I am no longer an active member of Learning Ally, but I have books that I downloaded while my membership was active, but this new app want let me authorize it because my membership is not active. Thats just wrong! I dont want to download new books, just read the ones I have. I dont want to pay $99 right now, so I'll have to wait on the Bard App.
I'm sorry for complaining, just had to let it out.

Oh yes. It was a Windows based application. Haven't used in ages. I have
a Nokia phone with Talks screen reading program. It converts audio files
in to daisy with a utility called daisyFy.

I will appreciate a feedback if someone tries a zipped version of a
bunch of mp3 files with Learning Ally app.

Thanks. I found one called Obi. Is this the Windows app you are referring
to?

I understand that there has to be some daisy structure to make them look
like book. In my understanding as long as they are daisy audio and not
DRM
protected you should be able to play them.
Do you know there is a free Daisy book creator available online. Just
google
for it. All you need to do is put your mp3 files in a folder and
select all
those files. When you right click one of the options will be to make
daisy
books. I am not sure if it will work but I don't see any reason why it
will
not.

Ester,

Do you know if there's any way to get the Learning Ally app to recognize
books in a standard non-drm mp3 format? I know their info says only
their
Daisy books are supported but I'm curious if a zip file of mp3s
transferred
via iTunes might work. Thanks.

Rick

Hi Danny,

If Canadians can become members of Learning Ally, then I would lobby
them
to
give you access to DAISY books through this app, and apply some kind of
filtering to the available titles based on your login. I think that's
the
way it works with Read2Go and Bookshare. Anyone can get the app
(although
it costs $19.99). Any Bookshare member can use it to access their books.
And you can also use that app to read other books, although loading
non-Bookshare books into the app currently requires using iTunes file
sharing, and is rather painful. I have a long-standing request on the
Read2Go support page that they allow us to download from other sources
(like
a Dropbox account or a web link) and use the "open in" facility to get
other
books into this app.

Cheers,

Esther

Esther,

Thanks for the reply. Other people can correct me, I believe Canadian
can also become member, but we don't have full accessed to all the
titles like US members.

Hi Danny,

The Learning Ally Audio app requires you to have a current membership
to use the app, and as far as I know, these memberships are only good
for residents of the U.S. So this app is only available in the U.S.
App Store. I posted a comment about this at the AppleVis web site. I
din't know that this was a permanent price drop, so thanks to Paul for
this information. And to supplement Laura Ann's announcement
information, here's the link to the Learning Ally Audio app in the U.S.
iTunes App Store:
. Learning Ally Audio by Learning Ally (now free, used to be $19.99;
requires a current Learning Ally membership to use)
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/learning-ally-audio/id418888450?mt=8

When you launch the app, you'll be prompted for your Learning Ally
login, or else taken to a web site with information on how to join
($99.99/year).

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
