Re: My First 48 Hours with the RII Mini Bluetooth Keyboard

2014-08-13 Thread RobH.
I had one for a while, and had the issue a little too.

I wonder if you can change the repeat rate and whether that is, or could be
the issue, having finger on that bit too long. Some things can be quite
sensitive like that.

Subject: My First 48 Hours with the RII Mini Bluetooth Keyboard

Hello Everyone,

You know, it's only after having the RII mini Bluetooth keyboard for the
past 48 hours or so that I began to realize how much I have missed having a
mobile hardware keyboard with which to compose SMS messages while on the
move in areas where voice dictation is not an option.

Today, I was in a vehicle, in stop-and-go traffic when I needed to reply to
a text message. It was nice not having my typing accuracy severely
diminished by the varying speeds of the car, as would be the case when
entering text via the on-screen keyboard.

Of course, I do have a Braille display/keyboard but (1) the model I have,
while portable, does require significantly more space and (2) it is so
expensive, I hate taking it out and about the city unless absolutely
necessary.

Earlier today I stopped by one of those cell phone case kiosk that one can
find in shopping malls, and purchased a folio style iPhone case for the RII
mini Bluetooth keyboard. I think I paid about $12. Just a little
protection for the keyboard and I find that it makes the keyboard even more
convenient and comfortable to hold while typing--especially when I'm
walking.

This is the fourth Bluetooth keyboard I've purchased for use with my iPHone
but the first and only one that is hitting on all cylinders, so to speak
(smile).

I've had similar issues and believe that iOS is more at fault then the
keyboard hardware. I used an Android phone for about a month with the same
mini keyboard I had on iOS and had a lot fewer issues with repeating keys.

Re: My First 48 Hours with the RII Mini Bluetooth Keyboard

2014-08-11 Thread Krister Ekstrom
I wonder if this RII mini keyboard supports swedish keyboard layout since it is
different from the american/english one? Does the documentation or web site if
any say anything about that? It could be interesting to know although i'm
actually against using keyboards other than the on-screen one, it's yet another
clumsy device to carry with me. At least my policy is to thoroughly learn and
use the on-screen keyboard before getting an external one, otherwise you risk
to get smoked so to speak if the battery of the keyboard runs out in the middle
of nowhere. Anyways this is beside the point.

2014-08-11 Thread Flor Lynch

Hi,
You might like to try Fleksy VO (the VO being for voiceOver), free, from
the App Store. It mimics most of the keys of a QWERTY keyboard on the
phone screen, and produces click sounds in responds to key presses. then
there are More... tabs, with Numbers, letters, Symbols, etc. it's fast.
Also has a dictionary or 'predictive text' type feature.

RE: My First 48 Hours with the RII Mini Bluetooth Keyboard

2014-08-11 Thread SSEric
I have not seen this, but I would suggest you check out the Braille Pen
Slim. This is a Braille keys keyboard.

I have been using the BP12 recently, and while the display is smaller than I
want, it has been a delight using the Braille for input. I am a very
proficient typist and had been very good Braillist, too, but not used
Braille over the past 25 years or so; not much, anyway. It was like riding a
bicycle. I think I picked up the keyboard much faster than reading.

I imagine this BP Slim is smaller than any QWERTY keyboard. It is a bit
pricy at around $400, but I do suggest it as a strong alternative for those
looking for an external input device.
