RE: Fwd: [New post] 'Shockingly bad' Google Android 5.0 Lollipop update bricks phones, tablets; kills apps

2014-11-21 Thread Debbie Palmer
Hi
I'm an android user and I am totally blind and I, not being a particularly
tetchy person don't have any problems at all using the android platform. I
think the problem is that a lot of Apple users who look at the android
platform think it should work in the same way but its completely different.
The thing is that there's a choice out there and those of us who choose the
android platform shouldn't be slagged off so lets just accept that there are
two very stable platforms out there and accept it.

Debbie

I have never found that the Droid system has been easy to use from
playing with my brother's phone. In fact, I have found it to be clumbsy
and awkward to navigate. Having stated that, I've not really learned how
to use it either and am just starting to do some homework on it now. I
am hoping that things improve before the time comes for me to decide. I
think the problem here is that Apple had raised the bar so high that we
are all upset and disappointed when things fall apart, as we should be.
And yes, I still think Steve J is a huge loss and even if the system was
not good to start with, it became far superior to anything out there on
his watch. In fact, my very first computer that I could use with good
functionality way back in the early 80's was the Apple IIe or IIc, can't
remember which. That was before MS really had much out there that was
accessible and if IBM did, it was very costly. So I think the apple
founders truly did have accessibility as a priority from the start. I do
think that one person can make a big difference in what a company does,
its policies and its priorities, especially if the person happen to be
in Mr. J's position. That's my take on the Steve J issue, a huge loss
and too young. This new person in charge needs to step up to the plate,
fix what is broken and quit tinkering with that stupid watch.

Hi Mary Anne,

I would almost bet that this stupid watch as you called it was already
discussed when Steve Jobbs was still around. Anyhow, companies like Apple do
have to make products people want and wearable computers is going to be a big
market. We have the technology to put a lot of computing power into very small
devices so now that companies are coming up with good user interfaces to
harness that power, wearable devices are a logical progression.

Sieghard

Re: Fwd: [New post] ‘Shockingly bad’ Google Android 5.0 Lollipop update bricks phones, tablets; kills apps

2014-11-20 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm pretty sure the Apple II was accessible because a few 3rd party
applications were developed for the Apple II making it accessible. I
don't think it was accessible out of the box. I know you needed the
Outspoken screen reader from Berkley Systems to make the early Macs
accessible, and there was a time between the demise of Berkley Systems
and Apple's development of VoiceOver when the Macs weren't accessible at
all. Of course, the early iPods and the first iPhones weren't
accessible. I'm not taking anything away from Apple and it's commitment
to accessibility, but I don't think it goes back to the founding of the
company. If anything it's commitment to accessibility after already
having established and successful products out there is even more
impressive.

Android does take some getting used to, but so does the iPhone. I'm not
going to say that Android accessibility is on par with the iPhone, but
the Samsung Galaxy S5 does a pretty good job. I don't think I'm in
danger of giving up my iPhone any time soon, but I do think these
lingering IOS bugs do close the gap a bit. I mean if Android had the
same bugs I'm seeing in IOS 8 then iPhone user's would be holding them
up as reasons why iPhone accessibility is better.
