
please just let me know. I can ask my friend for more details.

Thank you, and help is much appreciated.

Working out with the Apple watch

2020-07-17 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I just have a quick question I am hoping someone can help me with.

I want to track my calories burned, and the distance, when I work out
with my Apple watch. I am using an exercise bike. I see in the work out
section, that there is an indoor cycling option.

Could I use this option too track these things?

If so, once I start a work out, how do I end it?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

correcting a text mesage on the watch

2020-07-09 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to correct a text message, when sending it from the watch?

If so, what would I need to do?

I like to read, and dictate texts from my watch. It seems easier to
dictate a text from the watch. I don't know how true this really is. But
it seems to work better for me, most of the time.

However, it does mess up at times. So this is why I was wondering if I
could possibly correct the messages. It sure would be nice to be able to
do this.

Thank you,

Terri

More Apple watch questions, yet again

2020-06-28 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I have a few more questions, regarding the Apple watch. I try to look
most things up, or find out on my own. But sometimes I read so much I
just feel a bit overwhelmed.

Ok first of all, if I were to accidentally leave my phone at home, when
I go out, can I still access the watch? Could I still respond to texts,
and make and answer a call?

Sometimes when I go out, I have a tendency to forget my phone. It
doesn't happen always. Which is good. But it would be nice to know that
I could still reach out, if I needed to do so.

Also, is there a way to get the now playing screen to stop coming up on
my watch?

When I play music over my iPhone, or something within Voicedream, this
screen keeps popping up.

Is there a way to stop this?

I think this is all for now. Again, any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: more Apple watch questions

2020-06-25 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello Simon and list,

Thank you for the information, and your thoughts on this. I appreciate it.

So does the watch protector you have, just protect around the sides of
your watch, and the very edges of the screen?

I am just trying to understand here.

Also, what happens if you do crack the screen of your watch?

Can those be repaired?

Thank you again for your thoughts, and help.

Hello everyone,

Thank you to both Wayne, and Siegard, for answering my questions. I really
appreciate it. It's very helpful to me, because it helps to have an answer to
look back at.

I am really enjoying my watch. Although, last night while I was out, it did
something odd. I couldn't figure out what it was. I wasn't even messing with
the watch. This weird message just came up on it's own. I'm not even quite sure
what it was saying. Something about quickboard, maybe? I honestly don't know.

But what I am wondering is, can I get a screen protector for my watch?

Do they work well?

And if they do exist, are there just 1 type available?

I mean, I don't really know how 1 screen protector could be much different from
another 1. But I just don't want to assume anything. I'd like to have a screen
protector though. I am concerned I might scratch up my watch. Or possibly hit
it on something.

Thank you,

Hello Terri. Sure, here's some answers. Crown up simply refers to
turning your hand so your wrist is facing up. The vibrations you are

you do a double tap on the watch, it will vibrate the whole time with
hours and minutes, and a triple tap will vibrate the minutes only. A
long vibration represents 10 and short vibrations are one. So the time

Finally, if the watch face does not appear, you can always press the

I got my watch

2020-06-23 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you to those of you who responded to my questions
about the Apple watch. I really appreciate the help and recommendations
that were offered.

Well, I got my watch. I received it yesterday. I got the 40 MM model.
It's the 5 gen. I really am enjoying figuring it out. I've been reading
stuff on Apple Vis, and listening to some podcasts. I've also just
messed with some stuff on my own, and have been doing some exploring.
I've still got a long way to go with it. But so far, I love it.

I do have a couple of questions though. I can probably find the answers
on my own.

However, I've been reading a lot.

First of all, how do I find out who is in my friends list?

From what I understand, it uses your first 12 favorites that are in
your iPhone. Although, I am pretty sure I don't have that many. I
thought that I just needed to press the button next to the crown.

However, I have pressed this button once, and then 2 times in a row. But
it never goes into a friends list. When I press it 2 times quickly, it
tells me that I can add a card for Apple pay.

What am I doing wrong?

Or is this different with the 5th gen?

I know that some people state that the content on Apple Vis is out of
date. Maybe so. I can't say for sure, because I don't know enough about
the Apple watch.

Also, sometimes when I am replying to a text, when I am done dictating,
I somehow end up out of the messaging App. This has happened a couple of
times. So it seems then that I then have to dictate the message again?

Why is this? And why might this sometimes happen.

Also, is there a way to increase the length of the time the watch stays
awake?

And last question.

Can I possibly change the ring tone, and the message tone? Or the voices
that are used?

Any help is very much appreciated. I hope to enjoy my watch for a rather
long time.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: How accessible is an Apple watch

2020-06-17 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

Thank you to those who have responded to my questions about the Apple
watch. I really appreciate it. For some reason, I wasn't expecting much
of a response. Or I thought you all would say it wasn't all that
accessible. I am glad I was wrong on this.

My main reasons for wanting to possibly get one, is so that I can track
my activities, and my sleep. I am wanting to start exercising a bit more
than I do. I think it would be very beneficial to me to possibly have a
watch.

Also, I don't always sleep well. So being able to track this better, and
easier, would really come in handy.

I almost always have my phone with me though. So I don't know if I can
justify making a purchase like this.

As for the sleep tracking, does the watch somehow do this on it's own?
Somehow keep up with your sleep?

Or do you just have an App on your watch and phone, and you have to
enter in all the information yourself.

Also, what are some of the ways the watch tracks your activity?

If I were riding an exercise bike, would it be able to possibly help me
to know how fast I was going, and how many calories I burned? Or would I
need an App to help me to do this?

Also, how do you all respond to notifications, and text messages?

How can it be easier to respond to texts messages from the watch? Or how
can it be easier to read notifications?

I would assume that the watch has to be charged every so often?

If so, how does this work?

Also, someone mentioned only having 2 faces.

What does this mean?

Why would you possibly want different faces?

Sorry for all of the questions. I know there are a lot here. I hope you
all won't mind. I am fascinated though, and would really love to know more.

Thank you,

Terri

Hi everyone,
Hope all of you are doing well. I too have the same questions as I do not own
an apple watch. However, I am looking into purchasing it in the future. I was
going to purchase one, but unfortunately, the pandemic hit so I am unable to
try one on for myself. Also, I have an added challenge because I have small
wrists since I am very petite. Does the Apple Watch fit small wrists?
Also, did you buy the EarPods when you got the Apple Watch in order to hear the
VoiceOver on the Apple Watch while in crowded settings?
How are you able to hear VoiceOver through the Apple Watch if you don’t own
EarPods in noisy environments?
Can the Apple Watch serve as a suplemental mobility aid for navigation in
addition to other tools like a cane or service dog?
What were the primary reasons for purchasing the Apple Watch?
For those of you who are totally blind, what are the most important uses for
your Apple Watch?

Hope this helps.
Stay safe and take care,

Priscilla

difference between apple care, and apple care plus

2020-06-14 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I didn't realize until yesterday that there is Apple care, and Apple
care plus. A friend pointed this out to me. We were talking about when
my Apple care was ending, and if I could somehow renew it.

So does anyone know what the differences are between Apple care, and
Apple care plus?

Also, I have T-mobile, I pay for Apple care through them.

However, it ends this coming December.

Can I renew it? Or is this not possible?

Thank you,

question regarding phone holders

2020-06-02 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I wasn't quite sure how to make the subject line. So it might be a bit
mis-leading. If so, I do apologize.

I have an iPhone XR. I love it.

However, it's a bit wide for my hand. So after about 20, to 30 minutes
of holding the phone in my hand, my hand starts to cramp. Or a few of my
fingers will fall asleep. It's rather anoying.

I have an ear piece. I do use it, when I remember to charge it. LOL!

But what I was wondering is, do they make something I could put on my
phone, to possibly make it more comfortable to hold?

I don't know if anything like this exists. But I just thought I would
reach out and see what people think. I don't have a thick case on my
phone. I can't think of the brand of the case at the moment. But I
purchased it at the T-Mobile store. It just goes on the back of my
phone. Then I have a screen protector on the front.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Keeping a recorded Imessage

2020-04-06 Thread Terri Stimmel

hello everyone,

I was wondering something.

When someone records you an iMessage, why can you sometimes keep them?

But then other times you can't? It's as though the option isn't even there.

Why might this happen?

Also, when you are able to keep them, where are they saved at?

I have been wanting to ask these questions for a while now. When I saw
someone else here asked about saving audio in a message, it reminded me
that I wanted to ask this.

Any help would be wonderful.

Thank you,

More Ring doorbell questions

2020-03-19 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you for all the help, regarding my ring doorbell
questions. I really appreciate the support. I have a few more questions,
and hope you all don't mind.

First of all, we got our Ring installed today. It went well. Although,
there was a delay in getting the package. But Amazon was great, and took
care of it right away.

First of all, does anyone know what Ring Chime pro is?

What might be the benefits of having this?

Also, has anyone else noticed that when you check the live feed, when
using your iPhone, that you can tend to lose speach?

Has anyone else noticed anything like this? I have had it happen to me a
couple times now.

Also, how do I add a shared user?

I'd like to add my boyfriend, as he lives with me. But when I tried to
do it, not all the buttons seemed labeled. Actually, I wasn't even sure
I saw all the buttons.

So has anyone else had experience adding a user? If so, how did you go
about it?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Ring Door Bell

2020-03-05 Thread Terri Stimmel

Re: Ring Door Bell
Hello everyone,

Thank you so much to Cristoble, Holly, and robin for offering their
knowledge regarding the ring doorbell and how it works. I really
appreciate it. I have
read all the responses from others who had some questions as well. I
didn't respond right away, because my boyfriend and I were getting
settled in to our

new place. It's certainly been an adventure.

We talked with our landlord and he doesn't have an issue at all with us
getting a ring. I was concerned about this, due to us renting. But he
even said

he would be glad to install it for us. So I am very grateful.

I plan to purchase the ring 2, sense I can get the rechargeable battery.
Also, while I will use the ring with my iPhone, I am very happy to know
that I
can use it with my echo dot as well. I was willing to purchase an echo
show if I needed to do so. But glad this isn't the case.

Thanks again for all the help, and thoughts. It's very appreciated.

The Ring doorbell Pro I got I bought back in 2017. It started to give me
problems after a year. Buffering, dropping etc. I just chalked it up to
the Ring
being a crappy product. I have an Eero mesh system and am on a 200 MB
plan so I knew it couldn’t be my WIFI.

It finally ended up dying on me last year (beyond the warranty).
TO my surprise, when I reached out to Ring, they replaced it after
confirming that the device died. I guess I must have gotten a new model
internals wise
because with this replacement, live streaming and everything else has
worked perfectly fine.
You can talk to whoever is at your door via the app and review your
history of alerts.
Something you may want to consider and if I had to do it over again, I'd
probably opt for the Nest Doorbell is that with the Nest, I believe
there's facial
recognition. I know there's a big uproar with privacy issues and big
brother and all, but being blind, being able to tag people I think would
be super
useful. Right now with the ring, it's just the motion sensor alert. In
my case, my wife is sighted so it's not really an issue, but if you're
by yourself
or don't have a pare of working eyeballs always available, this might be
something to give serious consideration to.

Hello everyone,

How accessible is it with an iPhone?

What are some things you like about it?

And what are some things you dislike about it?

Are you able to speak to the person at your door, without having to
actually open the door?

Also, is this system wired in to your home?

I am possibly considering getting this. But I want to learn more about

Bookshare books and Voicedream

2020-02-16 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I use Bookshare, as well as Voicedream. I really enjoy both of them a
lot. I will usually open Voicedream, go to Bookshare on there, as I have
the 2 linked.
Then I find a book I want and send it over so that I can then read it
with Voicedream.

However, I was wondering, if I do it this way, will the Bookshare
website still keep track of what I downloaded?

If so, could I then put these books somewhere on my computer?

I tend to like to keep the books I read. Especially if I really enjoy them.

Thank you,

Terri

Can I possibly use 2 different bluetooth headsets?

2020-02-16 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I have 2 bluetooth headsets that I really like. They are from a company
called Letscom. I purchased them from Amazon.

1 of them I have, I use specificly for my phone.

But I was wondering, if I needed to use the other pair with my phone,
could I?

They are the same brand. The 2 pairs were bought a few months apart from
each other.

But if I do end up using the 2nd pair with my phone, do I just have to
unpair the set I usually use?

I hope this makes some sense?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Looking at Marketplace with the Facebook App

2020-02-03 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

Does anyone here use Market place, with the Facebook App?

If so, how do you see the whole ad?

For instance, I am trying to look at housing rentals, on market place. I
can read the description, sort of. I start reading 1, and part-way
through it, there is a read more option.

However, this isn't a link. I can't seem to enter on it, and activate it.

Does anyone here know what I am talking about?

If so, is there a way to possibly get around this, so that I can view
the whole ad?

Thank you,

Terri

Eat this much App

2020-02-01 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I was wondering, has anyone here used the, Eat This Much App?
If so, do you have any tips for using it?

I installed it about a month ago, or so. I really like the concept of it.

However, I feel it could be more accessible. I have a difficult time figuring
out some of the buttons. Also, I can’t seem to figure out how to go from
setting what I ate for breakfast, to setting what I had for lunch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Questions regarding audio game hub 2

2020-01-06 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I just recently installed the Audio game hub, 2, App on my phone. I think I may
have installed it before, quite a while back. But back then I wasn’t as
interested in it as I am now.

Anyway, I have been attempting to play 2 different games I found there, memory,
and blocks. I enjoy them both.

However, I don’t really get how to see all of what is on the screen. Or maybe
it is the layout of the screen I am not getting? I am not exactly sure.

With the memory game, you start out with so many boxes. Lets say, 6. You have
to find the matching boxes, which contain animals.
However, I sometimes just can’t figure out how all the boxes are supposedly
layed out. It’s frustrating me.

Does anyone else use this App?
If so, what kind of luck have you had with the games?
I have read tutorials for both games. I understand how to play. I just don’t
understand how to see all the boxes, or get back and forth between them.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Odd problem between dropbox, my iPhone, and streaming

2019-12-26 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello Joshua and list,

I tried to listen to the file that I was having trouble with, using voice
dream. The file seemed just fine. It blade straight through, with no problems.
So thank you for recommending this. I do appreciate it.
I was wondering though, why would I want to zip a single MP3 file, when putting
it into dropbox? Is there a reason for this? Why couldn’t I just leave the MP3
as it is? I could see the reason to zip up a whole show.

Thanks again,

Terri

Hello Joshua,

Thank you for the response. I appreciate it.

However, I am curious about something. Why do you not recommend listening to
MP3 files, using Dropbox?
I do have voice dream. I love it. I use it to read audiobooks, and e-books, all
the time. I never thought about playing other files through that app. So this
could be interesting.

Thanks again,

Odd problem between dropbox, my iPhone, and streaming

Hello everyone,

I have an odd problem that I am hoping someone might be able to help me with. I
don’t know where exactly this problem lies. So I am not quite sure if this is
the right place to ask this question. So I have actually asked this on another
list I am on, as well.

Anyway, about a week and a half ago or so, I was listening to a file on my
phone, through Dropbox. I do this a lot. I put stuff in to a Dropbox folder,
than just play the file whenever I want to. I don’t know if this would be
considered streaming, or not.

Well, I have been catching up with the show, Chicago Med. The files are mp3
files.

So about a week and a half ago, while watching an episode, it all of a sudden
stopped playing. I went to the play/pause button, and attempted to restart it.
I did get it to restart. But not a minute later, it happened again. I didn’t
really have this happen again. So I didn’t think much of it.
At the time this started, we were using Spectrum as our ISP. But now we have
AT fiber. I don’t know if this makes a difference or not. But I thought I
would mention it.

Well, over the week I continued to watch episodes of the show. Everything
seemed fine.

Then 2 nights ago, this all started again. I had problems getting the episode
to restart. I even tried closing out the Dropbox App, and restarting it. But
nothing I do seems to make much of a difference. Also, it doesn’t seem to
matter if the screen is locked or not. I usually keep the screen locked once I
get an episode started. Now a couple of times, when I would unlock the screen,
after the episode had stopped, it would continue to play on it’s own. But this
is not always the case.

I have a 10 X. It is up to date. Dropbox is up to date as well.

What could possibly be going on?
Could this have to do something with my phone and Dropbox?
I would figure it isn’t my ISP, sense this happened while using Spectrum. At
the time both these events have happened, it was in the middle of the night, or
early morning. There wasn’t any other streaming, or downloading going on.

Any help or thoughts would be very much appreciated. I just can’t figure this
out. I don’t know how to fix it if possible. It is definitely rather annoying.

Thank you,

Terri

Interesting situation with Facebook, when joining a group

2019-12-11 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

recently, I have joined 2 new Facebook groups. I have discovered that
once I am approved to the groups, that I can not seem to post. At least,
not from the Facebook App. I have looked and looked at the group. But I
can't find an area to make my posting.

However, if I use my laptop, go to Facebook, then the new group, I can
then post. Once this is done, I can then post from my phone just fine.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

If so, what could be going on?

And is there possibly anything I can do about it?

Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated. I don't tend to join
many groups. But I find this both interesting and frustrating. I usually
just use Facebook on my iPhone. I prefer it this way. For me, it is much
easier to manage.

Thank you,

Terri

Water Minder App

2019-11-30 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I was wondering, does anyone here know if the water minder App is
accessible?

If so, about how accessible might it be?

I believe you have to purchase this App. I want it. But I don't want to
purchase it, if it is not accessible. I did look on Apple Vis to see if
it had been reviewed. I couldn't find it there.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Games for the iPhone

2019-10-28 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I know this has been discussed before.

However, I was wondering, are there newer games for the iPhone?

Which ones do you all find, most accessible?

And what are some of your favorites?

Which ones are available free, or possibly as a trial?

I enjoy all sorts of games. I play Dice World all the time. I have Game
World on my phone. But I don't tend to use this 1 as much. I do also
have a few of the Blindfold games. 1 I really like, Color Crush. I
purchased it. I enjoy a couple of their other games as well. But I think
the purchase price for the games are a bit too high.

I would love to find some accessible card games. As well as word games.
Maybe other dice games, trivia type games, and just anything else that
could possibly be interesting.

What do you all think?

Also, I was curious about Trivia Crack.

How accessible is this? And if I were to get it, do I want the original,
or Trivia Crack 2?

Thank you for any help, or thoughts and suggestions.

Questions regarding connecting a headset

2019-10-26 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I just recently purchased a bluetooth headset. It is an over the ear set, made
by a company called, Letscom. I really like them, and am glad I purchased them.
However, I have noticed that when I use them, the voiceover sounds quiet. I
turned up the volume, using the buttons.

Is this the way I should go about it?
Or should I use the volume buttons on the headset itself?

Also I have noticed that once I go back to using the phone without the headset,
that my sound volume is lower. For instance, my messaging sounds are lower. And
when I look at the sound settings, I have to turn the volume back up.

What might be causing this?
And is it normal?

Thank you,

Terri

Voicedream reader, and folders

2019-10-22 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I have a quick question about VoiceDream reader, and folders.

First of all, I use this App all the time, and love it! I use it a lot
for importing my audiobooks from Dropbox, in to the App. This way if the
files are not unzipped, I can still enjoy them.

However, a lot of my files are unzipped. Some are even in folders. I've
noticed twice now when I have imported a file, that I have had problems.
I kept getting a folder empty message.

So I ended up uploading all 8 files of the book, individually. Then I
created a folder within Voicedream. I can see all the files, but they
are all listed with my other files. I can't seem to see the folder I
created. And even though I sent the files to the folder, I can't seem to
figure out if they are in there.

Have I possibly done something wrong?

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Also, if I have files in a folder, will they play 1 right after the other?

Any help would be wonderful!

Thank you,

Terri

would use Voice Dream Scanner to recognize the document.
I've not tried to open a PDF from the web directly with Voice Dream Scanner

strange problem within a couple of Apps, phone reads by itself

2019-10-03 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I don't exactly know how to explain an odd problem that I have now
encountered twice.

However, I am hoping that with the bit of information I can give,
someone might know what I am talking about.

Alright, a few days ago I was on Facebook. I clicked on a video posted
by the TV show, This Is Us. Before I even got the video playing, the
text that was on the screen, started reading by itself. I was not even
trying to read through it. The phone seemed to stutter, and would repeat
text, cut off, and even start over. I didn't know what to make of it. I
thought that maybe it was some odd way the layout was set up. So I just
closed it out.

But then again, on the next day, I went in to 1 of my local TV station
Apps, to read a news story. The same sort of thing happened. I clicked
on the story. Before I could even scroll through it on my own, the phone
attempted to try to read it on it's own. Again, it stuttered badly. It
kept starting over, or breaking up. It was so odd! But it was also so
bad that I couldn't read the article.

What could be causing this?

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

The even bigger question is, can I do anythough about it.

Any help would be so very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Problem when on a call

2019-09-30 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I have a problem happening, when on a call. I do not know if I can do
anything about it. But I am curious to know if anyone else is dealing
with this.

I just recently updated my 10 XR, to the latest version. While I have
had some small bugs here and there, it's all gone rather smoothly for me.

However, if I am on a call, and I receive another call, I am no longer
being alerted to who is calling.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Is there anything I could do to correct this issue?

I went and made sure that my caller ID setting was still set on always.
And I also checked 1 other thing. But at the moment, I can't remember
what it was. Everything was still set the same. So I don't understand
what is going on.

Is this just a bug I will have to put up with for a while?

Thank you in advance for any thoughts or advice.

Battery issues after updating to 13

2019-09-25 Thread Terri Stimmel
hello everyone,

Recently I updated my iPhone 10, Xr two version 13. Everything went well. I
don’t really seem to have any problems.

However, the biggest thing I have noticed is that my battery seems to drain
faster. I have always been impressed with the battery life of this phone. But
since I have done the update, my battery just doesn’t seem to hold up as well
as it used to do. I don’t know why this is.
Has anyone else noticed problems like this?

As far as I know, nothing has changed with my settings. I do have it on dark
mode. I don’t have my phone set to automatically lock, because I am picking it
up so often. I do lock it when I am not using it. But I have always had it set
this way. So this isn’t a new thing. I believe I do have background app refresh
on. But again, I have always had this on. So I am not sure what’s going on.
This is rather frustrating for me.

Usually, I pick up my phone several times throughout the day, and depending on
what I am doing of course, by the end of the day without a charge, my phone
might get down to about 60%. But in the last couple of days, without it having
a charge throughout the day, my phone has gotten under 60%, by the end of the
day. Maybe this isn’t as bad of a problem as I think it is. But it definitely
seems different to me. And I don’t like it.

What do you all think? Is anyone noticing anything similar?

Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated. I want my battery to last me a long
time if possible, and to work well for me. I depend on my phone pretty much all
the time. So I need it to hold up.

Thank you,

Terri

Questions regarding the slide to type feature

2019-09-24 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I just recently updated my phone. I haven't really discovered any
problems, for myself. Maybe a few little odd things, here and there.

However, I am very interested to learn more about this new slide to type
feature.

I was wondering, does this only work if you are using anything but the
standard way of typing?

If it does work with the standard way of typing, what do I need to do,
in order to try it out?

I can slide my finger around the keyboard. But if I hold my finger on a
letter, nothing happens. So I am guessing that this only works with the
touch typing. The slide to type is on, I checked.

Any thoughts on this are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Reading Epub books using VoiceDream

2019-09-03 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I am attempting to read my first Ebook with VoiceDream. I use VoiceDream
all the time for audiobooks. So this I feel I am pretty familiar with.

However, I know nothing about how to read an Ebook. I did choose a
voice, and have it set as my preferred voice.

My only real question at the moment is this.

When I look at my Ebook, it starts reading a few sentences for each chapter.

Is there a way to make the program start at a certain chapter, or the
prologue of the book?

If so, how the heck do I go about doing this?

Also, what are some advantages for making bookmarks?

I don't even do this with my audiobooks, because I just select play and
the books start where I left off. So I haven't ever really seen the need.

Any help is appreciated. I am looking forward to really giving this a
go. Although, it will definitely take some getting used to, as I really
love audiobooks.

Thank you,

Terri

My iPhone and streaming to my Fire TV

2019-08-08 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I am needing some help. I have a question I hope someone might have an
answer to.

I just recently got a Fire TV. I love it!

Anyway, I want to be able to stream audio from my phone, to the Fire TV.
I usually put audio described files in to Dropbox, and stream them using
my bluetooth speaker.

So is what I would like to do, even possible?

Can I somehow use the bluetooth from my phone, to connect to the Fire TV?

Or could I possibly use the Fire TV to connect to my iPhone?

Or would I have to do this some different way entirely?

Any thoughts or suggestions are very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

accessible, compact exercise equipment

2019-07-22 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I was wondering, is there any sort of accessible, compact exercise
equipment out there? Something that on't take up too much room, as I
have limited space. Also, something not too expensive. Maybe not anymore
than $200, maybe, $250?

I am particularly interested in finding an accessible elliptical machine.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Questions regarding voice dream reader, and a new problem.

2019-07-08 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello Richard, and list,

Thank you for your help. I do appreciate it.

I did look at the book. It is 1 file. I played it for about 5 minutes,
on my laptop. I did not hear the noise then. So I don't have a clue as
to what could be going on. I think I will test for a longer period with
another book.

Thank you again for attempting to help me.

Re: Questions regarding voice dream reader, and a new problem.

2019-07-08 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

Thank you for the responses. I really appreciate it.

Alright, first of all, this is a sound I haven't ever heard before. I
seem to only hear it within this audiobook.

However, I haven't listened to another audiobook to really check things
out. But this is not the first audiobook I have read using VoiceDream.

when I go to read, I mute my phone so that I don't receive notification
sounds. I also lock the screen.

richard, I am not sure if this book is in multiple files. I will need to
check, in order to know for sure. I am pretty sure that it isn't though.

But with this said, I can not find those settings you mentioned at all.
I opened the book, and I did find audio settings. But nothing about
advanced settings. Just an area to adjust the reading speed.

Am I possibly in the wrong area?

Thank you,

Terri

Questions regarding voice dream reader, and a new problem.

2019-07-08 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

Are use voice dream reader all the time, to read audiobooks, and to view other
files. Eventually, I plan to try to read PDF files, or EPUB files. But I don’t
know when I might start doing this. Anyway, I have noticed an odd problem with
Voice Dream reader, in the last few days. I wanted to find out if anyone might
know what’s causing this. Or if anyone else has experienced it. For instance,
when I start reading one of my audiobooks, I start getting these chiming sounds
throughout my reading. The file plays fine. There does not seem to be any other
problems that I can tell.
However, the chime is usually a single chime, and can be infrequent. It can
vary in how often it happens. The chime does change every once in a while.
Sometimes a double chime will play, almost sounding like a doorbell.

So I was wondering, is anyone else experiencing anything like this?
Why might this be happening? And what can I do about it?

It’s rather annoying, and if I can stop it from happening I would like to do so.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri
