I’m looking for something that would be useful on say a 100 or 200 mile hike in the woods, say At trail. Either something GPS locations can be added to or if possible even have it follow us on a map to indicate if we are on the trail. I’m new at this so not sure what is the most helpful.

For non-established trails, are you looking for bread crumb navigation? Prominent survival bloggers have evaluated iPhones and $500 Garman navigation devices in places without cell signals and found both offer the same level of accuracy. Realize though, calling the iPhone’s navigation capability
