Re: Exploring a future destination
In Norway i experienced the same thing. «Drive north, west», but you get the turn by turn, but not always accurate enough. I may be 30m to the turn. And it will not be updated as you get closer to the turn. That is irritating. I like to walk with the phone in my hand. I am able to use my thumb to press on the top of the Google Maps screen and get the turn by turn announced again as often i press the top of the Google Maps screen. Together with Blind Squares «mine position» it works. Thanks for Blind Square. Soon i will try only Google Maps. At the same time have Blind Square running in the background not using Google Maps, just its own tracking. If memory serves, Blind Square is not using the map Google Maps but an other map provider. Blind Square only loads the turn by turn function in Google Maps. Unfortunately with the built-in voice guidance, you are getting all it's going to give you. It's generally up to us, the users, to figure out that when it says to turn left at a certain street in 100 feet, where to turn left. If we get it wrong, the app updates or we turn around. Traci, I use Google Maps all of the time on both short and long trips with great success. What do you like best about Google Maps? I like that all of the information I want is so readily available on one screen and all I need to do is touch where it is. You only need to hit the button called «tracking» left bottom corner three times if it is off. When Voice Over says «tracking with direction» it will announce streets live as you walk. Take notice, Apple Maps sucks current out of iPhone like no other app. As much as light on 100% do. I'd like to ask - adding to this great discussion - whether there is an maps app that would allow one to become somewhat familiar with a new country or destination. I'm thinking of visiting Cyprus, and I'm wondering whether there is a map app that would allow me to get familiar with the country and more importantly with the particular town close to which I'm going to be staying. Thanks for any tips. Andrew On 16 Jun 2014, at 20:52, Donna merma...@bellsouth.net wrote: May I ask where you are going for your getaway? We just returned home from Black Hawk, Colorado. Yes, this is correct. There are several nice fields one can leave focus on depending on the information one prefers VO to speak automatically. Besides the nearest address, when running a route, one can leave focus on remaining distance to next turn, remaining time to next turn (calculated based on current speed), remaining time for route, estimated completion time, and next turn. I would suggest the app places around. I have used this app on many ocassions to find restruants, shopping, parks, museums etc before our vacations. The app is fully accessible and POI's are seperated into categories for ease of searching. We are driving there. I haven't been to Grand Cooley since I was a kid. :) I use to use around me, but the difference between the 2 apps seems to be, I can search around an area without actually being there. I don't think around me does that. I found it funny and interesting that with places around, I could even search a town in England.
